I’ve been going to Ray’s Barber Shop since I moved to Inwood. It is fantastic, real old school NYC feel. Always a good cut, any style. I highly recommend them!

The reviews all get it right. I’ve tried about half a dozen barber shops in the city, none awful but none all that great either, before coming to Ray’s. It’s the only barber shop I’ve come to and gotten exactly what I wanted from three different barbers. I usually dread getting haircuts but Ray’s is a really relaxed, chill place to be. Haircuts run around $ 17 plus tip and whatever other stuff you get done. Highly recommended.

I really love how Ray Jr. runs this barber shop. After a few haircuts over last year and this year, I feel comfortable with Ray, Chris or any other the regular barbers to cut my hair. Now, the only trick with this place is timing because people are always popping in. If Ray’s Sr, Ray’s father, is cutting hair, there will definitely be a lot of regulars in line. I try to come early or avoid peak times which would be later on weekends or Tuesdays when they reopen after being closed normally on Sunday and Monday. Even if you have to wait, I have found the customers are pretty relaxed and do not mind to chat as you wait. Definitely coming back. Thank you Ray for running a solid local business and always being welcoming to all your customers.

Got a great haircut from Chris two days ago. I recently moved and was worried I wouldn’t find a good barber and if I did it would be inconvenient to get to. This barbershop is right and around the corner from me and has a classy setup. Barbers are friendly and you’ll leave feeling like a new man. Thanks guys.

My husband has been going here for years and always gets a great cut. I’ve had two wonderful haircuts here since I moved uptown. As a woman who has short hair and prefers a barber style crop, I really appreciate a good barber who doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable in a barbershop. Bravo!

Good haircuts that come from a staff who are friendly and the store is conveniently located in central Inwood. What else could you ask for in a local barber shop?

I got a shave here. It was excellent. I’ve been shaving for a long time, and tend to grow a pretty hefty beard. I’ve never been able to shave close enough(or get a shave at any barber shop, for that matter) such that I wouldn’t have stubble the next day. Today, it’s day two. No stubble. They don’t joke around with giving you a great deal here in terms of cost, and it’s clear that they treat their customers well and nicely, not so they can get a tip, but because they clearly love what they do and they’re genuinely interest when they ask you things. Sure, one is never sure if the person cutting the hairs is going to be an absolute bore, or if they’re going to be awkward when you’re having a bad day — but I assure you, it’s not at all like that at Ray’s. I was having a bad day, and they were great. Dare I say, I felt cared about in this barber shop. I’ll definitely be coming back here for monthly shaves, at least.

Nice place — just had my first Inwood haircut there by Sean. Very personable and an excellent haircut at a ridiculously low uptown rate — tip big and be grateful!

Is my first time at this barbershop and not my last, the barber(Sean) who took care of me was very professional and has great skills when it comes to handle all kinds of scissors. Also, as soon as I walked in Ray Jr. greeted me and immediately Sean offered to take care of my haircut. Great environment, good price for a cut($ 15.00) and they also accept credit cards. Thanks for the great service and please keep it up!

Ray’s is simply a great business with experienced barbers and a friendly atmosphere. You are treated well and get a great haircut at a very reasonable price. I go there every three weeks and will go as long as they are open for business. Now that I recently moved out of the city 45 minutes away, I always make sure I stop in for a fresh cut whenever I’m planning a trip into NYC. Old school place but with a modern twist, they know both traditional and trendy haircuts. Father and son run, they’ve been in the neighborhood for years and kill it every time.

I’ve been getting my haircuts at Ray’s since I moved to Inwood 3 years ago. Ray and the staff do an excellent job not only with haircuts and shaves but also just being personable and friendly. This is a true Inwood establishment that prides itself in customer service. I highly recommend this barber shop, no one else in the area can compare!

This is my go-to barber shop. Friendly and quick service at a great price. It’s a no frills shop, but it’s got everything to get the job done and it feels like a true neighborhood place when you step inside. I’d recommend it to any guy who needs a cut and/or a shave.

Place is great — good service, good prices, good vibe. Solid barber shops are few and far between these days, and this place exceeds expectations.

Love this shop. After doing some research for my fiancé’s long«surfer dude» hair, I found some one who could cut his hair. He was given a modern cut and if I could give this shop more stars I would. Chris is an awesome barber. He’s very friendly and he knows what he’s doing!!! He pays attention to detail and gives you what you want. Definitely go with Chris. Again, love this shop. Finally found a great barber for my fiancé. I recommend this shop to anyone and everyone. My brother really likes what was done to my fiancé’s hair. He will also be visiting. Thanks Chris.

I get my hair cut every 2 – 3 weeks, so a barbershop is a key part of my routine. I started going to Ray’s in 2009 but had to stop when I moved to another borough. Last year, I moved back to Inwood and am thrilled to have this spot back in my life. The shop is an awesome mix of old school and new. It’s got the relaxed, neighborhood feel of your grandfather’s barbershop but with a modern touch(and style). Ray knows his customers and what they like. Guys of all ages are regulars here — it’s pretty impressive. This place is all about cool and classic men’s haircuts with top-notch customer service. I have never had a rushed haircut here, ever. I’m loyal to quality. This place is quality. Thank you, Ray!

Got an amazing haircut and beard trim for $ 22 bucks. Chris was great gave me a couple styles on how to style and maintain the style. Thanks will definitely be going back.

I have been a customer of Ray’s for the past 7 years. It exemplifies the best of what a local family business can be. When I go there, I am known, greeted with a smile, and treated like an old friend. They have often gone the extra mile for me and stayed open past closing so I could get my hair or beard done. And the prices are truly fantastic – $ 15 for a hair cut, $ 7 for a beard trim. I feel good when I go there because I know I will look terrific when I walk out and my hard-earned money will go towards supporting my community – Ray Jr. and his team of barbers all live in Inwood. A year ago, Ray Sr. handed the reins of the shop over to his son Ray Jr. While I had always received excellent service under Ray Sr., I love how the shop has evolved under Ray Jr. He has hired new barbers who are young, highly skilled, and up-to-date with contemporary looks. They do excellent beard work – I go there every 7 – 10 days for a trim, and otherwise I don’t touch my beard. I love how low-maintenance they’ve made it for me. One more thing: while they look like an old-fashioned barber shop, they do not carry around old-fashioned prejudices. They are welcoming and respectful of gay and trans clientele. For great hair and beard work at a great price with friendly people, run, don’t walk, to Ray’s. It’s my favorite business in Inwood.

I’ve been searching for a reliable barber for over 3 years in the city, frequently ending up paying $ 50 for haircuts that were unfixable due to lack of skill. Ray’s, however, was EXCELLENT. For only $ 15, I got a haircut I loved, by a barber who clearly had skills(Chris), all located in my neighborhood. If you’re looking for a great haircut at an even better price, this is the place to be, hands down.
