Nice place, where we was enjoying our food. We got of course guacamole, which was delicious and two chicken burritos + 2 root beers. Check was around 60 $. But dinner was worth this money!

I’ve been going to Rocking Horse for a long time and have had several good meals. There is a new manager now who is very unprofessional, and that’s the primary reason for the 2-star review. He ignored me on arrival, didn’t say hello, was very abrupt and not at all welcoming. I thought it may have been me, but when the others in my party arrived they said the same thing — and our server(who was great) said we aren’t alone in this opinion. Also, evidently the manager has downsized all the drinks but not the prices. I would stay clear of Rocking Horse for awhile.

Rocking Horse is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. I’ve been there many times — with friends, on dates and in large groups — and each time the service has been excellent. I’m not a heavy red meat eater(having been a vegetarian for 7 years earlier in life), but the short rib is so good it has become my go-to dish. On the weekends the place is always quite lively, but never so loud as to impede conversation. Less known, but they also do brunch on Sundays — one of my favorite brunch spots in Chelsea also!

Stumbled across the rocking horse café while searching recs for somewhere to eat. So happy I did! While my friend with dietary/health restrictions had a hard time finding something on the menu he could eat(the server wasn’t too helpful for him either) I thoroughly enjoyed everything! The gauc and salsa to start were amazing and for some reason I opted for the veggie burrito and didn’t even regret it! It was delicious. We were coming back from an open bar event so we didn’t try any of the drinks but how can you go wrong with a classic margarita!!!

One of your bartenders charged my card and I left a cash tip. So you could imagine my surprise when I checked my statement to find that a ten dollar tip was added. Never going here again.

I had dinner here last night with a friend of mine. Of course the restaurant was a bit crowded on a Saturday night but we were happy to sit at the bar instead of waiting for a table. Resturant was clean, service was good and bartender was friendly. Tables come with massive unlimited quantities of tortilla chips. We ordered the fresh guacamole as an appetizer with comes with three sides of duck, corn and regular salsa with fresh made tortillas. Tortillas were freshly made. For dinner I got the chicken quesadillas and my friend got the steak quesadillas. Very filling and good quality. The dinner menu was pretty extensive but a little on the pricy side. I will definitely come back and I was very pleased with my experience.

I came here with a friend yesterday for lunch. The staff here are incredibly friendly. For the table, they have free chips and salsa. We ordered guacamole on the side and had with the chips. With the guac came a little small bowl of corn, a bowl of pork rinds, and a bowl of tomatoes. There was also tortilla. I had the soup and burrito lunch special. It was enough for me. My friend had the carnitas taco. They were very generous with the meat on the taco. I would come here again. The staff is nice, food is great and its near 14th st!

Why would you come to New York City to eat Tex Mex food? This was the question I asked myself as a large group suggested we go to Rocking Horse Café for brunch. Perhaps I am judging the restaurant too harshly, as a Texan. However, both the service and the food left much, MUCH to be desired. The salsa and tortilla chips while we waited on our order was a nice gesture, but the salsa is bland and watery. We all ordered off of an overpriced, prie fixe brunch menu. I ordered the huevos ahogado, which was basically a glorified poached egg. I did appreciate that it was organic, but honestly, it just tasted like your standard egg breakfast. Service was grumpy and slow in accommodating a large group of us. For a restaurant in the meatpacking district with dozens of higher quality restaurants around, Rocking Horse should step up its game SOON if it wants to stand a chance to competition.

I love this place. Here and Javelina are my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city right now but unlike Javelina you can get a table at Rocking Horse without a reservation. The chips and salsa they bring to the table is ridiculous. I could probably just sit there and get filled up eating delicious bowl after delicious bowl. It’s orangish. I don’t know how it’s orange; maybe they use some orange as a citrus but whatever they did… damn. I feel awkward focusing so much on something that you’re getting for free automatically. It’s not like you’re reading this and am like… hmm maybe I will get the chips and salsa. So this is usually where I tell you what dishes you can order and be sure to get something good but I’ve been here at least twice, split the dishes each time and have never been anything short of impressed. Croque Seor is a fried sandwich thing smothered in cheese. You probably can’t find any other links of people that reviewed it bc they called it a señor with or without the tilde. But I see what the online menu calls it and that’s how I roll. Panqueques are adorable little mini pancakes that are cornmeal based instead of flour so it has a natural sweetness Everyone does Huevos Rancheros for brunch and it’s totally unoriginal yet somehow I’m still glad my companion got it. What made the dish is the salsas roja & verde. This place spent some time perfecting their sauces and got ‘em perfect.

Cute little spot situated on a block in Chelsea with lots of restaurants to choose from. The staff is nice, décor nice, and vibe is vibrant. It’s a nice spot for lunch or happy hour, but nothing is truly memorable. The restaurant inside is pretty loud. Not somewhere for an intimate conversation, but a place to get a drink and listen to fun music. The menu is pretty standard for a Mexican cuisine. My recommendations: guacamole of course! The guacamole comes with chips and warm tortillas wrapped with three different types of dips to add to your guac. The quesadillas with hanger steak are served on a whole wheat wrap. They are super yummy and not greasy. For entrée we ordered the mahi tacos that were recommended. Unfortunately, they were just horrible. Mahi mahi was not fresh and had an extremely unpleasant after taste. They also overdid it on the lime. Go for a drink and some apps. The entrees are ehhh. Nice place to unwind with friends.

Rocking Horse has become one of my favorites. It also is a great place for gay men. My gay friend introduced me to the restaurant and I haven’t stopped coming since. It is in the heart of Chelsea next to plenty of other restaurants, but I always end up choosing Rocking Horse. I’ve been to Rocking Horse for brunch, lunch, and dinner. And I have not once been disappointed by the quality of service and food. They have outdoor seating right on Eighth Avenue. They have enough seating for approximately 4 – 5 couples outside. Cramped, but perfect for couples. The space is big. There is a long bar seating area, where lots of people come to mingle and grab drinks. It is a casual space. Jeans and tees are the perfect ensemble. If you are going for brunch around 12−3PM, expect to wait. But it is all worth the wait. Each table is immediately served with warm tortilla chips and a spicy tomato/queso dip. I love their hanger steak quesadilla, that they offer all day long. It’s not a big quesadilla, but it is two layers– each layer jam packed with steak cubes and wild mushroom. The corn tamales is also a small bite, but worth every bite. It’s served with big pieces of gulf shrimp and avocado pico de gallo. Their guacamole side comes with soft tortillas and 3 light tomato/slaw relishes. Their tacos are amazing. I highly recommend their pulled pork tacos. Hands down the most filling tacos that I’ve had to date, because they are not stingy with the amount of protein they put into it. Their drink menu is extensive as well. They have a full bar, but most patrons stick to their frozen sangaritas and margaritas.

Delicious & very authentic Mexican food. Loved the watermelon margarita! Guac comes with a mango salsa and pork rinds! Ordered the tacos de carnita, polenta, yuca with goat cheese & chicken in green sauce with tortillas. Service was excellent & food was on point!

This review is split… 3 stars for the food and general atmosphere, 5 Stars if you just want to get plastered drunk. This review is a long time coming, mainly because I left so drunk I didn’t remember the name of the establishment. This is in no way shape or form a complaint. However the reason I left as intoxicated as I did was because the food was GROSS and I couldn’t eat it. I absolutely LOVE mexican but this fusion of I don’t know what, and everything american’s think is latin food was terrible. So in lieu of food, I just kept drinking… Just keep drinking, Just keep drinking, just keep drinking, drinking, drinking *burp* #stayclassy

This place has such good tacos and chips & dip. The guacamole was so good and flavorful. They added the right amount of spices to the dip. They gave chips and a salsa dip. It was one of the best dips I had. I had the frozen sangria. It was perfect for a hot summer day. I would come back for the food and drinks.

After watching a Friday night play in Bryant Park, my sister and I decided we wanted tacos. We wanted to get away from the desert that is Midtown so we headed south and decided on the Rocking Horse. Although classified as Mexican, it is not your typical Mexican menu. My sister and I were already going out for drinks after so we stuck to food. Instead of entrees, we had a smattering of tapas. Their guacamole was outstanding and served with warm tortillas and these three relishes that added some crunch. We also had the tamal, the budin azteca, and the tacos dorado. Everything was fantastic and the portions were generous. Next time, I must try their cocktails as they looked divine on a muggy summer night.

Came here for a birthday and with a pretty large party of 18. The timing for big parties is limited and we were only allowed to begin at 930 which was a bit inconvenient cause who eats dinner at 930. But fine, the space isn’t the biggest so understandable. But because it was so late, by the time we had gotten there, many people weren’t hungry cause we all had snacked/meals before. All the meals that I sampled from my friend’s plates were all really good. I had the carnitas tacos which was also very good. They also give chips and dip and the dip was like crack. No idea what the dip was made from but I couldn’t stop eating it. The best part about this place was the service. All the servers were super attentive and very friendly. We had brought cake for the bday boy and cut it up for us and even sprinkles powdered sugar on it for us. Service was great and so was the food, what more can u ask for :)

Loved décor and loved ambiance. Perfect for a group. I went on a Tuesday night to catch up with friends, and was impressed instantly by how easygoing the staff was, and we were seated instantly. Bar area is large, providing homemade chips in a generous basket for anyone seated there. We sat towards the center and just ordered margaritas and guac. I fell in love with the salsa — it’s thicker than most, tasting almost like a creamy, spicy soup. Guacamole order came with tortillas and small bowls of pico de gallo and onions to make your own. I wasn’t too impressed by the size or quality of the guac — definitely expected more from how great the other aspects of the place seemed, but it didn’t phase me since everything else was so good. I ordered the classic frozen margarita, and my friend ordered the sangarita, which is just like a normal one but topped with frozen sangria. We were in heaven. It’s a large size(and VERY strong) for the price. All in all, very solid. I’d definitely go back for a full meal.

Food: 4 Stars Service: 4 Stars We were coming back from a long day and were interested in getting a late dinner. Since we both weren’t too hungry, the waiter recommended some of their tapas. Definitely a great choice. They brought out some complimentary nachos and salsa after we ordered which was super delicious. They were so fresh and warm! I ordered the Crepas de Pato and my girlfriend got the Quesadilla de Hongos. Both of us were really satisfied with the orders. Mine was basically two savory rolled up crepes with duck inside and bbq sauce. Really juicy and savory. Her Quesadillas were crispy and filled with vegetables. We didn’t know what to expect but were very happy with this experience!
