Came here to get lunch on the go Pros: — The Schaller Double w/o onion was amazing — a bit small but still great. The bun and how the sausage is cooked makes a huge difference(~$ 10) — The cucumber salad is a nice complimentary dish to the sausage Cons: — Place is small but there is a couple of bar stool seating

Came here with the husband to get a midday snack and was thoroughly satisfied with my Saigon Special. I have a distinct feeling that we’ll enjoy our experience a lot more when the weather warms up a bit(they have seating inside but the ordering process takes place outside) and I’m looking forward to trying some more of their specials!

Food is good, I’ve tried the Classic, Saigon Special, Schaller Double, and King Ludwig so far and the Classic and Schaller Double are definitely my favorite. Food is solid, but taking off one star for the price. Gotta admit $ 12 is a bit much for a hot dog, although I would come back occasionally.

whether these sausages are worth 3X the price of the Grey’s Papaya down the street is debatable… everything is prepared well, the toppings are nice, but I’m not sure if they do anything that justifies me not just buying a package of brats next door and cooking them myself at home and saving 20 bucks… if i was on the block and needed something quick i’d eat there again… but, if i’m gonna trek up to the UES specifically, I’d just as soon load up on sausages at Schaller and cook at home…

This place is historic. I’m so glad I saw this listed on Unilocal. I can’t wait to go to try a sausage sandwich. I’m so glad it is not just a take out window. I want to go sit down to get the full effect of the atmosphere! After I do, I’ll post an update with some pictures!

Welp, as someone who dropped by for a quick snack and ordered one brauenwurst and two thighs all i have to say is they are making me come back for more. I’m not a huge hotdog/sausage fan, i’m more of a burger guy truth be told, but that wurst was so clean tasting and the chicken was just the right amount of crispy and juicy and everything I wanted. Sausage/Meat People I salute you!

My German grandparents have been bringing me to Schaller since I was young and was very excited to hear they were opening this little food bar. This new spot is GREAT. I have been here twice and unfortunately got the same thing twice so I can’t offer much in terms of a varied review, but I will say what I got was great. I got the Schaller Double, but substituted in the knackwurst. It was great both times, although very messy for a place that doesn’t have a bathroom to wash your hands in afterwards, so be warned! The second time I decided to use a fork and a knife for that reason. We also got a side of the cucumber salad — super simple but SOGOOD. Have been getting this from Schaller since I was growing up and is a nice refreshing side to add to your meal. Be warned that the seating is limited and there are only high tops. Also was unfortunate that the second time I went they were playing music that sounded to me more just like screaming and it was EXTREMELY loud… might be nice of them to maybe play something that appeals to a bit more of a wider audience!

It could have been the beers I like at city swiggers, but the dog I had was just delicious, I had the saigon special which was a Bauernwurst, with daikon/carrot slaw, cukes, jalapeño, cilantro and sriracha aioli, I probably could have had three of them.

I love sausage and this is seriously delicious. Even the bread was well thought out Potato salad — simple and yummy — The Shaller Double was a great blend of many flavors as was the Berlin Wall — My favorite was the Stueben Rueben !!! PretZel is also real yummy normally I do not give 5 stars to places you have to order outside and then sit in — but for these yummies I am Willing to make a sacrifice ! They guys running the place were top notch !! Great job !!!

This is an idea too long in coming to fruition. Since the closure of Yorkville Packing some years ago, there was no place to grab a good wurst while doing your food shopping. This little nook next to Schaller and Weber changes that. Your order at a counter, and can take your wurst to the six or so high top counter seats. There’s also a low bench in front of the retail store. We had more eating to do, so we split a Berlin Wall, a ½ lb. kielbasi, bacon, cheese, bacon marmalade on a Balthazar bun. Scrumptious but $ 14. Smaller sausages are less, but still pricey in my opinion,. I was not blown away by the German pretzel, have had locally made ones that were better. It was small, not like the ones you get at Oktoberfest. I did enjoy the Austrian Almudler soda, which is a successful importation. Do visit the retail store afterwards. I’ve been going for years, but only tried the Irish bangers on this visit. They are excellent, a bit porkier than the real deal, with just a hit of the creaminess you expect.

Solid sausage, great condiments with lots of variety, and awesome perfectly toasted buns. I tried the Saigon and the currywurts. The Saigon is all about the condiments. The currywurts allows the sausage shine. Both great and satisfying. I think I’ll need two for a proper dinner but one is great for snack time. Cool atmosphere with bar seating setup. Not the kind of place you can go with a big group. It’s an eat and go kind of place. I have a feeling I’ll be back again soon. I need to try and order the sausage to go for next time.

I typically don’t like sausages and the bland hotdog bread it comes in… but I LOVETHISPLACE! They use a Balthazar flatbread/hotdog bun hybrid that is so insanely tasty. I would give 5 stars just for the bread. I don’t love that oily/fatty taste but Schaller makes the brats so well it taste sooooo flavorful and satisfying. The décor is super cute and the brats are sooo filling! The Berlin Wall: my boyfriend orderd this ½ pound of kielbasa + bacon jam+ cripsy bacon+ chicharones(fried pork) +melted cheese goodness *drool* We were sitting at the bar so we can see him make it. The cut open the ½ pound and toast each side with cheese. It was soo delicious I couldn’t stop stealing some of his(but thats what they are for right?). all the ingredients just melt together well. Saigon Special: banh mi inspired made with bauernwurst, daikon-carrot slaw, cucumber, jalapeño, cilantro & sriracha aioli. It was even better than some of the banh mi sandwhiches I’ve had. The spicy kick was on point. ** get the SECRETMENUITEM: The King of Siam: basically the saigon special with ½ pound brat. Thats what would have made my brat better.

King Ludwig + Bun for $ 9.80 was a really satisfying, quality sausage sandwich at this walk-up window next to the excellent Schaller & Weber. Friendly staff and a nice menu of options. FYI FYI2 FYI3

This is the new world order of sausage. I have to agree with every review below that states there is nothing else really like this in NYC and especially the Upper East Side. We are talking brats with amazing flavor, absolutely great soft pretzels, and this wild German soda you can’t get anywhere else. So, in short, I get why this place has 5 stars. I got a lot of stuff here. The best thing I had by far was The Schaller Double, which is a cheddar and bacon-topped sausage. From other reviews I kind of thought that the cheddar and bacon were inside the brat but they were actually on top, which was nice because the sausage has a consistency that complemented them. The second best thing I had was the soft pretzel. It is just an amazingly pillowy and delicious version of this bar snack and I strongly suggest you get one to go along with the Schaller Double. Third best was this crazy German soda the dude working here gave me for free because the chicken took a long time to come out. I have to say I have never tasted anything like this. It was just wild. See pic below. The fourth best thing was the Saigon Special which was really light and nicely spicy but just not as good as the double, and the worst thing by far was the fried chicken, which was pretty soggy and weird because it is reheated but still was moist and had perfectly cooked meat inside. So, yeah, pretty awesome stuff. Definitely give this place a try and then roll next door for some of the best baked goods in the entire country at Two Little Red Hens.

I can’t believe that they’re churning out all of these delicious sausage sandwiches(I find that calling them ‘hot dogs’ isn’t quite right) from such a small food stand. But here they are! There are also a few seats in the back for when you want to immediately scarf down your food. It’s located in a former meat locker, and is housed next to the Schaller + Weber butcher shop. They have custom sandwiches that use the best combinations of German sausages and sauces. Definitely try the Schaller Double: think bacon cheddar brat with an assortment of toppings and their special Stube sauce, a fancy Thousand Island-esque dressing. In addition, you can opt to customize your sandwich by picking the meat; an array of toppings including pickles, onions, cilantro, American cheese, and tomatoes; and different sauces. I customized my own, and it was delicious. They use sweet Balthazar buns, and the bratwursts have a little give and a crunch, with a juicy and flavorful center. Please also note that if you choose to get some cilantro, they place some underneath the sausages so that they’re included in each bite. The fried chicken thigh is good, but not as extraordinary as the sandwiches. Likelihood of another visit: Um, yes. Also, they’re located near Two Little Red Hens, so the area is a meal and dessert combo destination.

We found this place by accident. We were at the Guggenheim and took a walk over to Two Little Red Hens coffee shop. Next door is this cool, little shop. If you like wursts this is the place! We just ordered the basic wusrt as we were not that hungry and my daughter and I were sharing. Holy bratwusrt, I could have eaten 2 of these bad boys, they were that good! The bun was also excellent and toasted to perfection and not too thick. Shalller’s is just a street food small stall next to their butcher shop. There is not really anywhere to sit or tables. There is one bench. They have a few other brat options that I would like to try the next time. This place is awesome.

Here are the top 5 reasons I love Stube. 1. I developed a taste for cheddar brats and currywurst during a trip to Munich/Vienna a few years ago, and never could find a quick takeout spot in NYC to fill the void. This is particularly useful since Wechsler’s Currywurst in the East Village closed last December. 2. Stube is on my way home from the subway, on what is becoming one of the best blocks for food/drink on the Upper East Side(see also: Bondurants, Five Mile Stone, 2 Little Red Hens, and iconic Heidelberg). 3. NYC as a whole needs more current weeknight dinner takeout spots that aren’t $ 15. My cucumber salad + brat came out to a cool $ 10 and change. 4. I love that Stube celebrates the German heritage of 20th century Yorkville, instead of trying to latch on to trends. They modernized something of their own. 5. THEFOOD. The German cucumber salad was perfect, with equal parts sweetness and acidity, and the flavor of onion without the actual pieces of onion. The cheddar brat with Stube sauce is a winner too. You can mix and match your brat, sauces, and toppings, but I liked it simple. I also liked the buttery brioche Balthazar bun, which was flaky, but strong enough to hold the brat. I thought I would have wanted the squishy potato bun, but I have to say, this is reminiscent of pigs in a blanket, in the absolute best possible way.

Holy guacamole this place is good. I am not a hot dog type person, but now I’m a believer. This place has amazing food. Its a tiny little window that you can easily miss, there are a few stools in the back to sit and eat. The bread is from baltazar(holla!) and the hot dogs themselves are really really good, even for people like me who enjoy bland food… the toppings and different dogs all melted together for a really really good hot dog. There’s different options or you can build your own, everything ranges around $ 7. It’s super authentic and I would totally recommend as a quick lunch while drinking at the other nearby bars on a weekend. Also, the cashier was super helpful and knowledgeable!

Dude! Now I know were to bite into a tasty wiener in Yorkville! Terrific new little brat and sausage bar opened by Schaller & Weber — old school purveyors of scrumptious German deli meats and charcuterie! It’s their version of German street food with a NYC cool twist There is nothing else like this tiny spot on the Upper East Side. Open until 11pm on most nights. Grab and go, or chow down on your wiener in the small dining room area that is set up with a modern beer hall feel to it. Walk up to the sidewalk storefront window and gaze upon the selection of amazing meats to choose from. Bratwurst, Knackwurst, Weisswurst, Bacon Cheddar Brat, Kielbasa, Beef Weiners — OHMY!!! So much meat to shove in my face! It’s like a gangbang party in my mouth and I want them all in me! (Wait — did I just say that out loud?) All different kinds of toppings too — Sauerkraut, Sriracha, Curry Ketchup, Thazaki, and others. There are also seven specialty wursts on the menu that come with all kinds of toppings and flavors on a roll — the Schaller Double, The Berlin Wall, Saigon Special, The Checkpoint Charlie, Steuben’s Reuben, etc. I feel like I could eat my way through them all and pretend I’m Chuck Norris on a prisoner of war meat rescue mission movie. Hot dang! I was in orgasmic delight as I engulfed a Schaller Double and made a mess all over my face. Well, that’s not the first time that’s happened. It won’t be the last. I have no shame in my game! They even offer Fried Chicken here. Now, normally one would not think of a bratwurst German-centric kind of spot to have anything to do with fried chicken but let me tell you it was actually pretty solid! My fat gluttonous butt made my way back here over the weekend to grab a few pieces to bring home and sample. A couple of breasts and a leg. Crunchy crispy batter covering some seriously juicy large pieces of chicken. Not too greasy at all. Damn, this place is going all in and I might be in trouble on the way home from work each day. So much temptation. The struggle is real. Holy cow! Now I want to touch myself! (Um…did I also say that out loud?) Nothing beats shoving a delicious tube of meat down your throat! Wrap your lips around one of these bad boys and enjoy!
