After one visit, I sense that Dr Seltzer is a good practitioner and a good human with a good sense of humor. However, he is not in the habit of keeping up with the latest research into the nuances of thyroid dysfunction and treatment. He didn’t view my TSH levels at double what they used to be as cause for treatment. What I need is a doc who will take my symptoms seriously — not just my «normal» test results — and work with me to improve them. Ten minutes into my visit, in response to my stating anxiety as one of my symptoms, he said I didn’t seem to be an anxious person. He also said that insomnia usually means hyperthyroidism, which I don’t believe to be necessarily true, and that 20 extra pounds of fat is «a little overweight». Not the diagnosis I’m looking for.

Rating des Ortes: 4 New York, NY
I’d give Dr. Seltzer a 3.5 ranking — Kira(not sure of her spelling) his receptionist bumps this place to 4 stars. He is by far one of the more level-headed endocrinologists I’ve met. His bedside manner is a fit for someone who needs someone who is the opposite of them(like me) — essentially, he never gets too harsh or strongly adamant. He’s quiet and direct. That may not work for some people, but after you’ve experienced some endocrinologists who seem judgmental or are quick to brush-off symptoms or are dramatic, it’s a welcome change. I know a lot of people in the hypothyroid community may be looking for someone who is Pro Armour Thyroid, Dr. Seltzer definitely belongs to the Synthroid school of thinking. He definitely uses blood tests, so if you’re someone who thinks they have a problem, but has normal levels, he probably won’t give you medication. And honestly, he shouldn’t, given the risk of a heart attack. I definitely think if you’re someone with thyroid issues versus diabetes he’s a good fit — he does research on the thyroid(you can find his published works if you snoop around) and works at Langone, which is good in case you need a sonogram. He actually checks your thyroid properly versus other places. I have been to endos who specialized in diabetes and not thyroid conditions, and since I don’ t have diabetes, I haven’t found their expertise as helpful as his. He also alerted me to the dangers of Spironolactone, discovered that my previous set of meds were giving me high potassium levels, and has a pretty good sense of(dry) humor. Also, his receptionist is amazing, which is why I’m giving the office four stars. She is really nimble with scheduling, friendly and cool, and will give you copies of your blood tests if you ask for them. She’s also turns around referrals quickly.
