Helene did a fantastic job and really put in a lot of effort (the compliments continue to roll in)! The price was also more reasonable vs. some other shops in the areas ($ 30 for men’s). Good music, good vibes — I’ll likely be returning…

I went here for the first time after a recommendation from my sister. I’m so happy I did! I scheduled my appointment with Monique and she was fantastic. She did exactly what I asked for (layers, maintain length, trim dead ends). The last two times I got my hair cut were at a salon in Soho and another in LES, both costing around 200 before tip and I was disappointed at the end of both. The last cut from the LES salon was so uneven and the end result was a frizzy blow out (I have naturally thick curly hair, so you have to know how to blow dry properly for it to not frizz out). My hair cut with Monique was a bargain for the results I obtained. I paid $ 72 after adding a 20% tip. I will definitely recommend this location and look forward to coming back!

I’m fairly new to NYC and transitioning from relaxed to natural. So I decided to try braids. Finding Helene was such a win! She responded to my questions and requests in a timely manner, provided suggestions on what braid hair to purchase (because I really had no idea), and — most importantly — did the braids EXACTLY like the pictures I showed her. I haven’t had braids since I was maybe 10 years, but I LOVE how they turned out!

I had senegalese twists done at this hair salon. I wanted big hair partitions and small amount of extensions, something light on my head.
The hairstylist did not really pay attention to what I wanted. She tried to convince me that the type of hair I was using was light. She used too much hair and made the partitions too small, the opposite of what I asked for. My braids feel heavy.
She also stopped in the middle of the process to give someone else a haircut.
I don’t like giving bad reviews but I wish I had done more research before going to this hair salon. I do not recommend them for braids. I am sure they do great hairstyles with natural hair, but braiding is not their forte.

Ozzy works miracles, man. In all seriousness this shop is awesome. Graffiti on the walls, Young owner who enthusiastically cares about his business, staff who are honestly grateful for your patronage, good ambience, great prices, and attention to detail. Can’t beat it.
