Don’t bother going here if you are an african american and not in a suit. I had to pick up 2 bottles of wine and while i am browsing the stock lady comes and starts to stock the wine right next to my leg. Then on top of that when i go to pay the guy at the register asks me for ID. I am 37 years old and do not look at all under 21. I show him my drivers license with my picture and age on it and he asks me to take it out he wants to see. I actually work right next door to this place so to experience this racism because I am dressed down today is unacceptable. I will not EVER go to this store again. Its 2016 and it is sad that some people still think with this racist mindstate.

I love Sussex! The staff is always super nice and friendly, they even know me by name! And they’ve always been spot on for wine recommendations.

Love these guys, but little pissed that if I come by at 9:50PM and they’re closed closed(gate down). They’re supposed to be open until 10. I don’t care if they close at 9:30, but change your posted hours. I would have stopped elsewhere.

Has a very nice option of liquor and wine. I particularly enjoy the lighting in this establishment. Seriously, whoever did the lighting here deserves mad props. Does not feel like a grocery store.

Honestly one of the best wine stores in the city. The stores design is top notch, the wine selection is some of the best you’ll come across, and awesome staff.

Rich selection of wine, both domestic and foreign. Big space and lovely display. They also have wine tastings on Thursdays and Saturdays! My go-to liquor/wine shop in Murray Hill!

This place is great, I am a huge fan. Great selection, great customer service, great prices. All in one store. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering its location in Midtown East. Sussex Wines & Spirits lives up to the hype. Worth every penny… the staff is friendly and helpful, always asking if we needed anything. This place is awesome.

I really enjoyed going to this store. I went in looking for something quick to pregame with and ended up talking for an hour with the cashier about ciders and wines from all over. Worth while experience. Great prices.

Awesome customer service. They actually recommended a different bottle than one I was buying because the staff didn’t like it, ha! Very nice selection, cozy environment.

Really great location around the corner from my home. Very extensive selection of wine. And a knowledgable staff who are willing to teach you more about wine and make recommendations. Love this place. Very clean and well orgazined.

Great selection, first of all. Lots of smaller producers and not too much«big box» wine — just enough of the usual suspects like Yellowtail, Ruffino, and Cakebread to satisfy those who can’t appreciate a good gem of a wine. Great spanish and french selections. Liquor selection is also good, though there were a few things I would have like to have seen more of(local stuff, especially, guys!) Good staff; prices good for the NYC market. I’ll be back again; theyre worth the 5 minute walk from grand central or 3rd ave.

LOVE it here. It’s so cute and home-y inside, and they have a GIGANTIC selection of wines from all over. The customer service, though, is REALLY what I liked. I entered and looked around, overwhelmed at the selection. Wine girl [almost immediately, but not in a pushy way]: «Hi! Do you need any help?» Me [thankfully]: «Thank GOD. Yes. I have a first date and am in charge of bringing the wine. But I don’t know how much I like this person yet, so something under twenty dollars.» Wine girl [cheerfully]: «YEAH! Exciting! We have some amazing Cotes du Rhone for, like, ten bucks. It drinks like an eighteen-dollar bottle, but we loved it so much that we bought it in bulk so are charging less for it than we normally would. Orrrrr if you want, like, a Cotes du Rhone with a more complex palate, I can offer this for you, over here… but that will run you about sixteen bucks.» Done and done. I loved her honesty about the prices and her knowledge of how the wines tasted. I could tell that she had a genuine passion for wine, and I really felt comfortable making my choice. I’m not in the area a whole lot, but the next time I am, I’m stopping in again and stocking up on wines to take back home to Queens. Also, if you have dinners or functions on the Metro-North, this is a great place to grab wine to take on your way. I know from experience that GCT doesn’t really have the best selection…

I typically try to steer clear of everyday wine shops. The reason being that I prefer wholesale prices at other places. I also have a very expensive taste in wine therefore I try to save my pennies whenever possible. Sussex was one of those wine shops I constantly passed by on my walk to the subway but never stopped into until recently. I was on my way to a get-together and needed some wine. I quickly popped in and asked an employee if they carried my wine of choice. They said yes, asked which one I wanted, and we went to the counter. When they gave me the total, I nearly jumped. I understand it’s expensive wine but never THAT expensive. I sighed and handed over the plastic as they began to wrap my bottle. Service here is quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. The prices just suck. They do seem to offer a lot of wine but I’m afraid of the prices for even better wines.

I give Sussex a four, rather than a three, primarily as a result of the stellar service. The staff are very helpful and friendly even when the store is extremely busy. They deliver very quickly, and they are located very conveniently. The selection is clearly acceptable, but I do not think that it is great by any means. I’ve never been introduced to anything really stellar there, as far as wine is concerned.
