After not eating all day, I was craving phở and this was one of the few available delivery options. Grubhub described the phở as a hearty beef broth with thin rice noodles, which is a pretty standard description of phở. I’m pretty sure what I actually got was chicken bullion and maybe the noodles were just big-boned, but it was a pretty disappointing meal. Edible, but that’s about as much praise as I can give it. It also arrived about 40 minutes after the later end of the delivery window, so I can’t say I plan on eating here again.

I’m not sure what everyone’s b*tching about. Got green curry delivered, it got here before the ETA, and it was far superior to Spice’s green curry.

My delivery order arrived a full hour late after 2 fake updates as to the delivery time. I don’t do business with companies who treat customers this badly. Never again.

Mmmh. I didn’t check out the reviews before I walked in. We were hungry, walking around that area and the place was packed so we decided to give it a try. We had the salmon and Pad Thai. The salmon was actually good, but it wasn’t enough at all. The Pad Thai was too sweet and the noodles very very sticky and it wasn’t easy to eat. The service wasn’t bad but also nothing special. In total: I wouldn’t go there again because the food is not worth it.

This review is for online orders. Thai Nam is open late. Apparently, they have multiple locations. When my order when through on an online order for another location close to home, it was instead forwarded to another kitchen. I’m on the upper west side and this was not published on the website at all. Appears that the owners did not mind to send delivery guys up lengthy treks for profits, but this is clearly not evident on sites such as seamless: O

Food was mediocre at best. Probably the first time I had Thai food that I didn’t love. The place was bland and awkward. While I was there the only other people in the place walked out without touching their food. I actually felt bad for the waiter. Only reason I give it two stars and not one is that they are BYOB and the prices were decent. This place would really only be good as a cheap BYOB pregame.

I wish I read these reviews before I ended up eating here, but I guess that’s just a good lesson on never forgetting to pre-yelp again. It wasn’t tragically bad, just disappointing. Although I did almost die afterwards, but I don’t know that it was related.

Last time I eat at a restaurant before checking Unilocal! Waiter was rude and abrupt. Pai Thai was served with no bean sprouts or lime. When questioned, they said they ran out. Bubble Tea — to get the«bubbles» you pay 50 cents extra and the tapioca was hard and dry in the center. I cut one in half and showed the waiter. He said, that’s how they make it… blah blah blah. Did it even occur to him while trying to feed me that BS that I’m Asian and have been drinking bubble tea my whole life? Yuck.

I wish I could say that Thai Nam was an unassuming, family-run no-frills hole-in-the-wall restaurant with cheap, real, delicious Thai food. Unfortunately, the last part is totally untrue. The food was surely the worst thai food I’ve ever had in the city. The Pineapple fried rice was dry, almost flavorless– the chicken was bland and overcooked, the pineapple was obviously canned. The calamari salad(not sure of the proper thai name) was a miserable collection of soggy greens swimming in what tasted like unadulterated lemon juice, interspersed with almost flavorless, rubbery calamari. The only thing good was the thai iced-tee, but that came prepackaged with the misleading label«pear,» and plenty of corporate-looking thai writing, suggesting its quality had less to do with the chef and more to do with the industrial food supplier they bought it from. The place was deserted, and I had pity on the store owners, who seemed like a regular family. I wish for their sake that the food was good. But sometimes, there is a reason a place is deserted. And the sole waiter, who couldn’t have been older than 18, was obviously under-trained– it took him and his dad at least 10 minutes to figure out how to charge my debit card. For good thai food on Amsterdam, just go to Spice down the avenue. Sometimes the chain does beat the mom n’ pop, sadly enough.

Thai Nam opened up about two weeks ago where the indian restaurant, Tamarind once stood. I only remember because a guy came in asking where Tamarind went. Thai Nam’s décor was minimal and bland. It’s literally just tables, chairs, large mirrors and so much lighting, it hurt. The service… I don’t really know where to begin. There’s an older man who acts as the host, a young boy who waits, and a young lady in the kitchen. The one thing I request from the staff of Thai Nam is to know your food. Know what you’re serving and be able to answer certain questions like«What do you think is the best dish?» «What vegetables are in this dish?», etc. and If you’re going to ask«what would you like on that?» be sure you know what the choices are instead of running to the computer and saying«chicken, tofu.uhh. flank steak.» out loud for the entire place to hear. oh, and know what flank steak is instead of saying«uhh. it’s uhh some sort of beef or something». The host had a hard time juggling taking phone orders and dealing with walk in customers. Granted, the guy he was dealing with really wanted indian food, so it took him forever to decide what he wanted to order. It was a terrible combo: guy wants curry similar to indian food, host doesn’t know anything about Thai Nam curry. For a while it seemed like they just kept saying the same thing over and over again«which is spiciest?» «we can make anything spicy» «whats the difference between masaman, red and green?» «it’s all spicy – we can all make them really spicy», etc etc… occasionally, the host would cut him of to take a phone delivery. but you get the point. While all of this was going on, a party of three kept waiting to at least be acknowledged until they got fed up and just said, «hey, is it cool if we just seat ourselves?». The food has no frills and no care for presentation. and hey, i’m cool with it if you get my food on point. Chicken spicy mango was not spicy at all, and very sweet from the mango. Still good, and I wished I had more rice to eat with the sauce. The summer rolls sucked – no mint, basil, cilantro – it was bland and the sauce was too sour. The food at Thai Nam is alright at best. It’s not going to be satisfying, but it isn’t the worst. It just leaves you wishing you went to «the commercial crap». And yes, one guy who picked up a menu actually asked the host«hey, this isn’t the commercial crap, right?!»
