The Bean really fell short on coffee quality when I stopped in one afternoon. The only thing I had here was coffee, and it was awful. Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, or likely any other coffee place in the area would’ve been better.

Super cute little coffee shop on Broadway with a ton of large open windows to people watch. Personally one of my more favored study areas where I can order a solid cup of joe and get a nice, cozy corner and read up a bit. The only issue that I have with this place is the seating. It relatively medium sized, but because they have so many students in the area, the place is ALWAYS full. There are always people on ever window chair set up with their laptops and all. It is a little sad if you get there too late for a spot, but honestly, if I go just for the coffee, I’d be A-Ok with that.

They get crowded, so it can be a long wait in line. Tables are hard to get here. But this is a good place to grab a coffee on the go before heading across the street to The Strand bookstore. They have a Nutella Fitzgerald, which is a latte with Nutella:)

Stopped by here real quick to just grab a latte, but I ended up getting the NUTella Fitzgerald, which was good! Tasted like hazelnut(as you would expect due to the name of the espresso). My sister said her latte was«good»(and she’s pretty picky), so that’s good! The ambiance of the place was very hip and I loved the seasonal decorations/paintings on the windows! Nothing crazy and the coffee didn’t blow me away, but I’m definitely a fan, wouldn’t mind going back, and was overall happy with my experience! Staff was very nice! (Also their macaroon selection looked sooo good, but unfortunately I was too full from lunch to try one. I would try if you love macaroons — they look delicious!)

I love this place. I go there everyday on my way into work. There are a ton of coffee shops in the area, but the awesome and friendly staff at The Bean are what keeps me coming back. Not to mention the formidably bold house coffee. With ample seating and outside benches, it’s a great place to work, read, hangout, etc. Check it out!

This isn’t my favorite Bean location, but it’s still a decent coffee shop. The location is small and cozy, with comfy seating. It’s a perfect location, right next to the Strand Bookstore in the heart of Union Square. There’s a lot of seating and tables, but since it’s always busy, It’s hard finding a spot to sit. It’s because it’s located on a busy corner, so it’s annoying when you come here, prepared to sit down, work on the computer, and sip your coffee when there’s no where to ever sit. It’s surprisingly busy at night too, with a ton of students invading the place. The food is alright, and the drinks are pretty good. The baristas are friendly, but you can tell they’re students with little to no coffee experience. It especially shows when the line gets incredibly long and they become overwhelmed. The bathroom is actually pretty disgusting. They have a sign that says they like to keep it clean, but it never is. It just smells all the time. I must say, this places is always a great meet up spot with a friend or a café that’s good to bust out the computer and work. I’m surprised there’s not more places like The Bean that has a lot of seating to get work done and drink coffee. Not too many in NYC have an atmosphere like The Bean, probably because a lot of coffee shops in NYC aren’t as big as The Bean. So, I’ll give them that.

The fact that they allow my four-legged friend go join me instantly makes this one of my favorite spots around. Great drinks(frozen hot chocolate for the win) tasty treats and the friendliest baristas around. Coupled with a cozy and eclectic vibe inside and a delightfully mellow clientele. Throw in proximity to Strand and you’ve basically got a perfect coffee shop. Bonus points for their inventive holiday window art.

This place had a fun vibe when I walked in, and I immediately had my eye on a corner seat near the window that seemed to have comfy cushions. I placed my order in hopes of claiming my throne. The guy who was working was super friendly, the girl who was working had an attitude. Yin & yang, I guess. So, as I awaited my order, I hurried over to get the spot. Extreme comfort let-down: rock solid. Dang. I still sat there because I was ashamed of my stride’s confidence. I got the Austin Style egg sandwich. Say«yes» to a side of buffalo sauce… this bad boy is otherwise DRY. I will always remember this spot, though, because of one reason. The express train to my heart… the Peanut Butter Cup Latte.

This review is just for the Nutella Fitzgerald. I can’t say anything about their other items. If I’m feeling indulgent and need a place to study, I go to any of the bean’s location and order a Nutella Fitzgerald. It’s basically a Nutella latte and they put a huge scoop of Nutella, so you can actually taste it. The staff here are quite friendly and they accept CUPS app here(use the code TMYP8 for $ 10 off). Only down side is that it can get pretty crowded here.

Came here because it’s one of a limited number of cafes open in the evening, and I needed to get some work done. At 8PM on Monday night, there were at least 3 tables available. The environment is pretty reasonable for work — lots of NYU students were there studying — but no free wifi. The seating around the windows are comfy cushioned benches with pillows — but this was somewhat ruined for me when the couple at the table next to me started to engage in some, er, pretty heavy petting and rather loud intimate conversation… Coffee was only okay — and the baristas were rather curt. The location of this place is great, but I don’t think I’ll be back.

Since I discovered The bean it’s been my local coffe shop and the place I take friends to and chill. Friendly décor, their Chai Latte is the best in Town and the entire staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Deshawn and Vanessa make the enviroment fun, always remaining professional. The staff’s knowledge of their products and service is an added value to the Bean. I deeply recommend it.

The Mona Lisa is pretty good. What I really like here, though, is the fact that they carry Fentiman’s colas and herbal lemonade!

Iced. Dirty. Chai. Late. Small coffee shop in union square with the most unbelievable staff. It’s a welcoming shop that adds some energy and excitement to your day. Can’t put a price on that. Add a little excitement to your day and stop at The Bean !!

Disgust. That’s all I have to say. The café is filthy. Literally every surface in the place had a stain on it. Sweet, sticky coffee stains dripping and congealed — even on the widow frame! The barista didn’t seem to know how to maintain a cash register as there was a pile of loose change and bills piled behind the counter. My arrival at the bar was welcomed with broken English, an attitude I might expect to find at the DMV window in Detroit. I was honestly afraid to consume my beverage as I wasn’t sure the barista was any more hygienic than the café itself. The bathroom seems to be used for homeless showers as the reeking smell coming out of it was so horrid. I felt like I needed a shower after leaving this place. It was that bad.

Everyone told me that if I like dirty chais, that I would love the bean’s: best in nyc! try it calvin, a must have! crazy delivious! said my friends who speak in haikus. I went to the bean and was thoroughly disappointed. I’m not much of a coffee snob, but I thought the espresso was a little burnt. I’ve had other drinks at different beans that were excellent, but today I suppose I was out of luck.

Three words: iced chai latte. Get it. Got it? Good. Seriously, if I lived in NYC I would probably never leave this coffee shop. It is a serious factor in my decision where to move post-uni.

This is my go-to coffee place. It’s super convenient to Strand Books and has really solid coffee. There’s not a lot of seating but it’s usually never crowded to be a problem. Bonus points for their clever pun coffee drinks like the Nutella Fitzgerald and Mother TeReecea. Their dirty chai is one of the best I’ve had and their baked goods are fantastic. The pistachio muffin is the pinnacle muffin experience in y book. The only complaint is that the paper wrappers on their muffins are really difficult to remove and you end up needing a fork to eat them, making them not ideal if you’re on the go. It’s a constant challenge to decide if you’re okay sacrificing half the muffin to wrapper casualties or to stay and be late for your train. Yeah yeah I know, first world problem but it’s still a little annoying. But muffin paper challenge aside, this place is really tops. They also have some of the nicest baristas in the city. :-)

A good spot to go people watching. The baristas are always really nice. Best drink to get: Chai latte! Not to mention they participate in Cups app so you can get some discounts on your drink. The bathroom is a bit on the narly side though — better than Starbucks though.
