Excellent price point with great sandwiches! I got the egg sandwich with cheese on a croissant + bacon. Under $ 10 for a sandwich that good is unheard of unless you go to a local deli. The way they seat you with the handkerchiefs is a cute and unique aspect about this place. By the time I ordered my sandwich there was a table ready for me. Once the food is ready, they bring it to your table! Don’t let a long line deter you because they work hard to move it quickly! Everyone I interacted with was friendly and smiling. Little things like that go a long way, especially in the grind of NYC. Can’t get enough of this place!

When you step inside this restaurant it feels like you’ve left New York City. Laid back, friendly staff and yummy wholesome food.

Pros: The food is good and the ambience is great. One star for each. Cons: It’s significantly more expensive than comparable places in the neighborhood(the commons, b bar, etc.) And most importantly, the service is almost always awful. It’s super slow and the servers often have bad attitudes. I could deal with that if it was designed to be a «slow» café(where everything was laid back and relaxed) but they rush customers out the door despite taking forever to serve them. If they cut the prices by $ 1 – 3 per item and hired different servers, this would be an easy 5 stars.

I can’t love this place more! The place is cozy though a little bit crowed(always full of people). The portions are splendid, I believe eaters will love the portions of the meal. Highly recommendation: The Grey Dog breakfast In addition to the gorgeous portions, I recommend everyone should try this meal with their homemade pancake.

I love this place! Great food, coffee. Ambiance is perfect because there’s daylight and it’s cozy but the decibel level is quite high. Its difficult to talk and hear above the noise. I’d come more often if it was a bit quieter.

Love love love this place. So many options on the menu, I highly recommend the baked oatmeal. Delish! Portions are super generous and the vibe is chilled. Only downside is no wifi. Went here for a breakfast meeting once and this would have been really helpful.

I would like to start this by saying that I really really wanted to like this place. The staff was friendly, we were quickly seated after ordering during a very busy time, the menu had some great options… But then there’s the food. My husbands chicken sandwich was slightly better than OK though the chips on the side were definitely the crumbs from the bottom of a bag. I ordered a soup and salad combo fully expecting the portions to be smaller but I was not expecting 4 tiny pieces of lettuce and Greek salad without olives or feta. The soup, potato and kale, was decent but had very little flavor and was only lukewarm. Lastly, the bathroom was gross. I’m sorry grey dog, I was hoping today was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

First of all, I love the atmosphere of this location. It’s so warm and cozy and there is so much more seating available than the Union Square location. Both, however, have excellent food. The baja fish tacos are fantastic. Last time I went, it as the day before my birthday and my friend got me a marble brownie. But when they heard it was my birthday, they gave it to us on the house. SO nice! And I actually came here to just say that this marble brownie is the most ridiculously wonderful brownie I’ve ever had. Most pastries available at cafes look a lot better than they taste. This one is the opposite, and it’s really pretty so that’s saying a lot. I don’t know what kind of magic this is made of, but it’s just SO freakin good. Go get one!

This used to be one of my favorite places. The food is very good but please make note. This used to be one of the best happy hours in the neighborhood but they took 90% of the food items off the happy hour. Big bummer. Two people behind me walked out because it took too long to make it to the counter. Short staffed tonight? Wow! Terrible maintenance in the bathroom now VERY concerned about the KITCHEN. DISGUSTING!!! Lazy staff = hospital visits or time spent on a clean toilet in your own home for hours in the middle of the night. NOTWORTHIT

The line was super long but the grey dog’s breakfast was a great deal! Minor complaint is that my hazelnut coffee was cold for some reason.

My new favorite quirky gem on the West Side. Their iced hazelnut coffee is too watery. However their kale & potato soup with shaven almonds, and artichoke, spinach, bell peppers, and goat cheese sandwich is wonderful! The bread was toasted to a crisp and the cheese was melted throughly. I will come back just for those meal items alone. The space is big but the ceilings are low, so tall people beware haha!

I’m just in love with the menu here. Had the challah French toast this time and it was awesome. Not too much food, and it came with bananas, strawberries and blueberries for toppings. Also had iced coffee — so good. Be prepared to wait about 20 minutes if you come during peak brunch time on the weekends.

Good but the prices are pretty ridiculous. I got the poached eggs on arugula with salmon and a side of bacon & a Mexican hot chocolate. The eggs were super runny and there wasn’t actually much flavor to the dish at all — still good but not worth $ 26 for breakfast. Hot chocolate was great tho! Just saying the prices need to come down a bit.

I’m not sure when The Grey Dog popped up but it’s one of my new favorite places in the city to bring friends. I am a huge fan of the ‘pay at the bar and then sit down’ system. It pleasantly reminds me of independent pubs back in the UK(where I currently live), offering great breakfast, yummy sandwiches, amazing cakes, beer, and some interesting cocktails. Very cosy and eclectic, and clearly quite popular, for a good reason. Some of the nicest staff I’ve encountered. Prices seem reasonable for most things(the only thing I couldn’t justify was the $ 8 peanut butter and jelly sandwich… maybe I’m missing something).

Great brunch!!! Busy over the holidays and weekend. But, it’s worth it. Omelettes are great. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. I would go back any day and try other items. Excellent!

Soju bloody Mary — yum!!! Also, good coffee, iced tea and lemonades. Standout smoked salmon on toast, delicious salads. Our group of five was nervous about being seated on a busy Sunday afternoon. While you are standing on the line to order, one of the waiters comes up to you to get the number of people in your party and to find you a spot. Despite the superficial chaos, you are actually never rushed, well taken care of and enjoy solid good food.

The first thought that comes to mind when you walk into this place is, confused! Came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, and it looked as if we needed to wait to be seated, but then there was also a very long line of people at the counter waiting to order. After a few minutes of awkwardly standing around trying to make contact with a worker that could fill us in on what the heck we were suppose to do, we were told to sit at a particular table and then get in line to order our food. Definitely a unusual way to do things, and I question whether this is the best method. After waiting in a fairly decent line, I ordered and sat down. Most things are self service, such as water, utensils, and sauces. The waiters come out and yell your name until you signal that the order is yours. I split an order of cheese fries and a chicken quesadilla with a friend. The fries were yummy, but felt like crap afterwards and regretted eating them. The quesadilla was messy and a bit bland. I wasn’t sure whether I should tip since it was mostly self service, so my experience ended just as it began, with me being confused!

Came here yesterday for a late lunch. I ordered the lunch Quesadilla and Cheese Fries. Lunch Quesadilla came with roasted tomatoes, sour cream, cheese(not sure what kind, but it was a stronger tasting cheese), grilled chicken, and salsa. I thought the Quesadilla was good but kind of bland. The cheese fries were delicious and amazing. Just fried enough and cheese had enough cheesey flavor. Did not know I could get so excited about cheese and fries… The way this place work is pretty interesting. You order at the counter and sit down. Food comes pretty fast. It’s kind of confusing if you’re a first timer though because it’s not obvious what to do. I thought the servers were pretty easy to wave down, but service felt a little confusing. Overall, I enjoyed and would definitely return for a second visit.

Had a nice lunch with the best friend today at this cozy spot. We had never been here before so we were unaware of the way this place worked at first. You walk in and there’s music playing(a bit too loud if you ask me), which is the only thing we could really complain about. The staff was very friendly — you have to walk up to the front bar and order and pay for your food and then find yourself a seat. They bring you your food afterwards, and come clean up your area when you’re done. The food was very good! The nacho plate was incredibly filling and tasty. I hope to return someday for another lunch date. Highly recommended for a date or a nice lunch with a friend!

On my last morning in NYC, my brother suggested I get myself a proper brunch at Grey Dog. Knowing how crowded brunch can get on Saturday mornings anywhere, I made sure to get there before 9:30am, which gave me time to enjoy my brekky before heading off to the airport. Since I was there early enough, there were only a few people ahead of me in line. They have an interesting process of ordering and seating. As you wait in line, one of the hipster servers asks how many people are in your party and shows you a bandana that you have to look out for as he uses it as a marker to show you where you’ll be seated. Okay… sure. I ordered a spinach and mushroom omelette which came with toast and their home fries. The veggies tasted very fresh. I’m not a fan of potatoes in general, but I actually liked their home fries. The coffee was pretty good too. Overall, it was a nice atmosphere for breakfast. It feels cozy. I dig the maps that decorated each table. As I was wrapping up, I noted the line was already forming outside the door. I would say prices are standard for brunch. My meal was $ 13. Though I was a bit horrified when I saw a cup of orange juice cost almost $ 4. But I would come here again if I’m in town. Key for Saturday breakfast: Get there between 9:30am-10:00 to beat the crowds!

Beaucoup d’attente(env.
