This is a pleasant gem of a shop. Downstairs there are all sorts of sewing related needs and notions, and upstairs is where the real surprise is: YARN! Upstairs they have an odd/unusual assortment of yarns(I can only assume are discontinued lots – so if you shop there, SNAPUP a lot of skeins of a particular dye lot), different knitting and crochet related notions, needles, hooks, patterns etc. It’s a treasure trove of things you did not know you needed. The pricing is nice, and the customer service is adequate to more than adequate. So if you’re in the area, pop in and head upstairs. It’s worth your while.

Went in there to look for yarn for a crochet project and found absolutely nothing … They have a very small selection and as quick as I went in was as quick I left … I was out of town and thought I can look for a new project to check out and ended up looking for another store right away … This place sucked for yarn selections … They did have a bunch of buttons and other things do sewing … But not was I was looking for I’m terms of crocheting …

Either they are overpriced or they like to rip off newer less experienced fashion students…

The staff is really sweet and the prices are ok, could be better though.

Nice selection of basic yarns for knitting. Some on sale. Ok selection of trims. The people working there weren’t terribly friendly, though. They stared at me as I looked at the stuff downstairs and it was a little tense. When I decided I didn’t want to get a particular trim, the man and the woman started complaining about me in their own language. I really don’t like it when people will start saying bad stuff about you in a language you don’t understand… it is rude. However, the prices were ok.

I often stop here for sewing notions. They don’t have everything I need, but they have a good selection and the staff are far more personable than those at some of the other notions shops on this street. It’s so nice to see a smile once in a while!

Review for embroidery floss only: Don’t come here … the floss is 75cents each, whereas you can get a cheaper rate at someplace like Daytona. Hell, you can get embroidery floss for 35cents at Michaels. P.S. They really need to update the website. There’s no listings of what yarn they have or what bag handles they carry.

I was just looking for some yarn and thread to fix some of my clothing items. I was disappointed with Vardhman. They seem to have an okay stock of yarn, but they were out of black in the one I wanted. The guy working there wanted to be helpful, but he was not that versed in the English language. The attitude of the store on the whole was low energy. On the plus side, it’s on a block with lots of other similar stores, so you can shop around.

I am not sure why anyone would go here to buy yarn or knitting supplies. They do have some notions and yarns but about the same stuff they carry at Michaels but for a little more and without the variety. When you can go directly to Lion Brand Studios(which is awesome even if you are not crazy about their yarn), I am not sure why you would buy lion yarn anywhere else. I might go here for other notions or possibly material, buttons, etc. But then it doesn’t seem better than other stores on the street.

Not bad; the people who work here are really nice. I came here for knitting supplies, and they have a large selection, but the prices were a little high for your basic yarns that a general crafts store would have a dollar or two cheaper. I didn’t buy anything, but I would go back for the wool yarns: They were priced pretty good. It’s hit or miss, but they have lots of trim here.

I have only come here for knitting supplies; it’s one of very few stores in the greater area you will find for yarn, knitting and crocheting paraphernalia, but one of many in the garment district for buttons and trim. Walk through a slightly cramped space to the shadowy stairs in the back and you will find a small 2nd floor annex dedicated to yarns, needles, embroidery, and crochet. They carry a wide selection of acrylic, kiddie, and aluminum Susan Bates needles, and a scattering of Clover bamboo needles. You’ll even find more novelty items such as light-up needles, haha! The yarn selection is fair. There’s a wide range from cheapie skeins about $ 5−6/per, and nicer stuff between $ 16 – 20. Not the most well-organized, but there’s a great variety of textures and materials. fyi, new shipments arrive on Fridays.

I really appreciate that this store is open until 6:30p on Saturdays, which is pretty rare for the fashion district. I found everything I needed, and the staff was helpful.

UPDATE: VARDHAM’S NEW, HUGELOCATIONJUSTOPENEDUP A COUPLEOFDOORSDOWNFROMORIGINALSPACE, ANDITISGRRRRREAT! I can’t say ENOUGH about this crafts/sewing/notions store: it has pretty much everything for the knitting/arts & crafts/sewing aficionado. AND it’s usually open til’ 7pm or so. Their button selection is fabulous, as is their huge sewing notions’ wall. I recently couldn’t find their business card, walked up and down the mid 30s and couldn’t find it… til’ now! The staff is very polite and helpful as well. A nice gentleman with Punjabi turban bent over backwards to help me find knitting supplies and buttons a month ago. The lovely lady usually behind the counter is a delight – always helpful, even when they’re about to close for the evening.

This tiny closet of a store has a lot packed in – but it’s a bit messy so ask for help if you’re in a rush. The website listed has a fare listing of what they carry(buttons, zippers, bag handles etc.) Note that most of the yarns are polyester, but it’s one of the few places in midtown where you can pick up some circular or double pointed needles as well as other knitting and sewing notions.
