4 stars based on going in with clear expectations. Confession: I love completely fake, Americanized Chinese food. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of places that serve a higher level of Chinese cuisine. But now and again I also love the kind I used to eat in college: Cheap, greasy, likely filled with MSG and great for all those reasons. This is that kind of place. They have the «daily specials» which come with fried rice and a giant egg roll for well under $ 10.
Most importantly they have Crab Rangoon which seem very difficult to find in NYC. Yes I know there’s not a shred of authenticity to Crab Rangoon. I also know that no matter what type of food you’re eating, frying cheese inside of dough is literally always a good thing.
Don’t forget it’s Cash Only! You won’t need much though.

Now I don’t normally like to troll on my people but I gotta put these dudes on blast.
I was working in the neighborhood and was looking for some cheap chinese delivery. Wok City had the highest of the lowest reviews from the Chinese restaurants listed in the area by Unilocal.I called for delivery and ordered the chicken and string bean over white rice with egg roll combo. Total came out to ~$ 11 and I was about to pay the guy $ 14 but he looked at me like I was tipping him $ 1. He then went to say that he traveled a long distance to get to my address. I wasn’t willing to dupe this guy out a tip but it was clear night, normal dinner time, and I didn’t notice any street closures in the area. Again I hold my right to tip upon service and not a requirement.
The food was just okay and could of been saved by some flavor without the generic brown sauce. After taking the gigantic egg roll out of its oil filled sack the inside filling was just lukewarm and similar to biting into a huge gusher filled with old oil.
I can’t really compare these guys to my local joints in Chinatown but I have to say my expectations were far from being met at this place. Only way I’ll frequent them again is if I’m highly intoxicated.

Your average cheap fake Chinese food. The only thing that is decent is there dumpings.

My coworkers constantly brag about Wok City and how it’s the «best» in the area. So today we decided to order as a group. While ordering, I asked for ketchup packets but was then told bluntly that «We don’t have” — (Understandable) but then I asked if she can kindly place some ketchup on the side of my meal. The woman said rudely «No, we cannot do that.» WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS IS THIS? Why can’t you put ketchup in my meal that I am paying you for and tipping you to deliver? Not only that, when our meals came, there were no tarter sauce for the shrimp, no ketchup, no duck sauce, and barely any eating utensils. The only reason I’m rating this place one star (deserves 0 for poor customer service) is because of the tastiness of the food. Though, everyone knows when something is missing from the food you’re consuming, you can barely enjoy it.

I enjoy there lunch specials chicken and broccoli and lo mein. Very delicious and tasteful.

— I ordered the ‘COMBO’, which means, AKA tons of rice with sprinkling of meat on top
— Fried rice is HORRIBLE, not even fried rice… it’s just yellow rice and oil
— Egg roll is horrible that comes with it
— The food itself isn’t good and again, lacks MEAT
No idea how they swindled me for my money, but never again!

As a Chinese, I have to say that it reminds me the very same taste as I experienced in China! Though it’s more likely to be a fast food, it’s really delicious and well served, which much exceeded its price. I mean it’s really money for value! You can’t miss it if you want to explore the authentic Chinese snack

Tried and true cheap Chinese food. ‘Just like the kind I used to know’ maybe from my freshmen years in college. Reliable-​consistent– not gourmet and that’s just fine by me:)

Fair Chinese food in the Lincoln Center area. Hot and Sour soup was neither, even after doctoring. Egg roll, string beans and beef with vegetables all adequate. The last could have been spicier. We asked for one soup and for bean curd. We received two soups and no bean curd. Recommend this only if the desire is for quick and OK Chinese food.

After eating here, I really have to wonder where this place and other chinese food restaurants get their meats? Where can you buy meats that have no taste whatsoever? What can you do to meat to make it taste like nothing? I found the food here having many off tastes and the meat completely tasteless.

Steady as she goes with the good value for what you get. Have tried the wonton soup a couple of times. Not my favorite. Wontons are too doughy for my liking. Singapore noodles is one of my go to items. Hot and Sour soup too.

This place has been on the UWS forever. I can remember looking forward to their lunch specials when I was a student. Recently gave them a try after a long time away from it. It’s good for that occasional fix of solid Chinese takeout and staff has recently gotten friendlier and the food slightly better. The prices are very reasonable. They have lunch specials and special all day combos. Also popular are their American fried food options. This place has some good «old school» selections. In addition to those, I would love to see them start offering Chinese greens and additional vegetable options.

I just discovered this wonderful takeout place. The food is outstanding, fresh and the prices are incredibly low, whether you are living in a more expensive part of town or visiting the area. Such helpful people when I ordered, two small tables inside, did take out, the sesame tofu, eggplant, and if you order at least $ 20 a free order of cold noodles — also included. Definitely worth the trip from anywhere. Fresh and yes delicious! Take it from Jan, always around Lincoln Center and this is a great place to go for fresh Chinese takeout.

Used to order from Ollie’s when it was on Broadway (used to actually be good years ago), but it went downhill and it closed, and Hiro Sushi at Ollie’s by Riverside is shit, so I’ve switched to a few other Chinese joints, namely, Wok City. Oh the wasted years! Food is not only cheaper, but better. And the people are friendlier and seem to actually care about the customer.
I love their tofu dishes. The tofu is big and lightly fried (not like the tofu at Empire Szechuan which are little cubes of over-​fried soy shit curds) so the outside is just crispy enough while still being squishy and decadently delicious. They have sesame tofu, but you can ask for, say, General Tso’s and orange tofu (’cause it’s just the same dish with a different corn syrupy sauce, right?) Honestly I’d probably be happy to have the General Tso’s tofu as my last meal. Also strongly recommend the eggplant with garlic sauce.
As another reviewer mentioned, I do applaud them for having some «American» dishes as well (e.g., fried chicken, french fries, etc.) They know their customers! (the students of MLK High School and the residents of the nearby projects buildings).
This is not a place where you should eat if you want to eat healthy, however, if you want to treat yourself/​are stoned and want to munch on some delicious food, and for it to also be cheap ’cause you’ve already spent a lot of money on pot, then Wok City is the ticket!!! Love you, Wok City!

They charge you extra for no reason and don’t try to ask why or you will get serious attitude.

Dont understand why this place isn’t reviewed more often. This is the best chinese food that Ive had. I moved to Harlem now and the chinese places around here suck. Every time we would go on vacations, the first thing we did when we got back was order from this place and it always satisfied. The sauce that they make for the chicken broccoli is delicious, and it seems like no other chinese place makes it the way they do. They truly deserve a higher rating.

This is one of those good Chinese take-​out places on the West Side. If you live in or have lived in the city you know what I’m talking about. Out of towners might get a little freaked out by the looks of the place but the food is what matters. I ordered General Tso’s chicken (nice large portion) and crab rangoons both were very good and satisfying. Considering it’s right near Lincoln Center the prices are extremely reasonable for New York City. I would recommend this place for a night you want to stay in and watch a movie and eat good Chinese.
