Came here for happy hour drinks on Friday since the weather was nice and it wasn’t crowded. They don’t have outdoor seating, but the whole front of the restaurant is open so you sort of feel like you’re outside. We got the $ 5 margaritas which look like the ones at Mickey Spillane’s but are stronger so it’s a better value for your money. I had a Chicken Thai Spicy Salad for what was supposed to be dinner but it wasn’t very substantial like I thought it’d be for the price, although it tasted pretty good. Overall, it’s a decent place but I think the best thing about it are the drinks; otherwise, I wasn’t blown away.

2.5 stars, rounded down for theater pandering. Yum Yum is basically the embodiment of ‘Theater Crowd Food’. It’s very generic Thai that works fairly hard to keep people who don’t eat ethnic foods comfortable. If your idea of WILDANDCRAZYCUISINE is getting Pad Thai or(god forbid) a medium spiced red curry, you may love it here. If you’re actually more adventurous than that, please wander elsewhere. Obao Thai and Pam Real Thai food are nearby, as are many other great non-Thai places. The food is mostly ‘fine’ but with no oomph in the flavors. They’re going to get you in and serve you the pre-fixe and get you out. Atmosphere is lacking. Really, there’s no reason to choose Yum Yum unless everywhere else is closed.

Like most people, you never actually seek this place out, you just happen to get here. Friday night, a sign saying there’s $ 5 drinks with actual tables to sit at. Sold. As previously mentioned, the drink deals are solid. Got the $ 5 lime margarita(all day) — frozen lime standard goodness at the right price. Wasn’t too hungry, so settled on the Steamed Spinach Dumplings($ 5) and the Chicken Satae($ 4). The dumplings are okay, regular steamed with some seasoning on top, good with the chili sauce. Satae is served on two skewers with minimal seasoning and much better with the sauces provided. Plenty of servers here, so the service is solid. Overall, the drink promotions are what you come here for.

I was searching for Thai food in the area. I decided to try this place for dinner. I ordered soft shell crab with basil and fried calamari. The first thing that surprised me was how fast my ordered came. Second was how delicious they both were. I’m so happy I found this place during my vacation. I hope I will have time to come back here again before I go home to L.A.

Went for lunch. Avoid avoid. No flavor. The red and green curry were watered down. The thai fried rice was simply not palatable.

My friend and I were walking through the 9th ave eager to try something new. We stopped by this place which was reasonably priced. We ordered a sangria pitcher and had a great conversation over it. The staff were really polite and ensured we had a good experience. My favorite was the fried banana and coconut icecream dessert. They also have prefix menu for $ 18!

Not fully sure what to make of this place. We had just arrived back from Boston and it was admittedly late, like 11:30. The place looked quite full so we went in. We asked if we could have a table and were told the kitchen was closing, but if we ordered quick it would be fine. As in, they put the menu down and 30 seconds later we were asked for our order. All a bit rushed, so just opted for the safe bets of thai green curry and a massaman curry. About 5 mintues later both curries appeared, the quickest I have ever seen, this was before our margaritas arrived. At one point we thought we weren’t being allowed to have our drinks. But they did eventually arrive. The curry was fine as was the drink, but I did not like how rushed we felt. The bill was produced before we had finished eating. If your kitchens closed, just say that, don’t try and make a quick buck!

I came here for dinner one night with co-workers. The Thai food here is pretty small portioned, but pretty good. THey also have Singha $ 3 and margaritas for $ 5 special. I think the curry here is pretty good. The place is kind of small, but they have multiple locations next to each other!

Wow, there are a LOT of disappointed Elite reviews in here. Definitely not the best sign when coming into a restaurant. As many others were similarly curious, my boyfriend and I noticed how there were THREE Yum Yum’s in the same block, so one night we finally decided to try out the original. I actually had a decent taste experience — ordered the squid pad kee mao and received one with shrimp, but it was still pretty good. My boyfriend ordered the red curry and received one that was not that color at all. He was quite displeased and kept eating parts of my dish. The cocktails were also all right, and we ordered them with the intention of getting a complimentary«appetizer»(this is only two tiny dumplings FYI). Anyway, as others have also mentioned, not really worth venturing here when OBAO is right across the street and way better.

There’s so much Thai food to choose from on this block. This place tasted decent. The lychitini was very strong and tasty. The duck skin was crispy and different than the duck we had before. Price was very reasonable and have good prefix deals.

Much better than the lunch special we had across the street! I had the crispy duck salad, it was very delicious and … Crispy! Then I had the half grilled chicken with fried rice and a side salad. I think that if you go with the pre-set menu, you don’t get as much but you get the classic flavors you are looking for in Thai restaurants. You’ll have a great pad Thai, a great curry. Yum yum is a good restaurant, you can’t be bad and have 3 places on a block lol, it fixes that«I want Thai food» but it’s not as good as it has been and the staff has the tendency to be a little dismissive. Quick bite.

Came here for a quick meal. Seated promptly, bar seems to be pretty happening. Food is okay, but service is kind of slow. We had to flag down our waitress because we were waiting for so long. My friend and I ordered the Penang curry, Red curry, and Tong Yum soup. They were all pretty tasty and hit the spots it should hit. A bit heavy, but still very good and filling. Only critique is in the red curry, I was not fond of the bamboo chutes. It tasted a little old/bad/out of a can? Also, the water tasted a tad off. All in all recommend for short meal where expectations are not high.

I’ve come here twice now for dinner with my friends and I am in love. It is a very standard dinner place and YOUCANNOTBEATTHEIRAPPETIZER/COCKTAIL COMBOFOR9DOLLARS!!! I am an avid purchaser of the Thai Spring Rolls with a Coco Bellini! The prices are fairly affordable. The space is a little small but it makes up for it with a) the music and b) the quality of the food. I’d recommend this to anyone in the area who is looking for great food and good deals!

Came in after an awful off broadway show, so was hoping for some satisfaction from the evening and for the most part got it here :). They had an $ 18.95 pre-fix dinner special that came with: A)Soup– I chose the chicken coconut which was probably the best thing I received, but the portion was about ¼ of a cup. I know its a pre-fixe, but dont skimp me on my soup por favor :). B) Spring rolls(2) and a salad– Blehh, Salad was mostly lettuce, some peanut sauce, cucumbers and the spring rolls were run of the mill. C) Chicken Pad Thai– Yum Yum, yes quite good with the noodles having a great savory flavor and the chicken avoiding the over cooked curse many Thai restaurants in the city like to place on them. D) Desert– A hearty scoop of green tea ice cream, a surprise finish to an overall satisfying meal. Service was good enough, wait wasnt that long and the waitress did her job dilligently. Next time im in midtown Id give this place another shot, and perhaps order a full size soup :).

This review is about their $ 18.95 prefix dinner. We were drawn in by this special. The first option I chose was the chicken coconut soup. It reminded me of one I used to get a Boyd Thai but it wasn’t as spicy. I actually really enjoyed it, although the portion was small. Next, you get a combo plate of 2 spring rolls with a Thai Salad. The salad is mostly lettuce and not that fufilling but the spring rolls were delicious. Afterwards, it was on to the main course, which I chose as Chicken Pad Thai. You can judge a Thai place pretty quickly from this option and they nailed it. The noodles had just the right consistency and there was enough meat to keep me satisfied. For dessert, I opted for the fried bananas. This was an interesting creation, bananas baked into a normal spring roll type of shell. Maybe not as good as fried plantains from a Colombian restaurant, but certainly an interesting adaption. This place seems to have mixed reviews. It could possibly depend on what you order, but of all my friends were satisified. For that, I would consider this a viable Thai option in Hells Kitchen after a show! They also had a $ 3 Thai beer special, which if I was in a drinking mood I would have certainly taken advantage of.

To all the people who’ve been rating this establishment with three or more stars: I do not trust you, and I think your sense of taste is seriously troubled. Yum Yum Bangkok has the most disappointing Thai food I’ve ever had in my life, not exaggerating here. The only reason I stopped in was because I couldn’t figure out why there were numerous locations for the same restaurant and I had to see what the hell was going on. Plus, I’d just arrived from Thailand a week earlier, so I was kind of missing the flavors of home. This specific location doesn’t have much to offer when it comes to ambience, so my boyfriend and I chose to sit outside as it actually included some kind of interesting view. The servers weren’t the best, speaking quickly and not really listening to what we were saying. At multiple points I had to call out for them in Thai just to get their attention. I was pretty distrustful of the food just based off of a first glance of the menu. Edamame? Guys, that isn’t even Thai. That’s Japanese. And curry rice? What the heck is that? Cus I’ve never had that in Bangkok. We have curry, and we have rice, but a combination of the two? We decided to order steamed mussels for our appetizer and that was the only palatable part of our meal. My boyfriend enjoyed them, I was having issues considering their flavor profile was all over the place. A proper Thai dish is supposed to be a blend of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors. It’s our«umami». But this mussel app was mostly just sour and spicy. At least they had put a hearty portion of mussels in the dish, one positive thing from Yum Yum. For our mains my boyfriend got the #6 entrée, the chicken with chili sauce and white rice. I got the pad thai with pork. I was initially going to go for the green curry, but because I wanted to have a proper judge of this establishment I decided to get the pad thai as it’s a dish I know very, very, VERY well. To the point where just upon smelling it I’ll know if it’s done right or not. Firstly, my boyfriend’s order. I am fairly sure it wasn’t a traditional Thai dish. It kind of reminded me of a Chinese orange chicken? That fake sweetness and sticky sauce, y’know what I mean? At least orange chicken can taste good, but this thing was a mess. And I’m pretty sure the sauce base was ketchup. I actually hadn’t noticed it initially, but once my boyfriend pointed it out it was ALL I could taste. That«chili sauce» is definitely made with ketchup and it’s HORRID. He actually gave up on eating his dish after a certain point and just started filling up on white rice. As for mine, it was also on a similar level of awful. The pork they were using was definitely not the freshest and I was actually worried that I would get sick later in the evening. And whatever wok they were using had definitely been burned, my entire dish tasted like char. There was barely any peanut or egg flavor, just that weird burnt taste. I actually had to ask for several lemons to try and make it palatable, but in the end I wound up barely finishing half of my dish. Yum Yum made us lose our appetites, and for me, a sense of pride in my home country. How, as fellow Thai’s, could you let food like that go out to customers? HOW!?! By the time we had gotten our check I had taken to catching the eye of every person who looked interested in the establishment and shaking my head«No». I don’t understand how this single restaurant is afloat, let alone three more of them.

I’ll give this place TWO stars. One for the interior design and another for being so close to the 7 train. I should give them another star for being so quick to clean our table, give us the check, and trying to kick us out. I get it. We are not drinking… so get out. Anyways, my friend got the Pad Thai and I got the curry puff… I was too full from the other foods I ate! I appreciate Thai food. I love it actually! However, that should’ve been called a mush ball. Come on! I’m coming back on more time and hopefully my review will change!..

My boyfriend and I love walking down 9th to see which restaurant to eat at. We noticed Yum Yum because there were three of the same store pretty much right next to each other. We laughed for a bit and were a little confused as to which one was the main store/best one and decided to enter the first one. The restaurant was not packed at all and we got to sit on the outside. The restaurant is pretty clean and there was only one waiter. We were really craving Tom Yum Soup so we got a bowl for each of us and a Papaya Salad to share for appetizers. We then got a Pad See Ew w/beef and Pad Kee Mao w/Chicken. I’m not sure why but it took a little while for our food to come out but the waiter was really on top of pouring water for us. I really liked the soup and felt that it was worth the price. The papaya salad was good too but the bottom was really soaked in sauce so it got a little too strong in flavor. When the entrees came, we were both hungry and dug in immediately. I found that my Pad Kee Mao started out great(a little spicy) but got WAYY too oily at the end. I couldn’t even finish it because I was so put off by the oil. My boyfriend had a less oily time with his Pad See Ew but I’ve tasted better at other restaurants. All in all, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this restaurant because there is a better Thai restaurant across the street(Obao).
