I’m giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 because the normal menu is very limited. They don’t serve a full soul food menu every day. Only on Sundays and certain days when there’s a special. Luckily the 2 times I went they were serving soul food. And it’s amazing! Probably the best soul food I’ve had at a restaurant. If they made this their core business and served it every day they would get 5+ stars from me. The name of this place is fitting because they really have something here that’s good and has the potential to be great. Friendly service and great food. The owners Peggy and Mrs. Carter are great and very welcoming. They say once you’ve been there once, you’re family. Being a BYOB is a plus as well. Everything I’ve eaten here is good. I’ve had both Whiting and Catfish here. Both are smack your momma good. The potato salad is like you died and went to heaven. And my favorite dish, Mac and cheese is one of the best I’ve had. Finding a good place for soul food is like finding a needle in a haystack. Luckily I found this place and will go back. Often. If you like good eats, come here on Sunday.

I must say i was NOT disappointed in the service of the food. A nice spot to eat and relax without LOUD music drowning out your conversation. Food was well prepared and remember if want fast food that taste like it came from a can then go to Applebee’s or if you have tastebuds and want a well prepared restaurant meal in a great atmosphere then come here. Remember well prepared food takes time

Everything we had was good. The seafood special, Asian wings, cole slaw, Baked mac n cheese, the cabbage. Even my Gmom was on the cabbage. The sangria! I don’t know what they spiked it with, but I’ll say a glass and a half is enough to loosen all your muscles. Wait staff is nice, chef came out and said hello/made sure everything was good, someone even came out and sang a jazzy happy birthday to the birthday girl. We had an early dinner, but as we were leaving it looked like they were setting up for live music. Very affordable good food, nice environment. Will definitely be back!

Although it did take quite sometime to get my food, it was definitely worth the wait. Also taking into consideration how packed it was, the waiters were very hard working and assuring us on the status of our meals along with the owners of the restaurant. The food selection was very affordable. We brought our own LQ that evening and the atmosphere of the karaōke DJ and those singing was absolutely entertaining. Looking forward to another evening here.

I visited for dinner on a Friday evening, which happened to be karaōke night. I had high expectations for the restaurant, especially it being Jay-Z mom’s restaurant. Upon entering, it was pretty tight since they had a stage set up for karaōke and the tables were pretty close together. The service was very slow, I was waiting nearly 45 minutes for my entrée and the music was really, really loud from the karaōke. I thought the place was quite pricey considering the fact that the menu is simplistic. I order the fried chicken dinner, which came with macaroni & cheese and a cabbage medley. The food was awesome, but the one thing that I couldn’t get over(and mostly the result of the low stars on the review), was the fact that everything was served in plastic: plastic utensils, plastic plates and cups. For the amount of money people are spending on the entrees, nothing should be in plastic. I really enjoyed the food so I would like to give the place another chance, but they need to improve on the slow service and get rid of the plastic. Also, parking is a chore there!

Stop by for a bit a few Saturdays ago it was very quiet in the restaurant. There may be about two other people that was there, older guest 60+. One of the older gentleman that was there was 80 years old. The waitress was very nice. Once we reviewed the menu, I was a bit confused I was expecting more of a soul food restaurant food, but the menu portrayed more of a brunch type menu. We asked if they had another menu but she said that was their menu for lunch and dinner. So we ordered a fried fish dinner and a grilled chicken panini. Overall we were expecting more from this restaurant since they call themselves a soul food restaurant but the food was very Ok. The fish was fried very nicely and the panini ok. Price wise I think they’re a bit pricey for the food they offer, they don’t offer any type of refills on drinks and the food is quite on the pricey side. Overall the people are nice the food is okay! Would I go back again: Probably not

Unprofessional staff. There is no host. Servers don’t know the menu. The server forgot our order which we reminded him 10 minutes after we ordered. I paid the check but did not receive a receipt ! The food was good though. I would have liked at least 8 – 10 wings for the order price. We only got 7 shrimp with the appetizer also.

Tonight my husband and I enjoyed an evening at Diamondz N Da Ruff. The fish sandwich was fantastic! The french fries were real potatoes not processed. The Sangria had the right about of kick to it and Karaōke was the icing on the cake. The patrons and waitstaff were super friendly. Parking is an issue… lack of and they ran out of food early in the evening even with that I would definitely go back. I think, I will try the breakfast next.

I saw an article about this spot opening up on , and I thought I’d check it out just to say I went to Jay-Z’s mom’s restaurant. If you aren’t familiar with Newark, it’s easy to get to, it’s right off Route 21. The menu is fairly simple, two sides: one for breakfast 8 – 12, another for lunch after 12. It’s a simple lunch menu, some sandwiches, salads, etc. I went with the beef sliders — and I was surprised how excellent these were. First they are slightly larger than your average slider. You get two, which is more than enough. They came out sizzling, and they tasted incredibly fresh. I used ketchup on my first one, but the taste of the burger and the small amount of sauce that came with it were so good that I had no need to add ketchup to my second. The staff is extremely friendly. They were attentive, and checked in on me several times to see how I was doing, and if I needed anything. Very nice interior. It’s a spacious place, especially compared to other local options in Newark. Nicely decorated, with a stage that appears to be for music/entertainment at night. Prices were a little high($ 10 for sliders, $ 15 if I wanted fries and coleslaw), but for a fairly upscale establishment in this area this was to be expected, and the food was definitely worth it. I plan to return to try other menu items.

My experience at Diamondz N Da Ruff was very disappointing. The staff was very unprofessional. We stood at the door waiting for someone to help us to no avail. Finally, someone asked us if we were there to eat(duh) as they continue to walk pass us and then instructed us to sit anywhere. We sat there for about 5 mins No, menu, no water or welcoming smile. So we decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. I will not be back.

I’ve been twice and I love it! The beef sliders are the best sliders I have ever had in my life. All the food is delicious, but the sliders are the absolute best. Really nice lounge, good location, great food, friendly staff and amazing service. Also BYOB& Karaōke on Fridays!

Came here for breakfast and dinner. They’re open at 7am and service was good. You’ll wait a bit for the food but it’s worth it. Very professional. I hope this place is a big success. We need a nice lounge on this side of Newark.
