Much easier than one on Ferry if you are driving to the egg custard pie destination! This place has a designated parking spot and easy to park, Of course, the egg custard is awesome.

If I was just rating the custard cups a 5 star rating would be warranted. Came here today and picked up 6 of those babies — delicious! Knocked off 1 star because I got a Boston Crème donut which was fair. Daughter got a Chicken Empanada but as of this writing she did not eat it yet. Will definitely be back for the custard cups! Bakery is spotless and all the ladies behind the counter were extra friendly. Don’t forget to tip these hard-working ladies!

I have not been to the store, but I had my cousin pick up bread for our thanksgiving dinner from here. The rolls made me want to be a better person. They were dense on the inside, but very fluffy. Crisp exterior surface that was delicious and easy to bite through. I found myself eating 4 rolls before even going to the turkey. Maybe it was the butter that I put on top, but probably not. These bread rolls were bangin.

My go-to spot for some pastéis de nata, which are almost as good as having the ones from Lisbon in Belem. My sister and brother in-law used to live just a block away, so it’s been my preferred Teixeira’s Bakery location. It’s easier to get here(off route 1&9) and I can always find a parking spot on the street and never encounter any long lines. I was just here recently and it seems like they even added a parking lot across the bakery(on Kossuth). If you’re unfamiliar, their building is right at the corner of Kossuth & Magazine Streets. The entrance is along Magazine St.

I was on a hunt for a nice birthday cake, this was my 4 store, but 2nd store I bought from. This is a very fragrant bakery. The place is clean and well lit. There are a variety of breads and cookies. I came for a cake… not a lot of selections. But what cakes were there were nicely decorated. The staff was nice, helped me choose a cake, wrote my message on the cake beautifully, and told me to call for future cake orders. The cake I got was strawberry and custard filled between the layers of cake. At the store, it was explained to me as a strawberry custard cake and I left thinking there wasn’t any cake, just custard and strawberries. I said to myself, people should try new things, so I bought it. When the cake was cut open, there was yellow cake! Good thing. As for the taste, the cake tastes good. Cake was a bit on the dry side… Custard and strawberries were good, not too sweet. Strawberries were from a can, not fresh, which is ok for the cake. The icing was hard-ish, so it was easy to peel off. So this review is based on the cake. I may order cakes in the future and not take one out of the display case. Maybe the cake will be moist. I will go back to try the breads and cookies!

Absolutely delicious baked goods, home made soups, and incredible service. The line is always out the door so I recommend calling ahead with your order. The egg custards are amazing. I tried the vegetable soup, which is served with a fresh Portuguese roll and is very delicious, hearty, and filling. The chicken turnovers abs the shrimp turnovers are incredible and sell out fast so get there early. A must go if you’re in the area!

Tiexera’s is in the heart of the Iron Bound section of Newark. It’s a wonderful bakery always hustling and bustling with clientele and always oozing scents of fresh doe and coffee. Their Portuguese rolls and fresh beads are delicious, but the mini custard pastries and various sweets they offer are my personal favorite. Whatever Portuguese goods you want from bread to empanadas you’ll find it here!

There’s a free parking lot here which makes it a more desirable location compared to the one on ferry street. I am sad to report that prices had gone up by a lot! 6 custard cups are now $ 7 not $ 5. Individual ones are 1.25 not 1. Still worth eating despite my sad wallet

Oh how great it is to walk in a bakery and smell bread coming out of the oven! Great bakery! Everything very fresh and delicious! You get your bread still warm. Staff is friendly. Coffee is amazing!

All the locals know, or should know by now, that this is where you go to get fresh bread and pastries. Portuguese custard cups, also known as pasteis de nata, are well known for being the best here. They are the closest to the original, pasteis de Belem, that I’ve ever tasted! Bottom line, you’d be a fool to buy your custard cups anywhere else.

Growing up in Newark I took for granted how easy it was to find great custard cups and Portuguese rolls. Now living in California, I always look forward to visiting my family in NJ, both to see them and of course enjoy some deliciously authentic baked goods from Teixeira’s Bakery! The custard cups are absolutely perfect. My college friends always looked forward to visits from my family because that meant delicious custard cups were also coming. When my roommate TJ heard they were coming«Oh god…» was all he could mutter. When my parents moved out of Newark, they even got our American neighbors hooked on custard cups; our neighbors’ toddlers also look forward to my visits because there are guaranteed custard cup deliveries! I love bread, but Portuguese rolls are one-of-a-kind. I grew up on sloppy joes prepared on Portuguese rolls; they were the backbone of my lunch through most of elementary school! A toasted, buttered Portuguese roll with a glass of soymilk is my go-to breakfast when I visit home. Really, anything on a Portuguese roll transforms into something infinitely better. Growing up, whatever we had for dinner would quickly be put into a Portuguese roll and it always resulted in a delicious sandwich! My parents don’t live in Newark anymore, but fortunately both of these Portuguese staples can be stored for up to a week. Throw the custard cups in the fridge and freeze and the bread, and you’ll never be without these gifts from the culinary gods.

Dammit. All I can think about are custard cups, and I’m completely full. But there has to be room for another half dozen or so. Their other stuff is OK. I made the mistake of eating the custard cups first. So everything else just tasted ordinary. I think I yelled at someone for not being perfect. I’m still in a custard-induced haze. I can’t reduce the number of stars because I am seriously contemplating driving 25 minutes each way just to have 3 more. This isn’t right.
