Enjoyed a long, leisurely date night dinner. Pear martini was delicious to start with. Food was amazing and artfully presented. Had scallops with scrumptious potatoes. Hubby’s duck was superb(though wild rice was a little underdone and bland). Desserts were very yummy. Service was friendly and timing of bringing out food was just right. Wish there were more windows or outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful evening, but otherwise a very nice experience. We hope to be back soon.

The food was excellent and the service was very good… However, it was hard to really enjoy the evening because the lighting in the dining room is terrible. The light fixtures are dated and do not feel the design of the room. The light bulbs are the exposed kind, they are much too bright, cast a lot of glare giving the room no ambiance at all. I would live to see the fixtures replaced with light fixtures that make it a more inviting space.

Ate Spicy Chicken sandwich special with a salad plus desert. The desert was made of chocolate brownies with a sweet filling between the top & bottom. The brownies were covered in chocolate with a heavy whip cream on top. Everything was really great. I’d go back.

Everything was so good! The waitresses were all nice(despite hostesses being a little less than enthused about work) and they were very accommodating with recommendations. I want to go back for more of the smoked salmon spread, beef skewers, and bacon asparagus!

Terrible rude service, not kid friendly, far better places to choose when far superior food! Stopped in for happy hour and the entire place is empty but will only seat you at bar but with my four year old daughter cannot and refuse to offer us a table, we walked out and will never return. Food here in past visits is OK but very expensive and there are far better options for similar prices.

Had the single plates and a wine flight. Great food. Nice atmosphere. We were the only ones in the restaurant for a late lunch so we had great service. Good place for real food in wine country.

This place is a gem. Food is great, prices are very low. We stumbled across this place by accident on our way back to Portland. Much to our surprise the food was wonderful, plated creatively and our service was great. I would recommend it.

This is a little restaurant tucked down in the bottom of a very small strip of shops in Newberg. Easy to miss, but you should take the time to visit. Food was very good, atmosphere and décor were very cool. Servers were knew their stuff and were pleasant. Would visit again.

I certainly will never go back to this cave with cavemen and women working there. Very disappointing service in a SERVICEINDUSTRY. subterra should just be called subpar. Drops the mic

The servers were mildly grumpy, hurried, impersonal and unhelpful. The food was lackluster at best, downright cheap and flavorless at worst. It was unbelievably loud(even the server seemed frustrated by the decibel level). The clientele was all older folks. The staff acted like we were from another planet when we tried to use a third-party gift certificate to pay — it was a little confusing, but instead of helping us figure out what was going on(and reading the certificate) they just acted like we were trying to scam them or that we were mental institution escapees. Overall, I felt unwelcome and unimpressed. I am disappointed because I live in Newberg and want to support our local restaurants, but Subterra made it easy to confidently say: I won’t be back. $ 300 that could have been spent on an amazing meal at Ruddick/Wood or Recipe.

Our experience was completely marred by terrible service. We ordered several small plates including the salmon spread, goat cheese puffs, and oysters on the half shell; all were good but unremarkable. The coconut curry soup was flavorful but, again, unremarkable. From the homemade bread, to the steak, scallops, etc. that we ordered as entrees, we were continuously unimpressed and consistently felt that the waitress was quite condescending. The only noteworthy dish was the pot de crème but it’s hardly worth visiting a restaurant just for dessert… I visited with a group that works in and understands the wine industry extremely well and they were pleased with the wine list. I’d recommend Ruddick/Wood for a far more pleasant experience because though it isn’t a ‘fine dining establishment’ so much as a pub, I’d rather feel welcome and comfortable while eating great food than judged and fidgety while eating mediocre food.

Pleasantly surprised at how great the food is here. It’s fine dining, but you will definitely be full when you leave. I’ve eaten here twice and the food has been excellent both times. I highly recommend this place for a nice romantic dinner.

Came in early afternoon. Seemed liked maybe they weren’t expecting people for lunch. Only one server doing the best she could, but definitely not sufficient for the crowd. VERY slow service and dishes coming out extremely slow. Menu looks good, but can’t comment on taste as we are still waiting 30 minutes after ordering for our food — which is just a sandwich and a «small plate»! Update after food: After 45 minutes food arrived. I had the butternut risotto and«begged» to have them add chicken — I guess they were okay accommodating me because we waited so long. It was very filling and sweet — good texture, but not really great if your looking for a balanced main dish. My husband got the Cuban sandwich which was okay. Not much meat and wasn’t very warm — also not grilled like you’d expect for a Cuban. We listened as the server told one table they could only get bread for lunch if there were leftovers from last night as they make it fresh everyday — these people were asking for bread because they were waiting forever for their food, too. Also, the server kept telling different tables about items/ingredients they just ran out of — it was a Saturday at 1pm — how are you running out already??? After the super long wait for service, the cold temperature inside, and food being just okay(at least not making up for everything else), we won’t be back. It’s too bad, because it could be really good and quaint!

High quality dinning! Excellent Bar service with fresh ingredients and presentation. We were very surprised and pleased with our entire experience. I think this was one of the rare times I didn’t use salt or pepper and the flavor so were outstanding. We went with another couple and we pretty much sampled everything. The waitress and Bartender stood out as superior.

Cool vibe and ambiance in this place! We stopped for lunch after golfing in the area, but I can see where this could be a romantic spot if you came back at night. The bar wasn’t that large and seemed to be used for wine tastings as well, so not sure how the bar area would work at night… Hubby had a Bloody Mary and said it was really good. I had the fish tacos which were really light and fresh and made for a great lunch. They used a lot of greens, which gave it a nice crunch. Hubby had the Cuban sandwich and enjoyed it. The portion sizes were plenty without being too much and the prices were reasonable. The food was excellent and well worth a visit!

Oh my… This is a wonderful place in Oregon wine country. We rode the motorcycle across the beautiful landscape and stopped here for lunch. The crispy pork belly is INSANE. Also had the special heirloom tomato salad which was so fresh and yummy, as well as the turkey sandwich — one of the best o have ever had. The beef stew was also truly amazing. Everything is made from scratch and the ingredients are super fresh. They also have an amazing wine selection(duh). Please try this place, you won’t regret it!

I visited Subterra as part of a family reunion. I was really looking forward to it. It was good — especially the curried tomato soup — but it wasn’t great. I had a variation of a seafood stew that was really under seasoned. Another member of the group said the same about it as well. While I can’t say it was an unpleasant experience, it wasn’t as memorable as I’d hoped.
