We have been comic to Sushi Oaks on and off for years now. Haven’t been in a few years because they aren’t very customer friendly. Decided to give it a try on my hubby’s birthday since he was craving sushi and it was close to work. The menu has changed a lot since we last went, I seem to recall them being more authentic a few years ago. The menu situation was also a little confusing because the paper menu they hand to you isn’t everything they have. The lunch special was only on the chalk board at the entrance which we didn’t notice until we were leaving. There were specials on different boards by the sushi bar. We ordered some sushi and sashimi and waited for 15 minutes for the last dish but it just never came. We ended up canceling that order and leaving a little hungry.

Solid spot for some lunch sushi. Prices a bit too steep on some usually basic rolls. Like a philly for $ 14. Cmon now. Everything does come out quick and tasted great. I would skip the rainbow roll. But I really liked the deluxe albacore. That was my favorite of the 3 rolls me and my coworker had. Also the pink Cadillac roll was good. If I remembered the name right. Overall good spot for lunch. Slightly pricey. Was packed for lunch so tells you this place is solid.

This rate is strictly for takeout ONLY. I went in person to order sushi, I ordered 3 rolls. They said it would take a half hour to 45 minutes to make. I had to wait more than an hour to finally get the rolls. I recommend to them coming up with a strategy so customers don’t have to wait too long for their food in a takeout situation. I also recommend calling ahead of time to tell them what you want. I tried to find a menu on a website but they were unreadable. That’s why I had to go in person. But after we received the food… the food was excellent.

Owner is extremely rude. Three of the four of us at our table were served our food. It took 20 minutes for the last(of the four of us) to be served our food — an «ichi roll». Server did not come and tell us what was taking so long, or that it was delayed. When we finally got her attention, she claimed the ichi roll takes longer — but 20 minutes??? When we finally received it, we commented that it(the ichi roll) should be free! A couple of minutes later, owner ABRUPTLY come up from behind over the shoulder of someone at our table and yelled«HALFPRICE». So rude and we’ll never go back, which I later calmly told him when I walked up to sushi bar before we left, to which he replied, «I don’t care» — WHICHOBVIOUSLYISTRUE!!!

Fresh, clean, delicious — five stars. I was scratching my head as to why this place only has a 4-star rating but then, as I was sitting there in the middle of the restaurant, enjoying my delicious sushi, I started to understand. I’m not sure if I was an off night for plastic, rude customers but wow… this place was oddly reaching its limit on mean people. So… after hearing the table next to me whine and Argue about not getting what they did order, I now realize why a select few of the local yolkals are potentially a bit tough on this place. Oh, and worth noting, but this same woman who was be-atching about her«wrong roll»…soon realized she was wrong but joked to her mate that she wasn’t going to say anything because«Asians don“t understand apologies». I about fell out of my chair. I’m just a garden variety Anglo from NM but my Ma didn’t raise me like that! So much for being thoughtful and considerate to people — despite their race. Wow. Anyway…I’m sure this was just an isolated person who is more than likely just flat out miserable. Anywho…I really liked this place. Again, the sushi is very very delicious, well made, fresh and clean tasting and I will definitely be back. Here’s a couple close up shots. Enjoy Thousand Oaks!

Sushi was fresh and well prepared BUT the size of the cuts was a rip off. Some of the pieces were literally as thin as a piece of lunch meat. He obviously was cutting corners on fish, but he sure didn’t on the price.

Was recommended this place so we decided to check it out. Within the first 10 minutes of being seated(it was pretty much seat yourself and it was immediate) we already had our food. We got the BK Roll and the Spicy Crunch Tuna Roll. Both were very delicious and the service was super fast and friendly. Will definitely come here again.

Probably the best sushi restaurant in Ventura County, in terms of freshness and fish quality. While the restaurant is small, the lines here are always long. If you want to get in and get out quick, make sure to come right when they open. It really does fill up quick, and once you try their sushi you will understand why. Parking is easy, free, and abundant — no problems there. Service was quick and efficient. The servers were nice, friendly, and attentive. They serve beer here, which is an awesome drink to go along with your meal. Every time I go to this restaurant, I leave 100% satisfied and impressed. The fish here is mind-blowingly fresh, and the flavor of their fish is unbeatable in the area. I highly recommend this place to all sushi lovers. Give this place a try! Even the miso soup was probably one of the best I’ve ever tried!

I dont know how they get 4 stars. This place has the rudest owner who is the sushi chef. If you go there dont plan on getting to sit at sushi bar as he will yell at you and tell you it will be a 40 minute wait if you sit down. He parks his car right in front of a lot that is already crowded, just not a nice person.

Stopped in today when passing by and was glad I did. This place is exactly what I like in a mid-day sushi spot: not fussy but delivers delicious food. I was feeling hungry so I ordered the spicy ramen and sushi. The ramen was delicious — very flavorful broth with an incredibly tender and flavorful slice of pork. Noodles cooked just right. The sushi was fresh and my unagi(cooked eel sushi) was just right — delicate and flaky with that sweet eel sauce. No pics because I was focused on EATING! I’ll be back, and soon.

The best sushi in town! The only downside is that the restaurant is not very big so there may be a bit of a wait. However, the sushi is fresh and the specials are always unique and delicious. The ahi taco special is to die for

Great little sushi restaurant. Was worried about the service since we read some reviews which said the service wasn’t great. Got there on a Friday night at around 6:00. Was seated and right away our server took our drink order. She came back a few minutes later to check on us. Sushi took a bit but nothing ridiculous. The sushi and sashimi we ordered was fresh and delicious. There specials are wonderful. The Mackerel Sashimi was the best. Would definitely go back.

We have been coming here for 16 years and it is always consistent and delicious! Our daughters favorite restaurant since birth. Our favorites are the sear tuna, bk roll, garlic yellowtail and the pink Cadillac roll. We drive here from Agoura Hills because nothing else compares!

My experiences at this place for alway prove phenomenally tasty. The staff on the other hand needs just a few helpful hint. Although they seat you quickly and get you drink order, they never come back to refill your drinks. My sushi chef, Moses always has it down pat. He is good about asking about likes and dislikes, if your sitting at the bar. The best part is how fresh their fish is! The garlic albacore or garlic salmon is a must! The baked green muscle are the best I have ever tasted. I will say they are a little pricey on their specialty rolls, but other than that you can not beet how fresh and yummy they are.

An okay option for lunch, but nothing to write home about. Had their chicken ramen, but for whatever reason, they topped it with grilled chicken, which I wasn’t a fan of, making it kind of tough, and tough to eat in a bowl of noodles. Their sushi rolls were also quite small. All in all, decent but not great. There are plenty of other sushi spots in town to hit up for a mid day meal

I came in on a whim earlier this week and tried one of their lunch specials. I appreciate that they have lunch deals at a very good price — my total came to about $ 12 before tip, for a huge bowl of ramen, some edamame, a roll(with soy paper upcharge) and a soda! The ramen was quite tasty. The edamame was a little warmer than room temperature and the roll was decent, though had a little more mayo than I would have liked. The main downside was when I realized I was late to an appointment and had to leave suddenly, they didn’t offer me any utensils with the rest of my soup I got to-go. It was like 90% of the soup still, and I intended to eat it at my desk back at the office. Thankfully I had my own chopsticks, but I would have expected them to give me a spoon or ask if I wanted one. Good food, decent service. I’d try them again.
