This was my third time coming here as I don’t like reviewing a place until atleast the second visit. First off the service was excellent, my glass of water never got below half full. She was very attentive. Great atmosphere and very nostalgic. Now the BBQ: First the Chopped Pork Plate: A lot of blood vessels in the meat! Very bland tasting as well, I got some of the crust as well, but no smoke line in the meat. They do have a vinegar sauce, kind of you basic S.C. sauce. Now the Stew: Very thick, not really what I believe Brunswick Stew texture should be. It did have flavor, but I had to add alot of sauce to it. Now they do have a lot of other items on the menu and they may very well be awesome, but when I go to a BBQ Joint I want good BBQ. This place just falls short of that in my opinion.

Southerner and BBQ nut, I so wanted to love Sprayberrys, if for no other reason than to honor Lewis Grizzard. Half chicken took 15 minutes, which means to me that they are probably reheating chicken cooked earlier. In any case, the thighs were good and nice crispy skin, but everything else, including the drumstick, was dry as cardboard and almost inedible. The sauce was a nice, middle GA mustard vinegar style and was good if you like that kind of thing(I do). If you like Krafts or KC Masterpiece, you’ll probably hate it. Brunswick stew was finely ground and oddly dry, but not a terrible flavor at all. I’d say it probably consisted of too much meat. The texture overwhelmed whatever positives the flavor had. Giant pet peeve: ordered a large Coke and it came packed with so much crushed ice that I couldn’t put my straw in. Three good draws on it and almost half the drink was gone. Had to pull over, dig had the ice out by hand and go through the drive through for a refill I hope it was better when Lewis ate here

3 words– Lewis Grizzard Special! Get it and thank me later! For around $ 9 you get a large bbq sandwich(chopped or sliced/pork or beef), a small bowl of their infamous Brunswick stew, and a pile of their crispy and oh so delicious onion rings! It’s a gracious plenty amount of food at a great price! This is a simple place, no frills, hometown feel, very clean and a local joint. A group of 10 of us stopped in on a Saturday night around 5pm, on the recommendation of a friend and he did not steer us wrong! Brittany was our waitress and she went above and beyond to serve us, with a smile on her face the entire time. A few extra points about the food– the bbq is vinegar based which I loved but for some it’s a deal breaker. The Brunswick stew is very thick and not extremely appealing visually, but has a wonderful flavor. I am not an onion fan in the least but the onion rings at this place are to die for! For dessert several members of our party had the blackberry cobbler and it was also delicious served with vanilla ice cream. Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from? I had absolutely no complaints! This place has been in business for 89 years– so they must be doing something right! ;)

Friendly service. Everything else needs divine intervention to give it some redeeming value. Pickles taste like artificial sweetener … BBQ was dry, overlooked … Sauce tastes like pure vinegar. Change everything, keep the waitresses.

Fried catfish was excellent — fresh, perfectly fried(light cornmeal batter), great fried onion rings, great hush puppies. Wednesday evening was pretty empty and service was fast and effective. Food was fresh fried as I waited, not long at all. But, getting fired catfish of this high quality would have been worth any wait. Location is on a major thoroughfare with easy in and out.

We were told that this was the Best BB-Q in the town of Newnan so we tried it. The place is in desperate need of a new menu! My husband ordered chicken and it was a prepackaged, flat piece that looked like it came from a bulk bag of frozen chicken at SAMs club. I had brisket and the meat was low quality, which is being kind. The coleslaw was the worst I have ever tasted and the sauce tasted like catsup diluted with apple cider vinegar. It was truly the worst meal I have ever had. No exaggeration!!! THEWORST! We took tiny bites, and only one, paid the bill and got out of that place as fast as we could. We tell people about it because it was so shocking. We travel a lot and eat food from many different places and this was the worst food I have ever eaten. I don’t know how they stay in business. We are building a home in Newnan but we will never recommend or eat here again.

My favorite BBQ joint. I grew up going here. Haven’t been in years, and it is still great! Old school atmosphere. Still served with a slice of white bread.

May have been good back in the early 80’s but now it’s over priced and not that good. I have been to both locations in Newnan GA Service was poor staff was sort or snobby. I would much rather go the Shane’s Rib Shack in Newnan. ALOT better food and Service at the same price.

This is not the best BBQ, but people love Sprayberry’s for the nostalgia and tradition(my Hubby’s been eating here since he was a kid). Not much on atmosphere or over the top friendly service; a no frills joint. I had the Brunswick stew, which isn’t made in your typical style. Theirs is more like chili without many veggies.

Worst BBQ I have ever had. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had a BBQ chicken sandwich. This place is a JOKE. Our meat was so dry and flavorless that I could barely eat it. I am truly amazed that they are in business. Read the reviews. Good luck dining here.

Very disappointed! The Pork was dry and finely chopped up. The sides were mediocre. Not worth the money!

BBQ isn’t that great. I decided to stop in after seeing the sing on 85 many times in my travels. I ordered the Lewis Grizzard special, the pulled pork was ok but the onion ring were just plain batter, the Brunswick stew was basically a can of sloppy joe mix in a bowl. I really don’t understand how this place stays in business compared to the likes of Sonnys BBQ(which really isn’t that great either). Many better BBQ places out there.

Let’s be clear. If you go don’t like vinegar BBQ sauce, get the fried chicken. They only do one sauce, and it is eastern Carolina meets GA. We got the combo plate; I preferred the beef to the pork and found it more flavorful. The mac and cheese was quite good. The potato salad is homemade; a little heavy on the sweet pickles for my taste, but again a matter of preference, not quality. Not one I’d make a special trip for, but if I’m in the area I’d go back.

This is the real southern BBQ. Most people thet gave negative reviews are looking for the BBQ they can get at Applebee’s or some other chain! This place is the real deal!

I walked in and the hostess was on her cell phone. Took way too much time for her to finish her text. Sandwich was underwhelming and ambiance was non existent.

Last time I was in town a friend recommended we try this place. She’d lived here for a decade and while she didnt eat bbq she’d hear it was the best in town. If this is the case, someone needs to open a new BBQ spot because you could make millions because if this is the place to beat it wont take much to do so. This is one of the worst BBQ joints I’ve ever eaten at and Ive been to hundreds and thats no exaggeration. While the service was wonderful and the sweet tea rocked the pulled pork and heavy vinegar dressing wasn’t consumable. We took a few bites asked for the bill and left. Even places like Shane’s Rib Shack and Sonny’s are better. There’s good value here if you can stomach the excess watery vinegar which in these parts might be a favorite pastime but anyone that knows good bbq doesnt put a stamp on this place or even eat more than a few bites. Its that bad, sadly.

Sprayberry’s offers good barbecue and great service. I had a bowl of stew and a pulled pork sandwich and it was great. I don’t know why this place has bad reviews, maybe those customers had a different experience than me. Plus I hungry after flying to Atlanta from San Diego and i was happy to find this place. I’m no barbecue expert but I know what taste good!

‘Tis a pity but Sprayberry’s lost their way, and their recipe. Weak ice tea, thin runny vinegar-based barbecue sauce instead of the thick tomato type customary in the south and puréed Brunswick stew. I should have read the reviews first.

I was born and raised in the South and in my 33 odd years I believe I’ve become component to judge BBQ. Up North a BBQ is what the South calls a cook out, these is a big difference. Sprayberry BBQ is a more traditional Southern BBQ using a vinegar base sauce in top of slice or chopped smoked beef or pork. They do serve chicken but these are cooked to order breasts and not whole smoked chickens so the flavor and texture is off for BBQ. The sauce I believe is what throws most BBQ lovers that have never been south if Atlanta they are expecting something with molasses or sugar only to be startled at the tangy flavor paired with the smoked meats. But do not believe for a minute that this preference makes the BBQ inferior it is merely of another breed. The prices are moderate to high for the quantity and product you are served. No matter what you order though you will not feel cheated nor leave hungry. A combination plate for example gives you two meats, two sides, and a roll. My meal consisted of sliced beef and a ½ slab of baby back ribs the meat plate came in at an easy half to whole pound of meat. Beef is served at your choice sliced or chopped. For sides I had slaw and onion rings. The onion rings arrived on a separate plate piled to toppling heights and the slaw surprised me. It was a red cabbage blend with a sweetness vinegar dressing. The slaw stuff into the roll with sliced beef was delicious, so any so topped sandwich on the menu is probably a delight as well. The onion rings were in a lightly battered and crispy without being greasy. The atmosphere is definitely a homey Southern charm and bit faded but not dingy or dirty. Service was fast, friendly, and polite even with two small kids having a fuss. If you enjoy good food and plenty of it and aren’t hooked on sugar sauce give this place a try, otherwise me and the locals will gladly keep a pleasant treasure to ourselves.
