Utopia Restaurant & Bar

My husband and I decided to try out Utopia because we heard that they offered Vietnamese Phở soups, which we really love. From the time we walked in, there was a weird vibe. We were searched before entering the restaurant; We were then seated and placed an order for an appetizer and drinks. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks! It was another 50 minutes before our dinner was brought out (we still had yet to receive our appetizer!), then 20 minutes into our dinner the appetizer was brought to us… We even had to ask for napkins and silverware, but never received them, so my husband had to walk up to the bar area and retrieve them himself. We placed another order for drinks; it took over 25 minutes to get them, then we were stuck waiting on our check for an additional 20 minutes! We were also charged full price for our cocktails when we ordered them during happy hour!!! We did get the drink prices rectified, but that took another 15 – 20 minutes. We were so disappointed because the food tasted really great, but it was truly unbelievable how bad the service was! We will NEVER go back there again, it was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had dining out. Do not waste your time or money going here.

Two nights ago, I had the pleasure of eating at Utopia Restaurant. Someone had recommended to stop by there and try a selection from their menu. First, I was impressed with the variety of appetizers and platters on the menu but especially more because they offered Phở Specialty soups… one of my favorite Vietnamese meals. I ordered the briskets and meatballs soup and it was sooooo delicious. I often eat phở soup at Phở 79 but I must say this place has become my new favorite spot for Vietnamese phở soup.
Regarding the staff, they were all friendly and made me feel very welcomed in their restaurant. I was told by the waitress that they recently opened up and will be making a grand opening celebration next week. They offer various entertainment such as live bands, karaōke, jazz and a salsa dance night. She said they may also start bringing comedian acts for entertainment. This was great to hear for the Newport News area as often times one must travel across the water to get some variety of entertainment. I think Utopia restaurant will become the new happening spot real soon. I highly recommend you check them out now before they get too busy and may have to wait long for a table. =)
