IFYOUAREVEGETARIAN: Get the tempeh tacos. They are the best thing I’ve ever tasted. They have a very similar taste to a fish taco and even one of them was very filling. I will definitely come back just for the tacos.

Sadly, we were really looking forward to this place, but after sitting for 25 minutes the only person who acknowledged us was the water guy. The wait staff who were not busy at all, in fact were spending time chatting with each other, never once came to our table. We left and hope the next group at our table had better service.

This is the second time we have been to Local Ocean. According to my memory we loved it. On our follow up visit we were a little less in love. We stopped in for lunch in mid June on a Wednesday. The bay front was packed as was Local Ocean. They found us a table immediately though. The small eating area is tight and bustling, there is a large eating area upstairs that some may not know about. It’s considerably larger, quieter and can off a nice view of the bay. I’m gluten sensitive so it’s nice they offer a gluten free menu. My wife and I both had the fish and chips for $ 16. Hers was regular, mine was altered to eliminate the likelihood of gluten. The regular fish and chips are good. You get one large piece of panko coated fish, seasoned fries and coleslaw. Unfortunately my de-glutened was a little disappointing. Instead of panko encrusted mine was grilled. Not a huge deal but, my piece of fish was smaller than my wives. Instead of fries, which are lightly coated in a maybe a gluten laced seasoning I had grilled vegetables. These were a little to al dente for me and lacked seasoning. We remembered really liking the coleslaw but this time not as wild about it. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. Still a great place for lunch or dinner. It is highly unlikely you won’t really like this place. PS parking can be a bitch.

We tried this restaurant twice when staying in Newport on the recommendation of friends. The fish is well-prepared and fresh, but the sides are very oily and rich. The ambiance is very noisy, so it’s difficult to visit with a partner or friends. Service is friendly and efficient. It’s best to get a reservation, or you’ll wait ½ hour even for lunch. We prefer Saffron Salmon for well-prepared fish, less exotic sides, beautiful view, and quieter ambiance.

Ok at first I thought the restaurant was excellent– the interior was updated and clean the service was on point the food pricey, but initially I thought it was worth it. I had their signature dish the fishwives stew. Then…I GOTSOSICK. I am a physician(MD) and this was severe food poisoning. Invasive, bloody, mucousy diarrhea. This type of illness could have put the elderly or immunocompromised in the hospital. So I paid $ 29 for a meal that left me miserable and out of commission for days. So I really can’t recommend this establishment and I especially don’t recommend the fishwives stew. I watched a show about restaurants once and it makes me wonder if they throw all the fish that doesn’t sell into this thing. That would make sense. AVOID.

Ordered the Halibut crudo — yummy! Garlic and crab soup — MUST Order Crab PO boy — Adding the cheddar cheese makes it a must order! Crab cakes — meh, you can give this a miss. Not worth it for $ 16/$ 17

We had the Crab Po Boy and the Grilled Rockfish Sandwich. Delish! We sat upstairs in the bar, beautiful view of the harbor. We had excellent service.

Wonderful view, very authentic seafood restaurant! It even has the fish market on the first floor. Not your typical fried everything either! Everything fresh and local and the servers steered us in the right direction! Love, love, love!

I loved the dinner we had in Newport! The restaurant was write by the water and had beautiful views. My biggest complaint was the level of noise in the restaurant. I got the Dungeness crab and garlic soup and it was sooo good! I also got the Niçoise salad. The tuna steak on the salad was the best tuna I have ever had! It was so fresh and melted in your mouth! I was disappointed in the rest of the salad. It was over dressed and the potatoes were soggy. The tuna makes up for it though. My friend got the halibut crudo Overall I would definitely recommend coming here for dinner in Newport.

Friendly service. They were busy with a wait, but it was just me so I asked to sit at their kitchen bar table which faces the open kitchen. It was a cool seat where I got to watch all the cooks working to prepare the meals. Everything I saw get plated and served looked amazing. I’ve read their fish & chips is really good, but I was in the mood for crab, so I opted for the Dungeness Crab Po’Boy with added Poblano Peppers. It had a really nice flavor. Enjoyed the food and the experience. It could become a regular on my drives along the coast.

I was WRONG! I am going back to my original 5 star. I got a message from a local fisherman re: the commercial halibut season. Halibut season(right now) is only for non commercial fishermen. So head your butts to local ocean for all that’s fresh and delicious! You won’t be sorry!

Colleen took me here for the first time. She ranted about how wonderful the garlic and crab chowder was. She nailed it. We showed up right at the beginning of the dinner service and got a table right away. Staff was great.

I was visiting the other weekend with my family and they suggested we stop by Local Ocean Seafoods for a delicious bite to eat — after ogling the menu and drooling on myself a bit, I was so glad they did. Each and every dish is fresh to order and absolutely delicious — from the Oyster Shooters and Fish Tacos to the Seared Albacore Kabobs and the Roasted Garlic + Dungeness Crab Soup. And if you don’t have time to eat, you can always shop your way to happiness in the connected fish market. The waitstaff is incredibly helpful, quick and kind — and on a good day, you can see right on down the harbor. For anyone visiting Newport Harbor, I highly recommend LOS!

Fishwives Stew: I would order this stew again if I were to go back to this restaurant. It cost $ 29 but it is loaded with seafood. The soup was a little bit on the blend and part side and could use a little bit more salt. The bread that accompanied the soup was very good. Garlic and crab soup: this is also a very delicious soup. I am not sure it is worth $ 7.50 for a cup though.

Superb local seafood. Cozy atmosphere with great view of the harbor in Newport. Great service and fresh locally caught seafood. I ordered salmon for entrée and steamers as an app. Enjoyed both very much.

Seafood does not get better than this! Never had I had such delectable Fish and Chips, and Dungenes crab. The view at the harbor is also lovely. Later, you can talk a walk on the docks and hear the seals chatting away.

This restaurant has outpaced the nearby Mo’s as the must visit eating destination in the area. We were lucky to come on a day that was not too busy. I had gone through many of the pics online, and already knew that I wanted both the garlic crab soup and the fishwive’s stew. Hubs got his usual po boy(crab). Garlic Crab Soup– This came out first and was delicious. Most of the meat was shredded at the bottom of the bowl. If I were being picky, I’d say that it’s a touch salty and more meat wouldn’t have heard. Still, this was the highlight of the meal. 8⁄10 Fishwive’s Stew– Very impressive being that it’s chock full of seafood. However, the pics on Unilocal make the bowl appear larger than it actually is. You get quite a bit of crab, large shrimp/prawns(?), large chunks of fish, small local shrimp(more like salad shrimps), clams, scallops… I know I’m likely missing something. Unfortunately, the fish chunks were overcooked and some of the scallops looked desiccated. The tomato based broth had a light fish flavor, but aside from that was extremely bland. The best part of the dish was the delicious crab meat. 6⁄10 Crab Po’ Boy– When this dish appeared at the table, I was confused. Who had replaced our po boy with a finger sandwich? If it had been delicious, that would’ve salvaged the dish somewhat, but it wasn’t. The redeeming quality of the dish was that a generous amount of crab(in proportion to the small sandwich size) was given… that and the few fries given were fried crispy. I would not recommend this dish. 4⁄10 Service was fine. The girls there did the best they could. The bill with tip came out to a little over $ 60. I’ve had better food with larger portions for lower prices elsewhere. So this was an overhyped experience for me.

Fish taco. Oyster shooter. ½ dungeonous crab. Homemade ice cream. All excellent! Pricey but worth it. The best part was sitting at the bar overlooking the kitchen crew who were so focused and working their magic to feed the seemingly endless hordes of customers. This is a place I look forward to visiting again in a future trip to Oregon.

Loved the view, food and their service. We started with dozen oysters, served chill and fresh. Asian salad was super. I loved every bite of the dish. Portion was big and the sauce was really good too. Fish wives stew was tasty too. Wish it was served hotter but was still good. Quarter of crab, few clams, few big shrimps, small shrims and good size fish meat mixed in tomato stew and cooked just right. It cannot be bad right?

The BEST seafood dinner I’ve had on the Oregon Coast so far. 5 stars for sure. Newport apparently has a great food scene, and if you want an amazing dinner, go to Local Ocean Seafoods. It’s both a restaurant and small market. It gets packed at dinner time, so either make reservations, or go at a decent hour, otherwise you may be waiting a while. Prices are on the higher end, but you get what you pay for: big portions and excellent quality ingredients and taste. Recommendations: — Garlic Crab chowder: this was a creamy and satisfying bowl of chowder. The crab was not insignificant shredded crab meat either, they put in full, intact pieces of fresh crab leg. — King Salmon salad with spinach, beats, cheese, whole hazelnuts. This was a big salad packed with great ingredients and flavor. Textures came together nicely. Very well executed. — Fishwives’ Stew: If you want a great ensemble of fresh sea food, get this dish. it’s pricier at about $ 29, but very worth it. You get a few crab legs, scallops, shrimp, fish, clams, and more.
