Around 10 o’clock on a Friday night, after being turned away from Diego’s, we were happy to find the Red Parrot still open and serving dinner. We were seated quickly at a nice cozy table by the window. Though the waitress was not overly attentive, she seemed knowledgable of the menu. The food was decent. I ordered the fish and chips, which was a huge portion! The fries were average and I felt the batter on the fish could’ve used some more seasoning, as it was a little bland for my taste. I definitely used up my tartar sauce! My boyfriend ordered a pasta dish, rasta pasta I believe? It was very flavorful and he enjoyed it. There were plenty of other interesting items on the menu, such as shark bites, that I would love to go back and try next time I am in the area. Overall not a bad experience for a late night dinner, but nothing spectacular to speak of.

I came here around 8pm on a Friday night in August with two friends, and the place was absolutely packed(as to be expected). It was very loud — filled with people drinking and having a good time. We were told the wait would be 15 minutes, but I’d say the buzzer went off in less than 10. We didn’t order any notable drinks, but the food was great… not«out of this world» great, though. Between the three of us we got buffalo chicken tenders, the avocado burger, the jerk chicken meal, and fries. I don’t remember the exact names of these meals(the buffalo tenders were just an appetizer), and their menu online is insanely inaccurate so I can’t check. I’m not sure if I’m just missing something obvious, but their online menu has about eight meals on it and their menu in the restaurant is an actual binder with multiple pages of a wide variety of food. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re in Newport and don’t mind spending a bit on your meal. Just be prepared for a loud, «rowdy» environment. I’m sure it’s not as crazy in the cooler months, but I wouldn’t let the crowds intimidate you regardless. Like I mentioned, we were seated within 10 minutes, and the service was fast/great and so was the food!

Bourbon street burger: very good. Nice flavor Lobster roll: delicious and fresh Kids quesadilla: seriously good. I’ll probably get an adult quesadilla next time Apple and Gorgonzola salad: amazing! Bbq pork sandwich: right amount of Zing in the bbq sauce. Banana fosters cheesecake: not my style but husband likes it. Clam chowder: delicious Came for restaurant week at lunch time. I ordered the apple and Gorgonzola salad with the bbq pork sandwich. The salad didn’t come out so we had to ask the server to bring it. No problem. I understand. We had a lot coming out early with the kids food and a clam chowder. We had issues with the restaurant week bill. Each item was charged individually. Not the end of the world; the server fixed it. My real problem was that we had been out walking beforehand and had gotten coffee. When the hostess seated us, she said we couldn’t have outside food or drinks and she could either throw it away for us or we could finish it outside. Seriously? I’m coming into your restaurant with a cup of coffee. If I had like a beer or something, ok I see the point. But coffee from a coffee shop? No I won’t go outside and finish it. It obviously wasn’t a real problem because I had my toddler’s food from home and no one said anything to me about it. Just weird.

This place was AMAZING!!! We ordered the bucket of steamers. It was sweet juicy and delicious! The entrée I chose was the Grilled swordfish(Amy the waitress recommended it) Was FABULOUS! And to top it all off the Martinis were PERFECT! We did not have dessert because of being SO full. I was even able to have the left overs for lunch today because of the amount of food that was provided. Id like to give a special thanks to all the staff because of the atmosphere they provide you with. Our waitress was sweet, kind, knowledgeable. She did an amazing job. Thank you Red parrot, ** A satisfied customer**

Went to the Red Parrot for lunch on October 23, 2015 –which is not far from the harbor landings on the corner — Thames St. The place is very well appointed inside — classy. We tried fish-n-chips, clam chowder, oysters on the half shell, steamer clams, –all were excellent! Our server — Alex — did an outstanding job! If you go — ask for her! Seriously this place is the Bomb! Get Alex to serve you! Highly Recommended!!!

It was no surprise the find seafood was the food of choice in New England… especially on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in Newport. While out walking late on Sunday we went on the hunt for something vegan-friendly. Thankfully most all restaurants had their menu posted outside. We found ourselves passing one after the other, and then we happened upon The Red Parrot. The restaurant has multiple levels with a bar of each floor. It’s classy with dim lighting, but not too classy that you can’t show up in jeans. While their menu wasn’t posted outside we were quite hungry and figured we’d head inside to give it a whirl. In addition to a pretty vast menu ranging in price, they had a veggie burger, Thai spring rolls, and penne pasta with marinara listed. I had choices! While it said veggie burger any vegan knows that this is NOT a safe bet and you still need to check for eggs and dairy. I’m pretty low key and don’t like to make a big deal so I simply asked if it contained any egg or dairy. The waiter didn’t believe so but he said he’d go check. Moments later he confirmed it did not have egg or dairy and in fact even said, «It’s vegan.» Winner! My husband chose their lobster mac and cheese(a first for him since he had never had lobster prior) and I went with the veggie burger. I was expecting a boca patty but it was a legit veggie burger. I could be wrong but it actually looked handmade as it wasn’t a typically processed/pressed patty, and it contained corn and black bean. Finding The Red Parrot was a pleasant surprise and we’d return again if given the chance.

I went on vacation through 15US States last week and this was my favorite restaurant out of all the ones I visited. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because of slow service. The food was a 5. We were all happy. I got the seafood alfredo and it was huge, savory, the seafood tasted fresh and the alfredo sauce was creamy and freshly made as well. I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. I had to have the kids help me eat it and I still had leftovers for later. They had the chicken wings and they said they were the best wings they’ve ever had as well and thy’re wing connoisseurs. If ever in the area, try them out.

Food is amazing, drinks were just okay. My husband ordered the swordfish to try something new. Upon the waitress’s approval, I got the lobster nachos as my main dish(ya know… ’cause people might judge nachos for dinner since I’m not a small child, but eat like one). Both our dinners were VERY good. Husband loved his beer. I ordered the watermelon martini on the rocks. It was NOT good. To be fair, I’m a picky drinker, but it was VERY sweet… much sweeter than most other fruity martinis I’ve had in the past. Overall a great restaurant though.

Great spot for dinner — especially a late one! The nice part is this restaurant is three floors, the first being the busiest of course and the second is a little quieter, cooler(temperature wise) and there is a bar up there as well. There’s no rush to inhale your food and pay the bill, so you can enjoy cocktails and appetizers and eventually work your way into entrees. Drinks… Stoli Doli is yummy and nicely infused with fresh pineapple. If you’re looking for something fun — and large — go with ‘The Jungle’ which is a 48 oz. mammoth cocktail for two. Fruity jungle punch basically. Sweet but YUM. Food… try the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, they’re made well and tasty but the restaurant needs to come up with an actual sauce for fried green tomatoes — not just horseradish sauce! Onion remoulade would have been a perfect compliment. Dinner, the Calamari Caesar salad is really delicious! Probably some of the best calamari I have ever had; it’s cooked perfectly tender and the spice is right on! The lobster quesadilla is interesting, tasty but different. Might want to consider grabbing a reservation if you’re going during prime time dinner hours otherwise you’re OK to walk in after 8:30/9:00!

Took a break from the beach to come here for lunch. Nice cool AC. Lunch for me here was just meh. I was looking at the sandwich wraps and asked our server what between the coco loco coconut shrimp wrap or the crab cake sandwich. He said go with the coconut shrimp. Why was it meh? It had some flavour, just it wasn’t blow me away amazing how I thought it could be! My wife and daughter had the marguerite pizza and I thought this to be a bit bland also. Maybe it was what we ordered but. I thought the food to be just okay nothing amazing memorable. Service was good… no complaints there. I just wish I ordered something else! Sometimes it’s like this in a restaurant. Probably other items on the menu are quite good. Just my experience wasn’t anything memorable. Family was okay and I’d say overall a 3.5÷5.
