Edited– misunderstanding cleared up. Thank you for the great deal on a used camera.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. It is so rare nowadays to find a store that truly understands what they are selling. When they say that they are a REAL camera store, it is so true. I’ve been going to them for everything for years. Josh, Chris, and Andrew are incredibly knowledgeable. The best thing about them is that I’ve personally seen them treat people who are in to buy their first camera with the same respect and patience as they would a pro. They take the time to talk through everything with you and you will never feel like you are taking too much of their time. Don’t think because they are a speciality store that you are going to pat astronomical prices. Their prices are competitive with online and big box stores. Not only do you get the unbelievable service, you also get the pricing. No matter where you are, it is worth the drive to Newtonville to come to this place!

Brought my film camera because it was missing a button. He helped, and took apart an old camera and took out the part I needed. He replaced my button and didn’t want to charge for it!(he said it wasn’t worth a lot of money) So happy!!! If I need to buy a new camera, or if mine breaks down, I’ll be sure to buy it from here. Thanks!

I visited Newtonville Camera on Saturday 7⁄11 and bought the Nikkor 70 – 200 f/2.8VRII lens. Everyone there was a pleasure to work and talk with. They let me try out the lens in-store and take as many shots as I needed with it before making a commitment. They were willing to chat(on camera matters and other topics) and answer all questions I had. I intend this review to advocate for the small specialty camera shops like this one, which have managed to thrive even in strained economic times. Sadly, these family owned and established brick-and-mortar stores are a dying breed. I like having a place to go to gather, talk about photography matters and get great service. It can be quite difficult to do this with the Internet and online stores. I plan to return there to fulfill future photography needs and desires.

This place is small but it had everything I was looking for. It’s sorta a one-stop-shop and the men behind the counter were very helpful.

As a professional photographer, Newtonville Camera doesn’t fill 100% my needs, but they’re super-helpful within their own scope. They definitely cover the full range of DSLR’s and have a solid selection of Nikon and Canon gear. They have a great selection of mirrorless and know the product really well. They aren’t bogged down by a lot of low-end point and shoots. Their prices are competitive, and I find a clearance deal every so often, too. I’d love to see a rental department and more high-end used gear.

They were the ONLY place to carry the battery I needed for my film camera. They were kind on the phone and very helpful in the store. My new favorite camera shop!

Went there to take passport pictures, which I needed asap, since my passport happened to expire and I am leaving overseas in a few days. All was done in a very timely manner and hey, I actually like my passport picture the first time in my life. All in all, good, nice, neighborly place with very human side: saw some old folks coming in and being called by name! The girl who takes passport pictures knows which country requires what standard for the passport photo(they do vary). You don’t even need to worry about that! Very happy, will come back.

Please do NOT go there for passport photo People were nice in the store. My husband found their camera staff were very interesting. I was there for my Canadian passport photo. He seems to know the rules, but he is not a photographer for sure. I certainly know now how I would look in 10 – 15 years. I’m not asking to have a photo for competition but I need a photo I can look at for next 10 years. Another thing, I saw some where that it is $ 9.99 but I was charged for $ 23 for 2 pictures. Just asked the price at Picture People, $ 14.99 for 4 pictures.

:) I just wanted to take a minute and give praise to the staff at Newtonville Camera. Super nice people here. I’ve been a customer for years, but wanted to share a more recent story. I got a D750 from here and thought I was missing some accessories in the box(the viewfinder cover and the battery charger plug thingy)… so I went back to the store and they gladly and happily replaced those missing pieces, no questions asked. Any other store would have been a hassle, but Newtonville Camera was 100% hassle free. I went home and checked my box again, and I actually did have those pieces, D’oh… so I drove back to the store and gave ‘em back. Anyways, the moral of my story is the staff at Newtonville Camera have the customers best interest in mind. And they are only a short drive away. A short drive is always faster than Amazon Prime’s 2 day shipping(faster by like 1.89 days!). If you have questions, nothing beats speaking with a person vs. reading online reviews(hey wait a minute, THIS is an online review!). High fives to everyone over there, and a gold star to YOU for reading all of my rambling review.

What a great experience! Incredibly knowledgeable. Very helpful. Old fashioned good customer service. I called and explained my repair issue over the phone. I told the man I was planning to mail my camera back to Nikon unless he had a better idea. I described the error message to him over the phone. He told me to bring it in and fixed it himself in fewer than 5 mins. They we talked about flashes. He showed me choices. He had exactly what I wanted in both new and used, and I saved about $ 75 buying the used one.

I’m really impressed with Newtonville camera. I came in the other day a couple minutes before they closed hoping to get a little bit more of a sense of what mirrorless camera I wanted. I’ve been looking for a while and so far had not even come close to making a decision. I didn’t expect to leave(a little over ANHOUR after they close) knowing almost exactly what I wanted and ready to purchase it in the next couple days. The staff members that helped me Kenneth and Christopher, were really great. Aside from staying so long after they could have gone home to help me(someone who didn’t even end up buying anything), they were extremely helpful and explained everything I asked about with confidence. There was no condescension, just detailed explanation. If I didn’t understand something, instead of getting annoyed they were even more motivated to explain it to me.(I later figured out) Kenneth is actually the vice president, which may affect his knowledge/helpfulness but I think(hope!) the rest of the staff is equally as helpful. From what I saw they had a relatively large inventory of in stock equipment, as well as a good selection of used gear that I also plan on looking into. Though I’m not sure how seriously to take the claim, it was nice to hear that they only carry cameras they know are good and reliable, and don’t just push anything on their customers for the sake of a sale. They also have nice promotional sales that make the pricing end up being the same as(or really close to) online so there’s really no reason not to buy from and support the small, independent camera store especially when you can physically test drive the items and have friendly and helpful staff to help guide you in your decisions.

I really want to like Newtonville camera I honestly do. However, like most I echo the customer service aspects. While I’ve seen great reviews for it. I’ve also seen the latter. Upon entering I received no recognition from 3 employees who seemed more concerned with closing shop. The three star review is because I can tell they have a wonderful selection of items, but the customer service is lacking. Which means I can’t comment on the knowledge of the staff.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone into a camera sore, staffed entirely by men, only to have to wait to be served while no one else is being waited on because the employee was too busy talking to another employee and the other employee didn’t seem to get it that a customer was waiting. It happens here. I’ll never go back.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. They helped me pick out the best camera to suit my needs and patiently answered all of my questions. The price of the camera was the same as at large stores like Best Buy, but at Newtonville Camera, I was able to play around with the camera features, so I could leave feeling comfortable that I made a great purchase. I’m so glad to have such a great brick-and-mortar photography shop so close to home!

Researched cameras on amazon and went in to check them out in person. Staff was extremely knowledgable and helpful, without being weird. And most importantly, he was open about pricing and comparing to online. Their prices(for canon rebel t3i and EF-S55 – 250 lens) were the same as amazon, so I bought from them. And the amount of time he spent talking to me(and will in the future when I return and make him teach me how to use the camera) was worth it. And nice. I’m glad I made this my camera depot. Not all their merchandise was able to match online prices, but the important stuff was

I’ve been back a few times since my last review and am loving these guys. When I have a tough question about how to do something they have the answer. I also like how they have a variety of used gear, which no one seems to sell anymore. Go see Jarrid, he’s cool.
