The BEST Cheesesteaks, ever, PA can’t match em… A MUST try!!! I am a local and have been eating here for years, never disappointed!

I just ate a Italian sub for here, being from Pennsylvania originally it was not what I expected. Do not get me wrong it was good just not what I consider a Italian sub. It was very filling though. My major complaint would be that I tried to call a head to place my order(I tried for almost one hour calling) but they had taken the phone off the hook because it was busy? Don’t make sense! The other is you wait for quite a while for your order.

OMG its really amazing. The place was clean and the people are very nice. its that kind of simple place where you feel they rely on the good food not the décor. I ordered the cheesesteak, whole size and I loved it from the first bite :-)

You know those guilty pleasures that you eat hiding out in a closet somewhere? The ones that you hide in your purse, rush into the closet where no one can see you, take it out, look at it lovingly, then totally stuff your face and walk out with the most content smile on your face? This place is EXACTLY that! While I haven’t been to Philly, I’ve had my fair share of Philly Cheesesteaks in California(I know I know, California cheesesteaks are probably the yuppie version of this amazingly flavorful street food, and you’re probably right). This place is legit! When you walk it, it’s nothing special, checkered floor, Philidelphia newspaper clippings on the wall(complete with a pic of Sylvester Stalone as Rocky Balboa!) and amazingly nice people behind the counter. They tell you it’ll be about ten minutes, and you sit down and wait for your food. Then it happens… that magical moment when they call your name to come up and get your sandwich. You get the sandwich, sit down, open the white butcher paper wrapping, it doesn’t look like much, but don’t let that fool you! Then you take your first bite and angels start singing. I’m not exaggerating people! This sandwich is that good! You know what? Enough talk… just do yourself a favor and go get a cheesesteak. Now!

Cheesesteaks are good and it’s the closet thing you’ll get to a real Philly cheesesteak I would know. The staff is cool and good is good

Best Philly Cheese steak since, Ricks closed in Newport News on Jefferson. The place is not fancy, but judging by the wall memorabilia and the amount of customers this place is well establish, ordered a regular cheese steak, sat down and enjoyed a very good sand which. Good food!

Came in here hungry. Got the full sized Philly Cheese Steak and a drink for a little over $ 11. The order took about 7 minutes. The cashier was friendly. It was hot and a lot of food. Definitely more meat than bread. It was a little salty for my taste, and was lacking other spices(maybe if I would have added peppers instead of just grilled onions) but overall it was still pretty tasty. The dining area is nothing to note, lots of Phillies, Flyers and Eagles memorabilia on the wall but that’s about it. Open kitchen so you can see the food being made. So, overall, pretty damn good if you’re looking to avoid fast food but don’t want to spend big bucks on a full meal. Could have been a little cheaper I suppose but I’m cheap so really not that bad.

Moved to other side of building. Super clean! Philly memorable things on walls are cool! Sandwiches are classic and amazing. Bread is good wailing for Phillies too. :) Defiantly will recommend.

I grew up eating here and it is still a wonderful place to grab a sandwich… or a SALAD. While they have the second-best cheese steak in the area(in my opinion!), they also have a more varied menu. Their cheese steaks are cooked fast and fresh, but are not overflowing with meat but still a more generous portion than you’d find at a regular restaurant offering cheese steak on their menu. They also sell tastycake items and homemade brownies and cookies for dessert. Their menu variety makes up for any shortcomings on portions and flavor for me. There is the option for getting any sub as a salad — and it’s an option I use frequently. The salads fill up an entrée-sized square styrofoam container and are amazing! You can get the same toppings for either half or a whole sub, but it’s on the same amount of salad. This is another place with fun décor. The walls are packed with Philadelphia memorabilia so there is plenty to look at while you’re waiting for your order or dining in. I order from here for the sandwiches as much as the salads. Just a great place to grab lunch whether you want to eat healthy or indulge.

I’ve been going to this spot since 1996. The best subs in Hampton Roads. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. They know my name.(That goes a long way with me) They’ve recently moved to a new location. The other end of the shopping center which was a good move. More space with an up date feel. This place is know for its steak and cheese but they make a mean hoagie. I love me a turkey and ham all the way. Please try a hoagie one day. You won’t be disappointed. The meet on the steak and chicken steak are flavored well. I also love the way they build their subs. They mix a lot of the ingredients together. Other places like to layer. It makes a huge difference in taste to me. I’ll continue to come back to this place as long as they’re open and I’m here in the Hampton Roads.

I say this with no animosity or shade towards anyone, but I think that one of the most pretentious things a Unilocaler can do is bash a place because it isn’t located I’m the same area of origin as the food they serve(ex: Sushi not as good as sushi in Japan.). I have been to Philly and I can make some comparisons but ultimately the reason why I like this quaint little sandwich shop is not because of how it stacks up to the sandwich shops in Philly. My mom and I have been going here for years ever since I was a teenager, and it knocks the socks off of any other chain place that sells cheesesteaks(wawa, subway, etc.) in my opinion. The meat and cheese just melt in your mouth along with the soft rolls that they use here, you don’t really even need to add condiments to enjoy the sandwiches here. Have I had a better sandwich in Philly? Yes, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t come here to try what this place has to offer. As for the service I’ve had a couple of rude cashiers ring me up, but to be honest there’s always gonna be one or two no matter where you go. On my most recent visit, the cashier was very lovely, and we even had a conversation about how the shop interior reminded me of Jon’s Rost Pork in Philly. She was telling about how Philly was on her list of places to visit and explained to me how the owner was from Philly as well. It was a nice little convo while waiting for food. All in all, if you want a good sandwich, this is your place. I strongly recommend. PS: The chocolate chips brownies are amazing.

Whoever said this place reminds you of Philly must have been drunk. I’ve had better cheesesteaks at Charleys. which is sad. This was a sloppy mess, completely spicy and not at all like a traditional steak. I asked for onions only, like a traditional steak. they throw on mushrooms and jalapenos :| nasty! Plus to top it all off they’re using yellow American cheese that’s about as authentic as shredded chedder. Bun wasn’t crisp and wasn’t very fresh, chewy mess. Only positive I give it is that they have huge portions and the steak was cooked well. Don’t waste your time on this place!

Really good Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and other stuff. I only go for cheesesteaks that’s what they do best. The chicken philly with bacon was a good substitute if you want a healthier option(leave of the bacon) All in all a good place. The atmosphere isn’t great but the subs are.

I went there at 2:30 today. It was not as busy as lunch would be, about 6 people were in there ordering. I had the 6′ Philly Cheesesteak with light mayo, onions and of course cheese for $ 4.99. They use American cheese not the cheese whiz and the reason behind that is cheese whiz is hard to get from food suppliers in Virginia. The bread was nice and soft and not over soggy. There was a generous amount of steak in my sandwich. It was tender and juicy! I do recommend the 6′ but if you get the whole it’s almost too much to eat in one setting so you can take it home with you. There was plenty of seating. Bathroom was clean. Staff was friendly. The food was fresh. Location is great just off 1 – 64 Tidewater Dr exit and HRT #8 bus stops right by it. The area was not ghetto hood at all. It’s actually a decent area and there is a good diner just down the street from it Johnny’s Diner. Loved looking at all the cool Flyers, Eagles, Phillies memorabilia on the walls. I will be back 4 sho and they do serve other items like Hot Dogs, Burgers, BLT’s and Cheesesteak salads! I will be back. It’s the real deal just like you would find in the 215 Phila!

This place is a must try! I finally had a fantastic«on point«cheese steak. I even went there pre hurricane. Plenty of meat and great flavor. A good cheese steak is supposed to get a lil messy. There’s no proper ones. If stuff isn’t falling out then you picked the wrong place. I will definitely be back!

Not the best cheesesteaks I’ve ever had but still pretty good but a little on the greasy side(even for a cheesesteak). Food came out fast. Only thing I’d like to see, and I may have missed it, is some of the sides like fries, onion rings, poppers, etc that you can usually find at places like this.

In my quest to try and hit as many local joints as I can that have a reputation for great Philly Cheesesteaks I hit up Philly Style today. This was my last local bookmark to try and put on my list of cheesesteaks. The proximity of the restaurant is easily accessed off of I64 and is close to the corner of Little Creek and Tidewater. I had never specifically been on this block in recent memory. The sub shop is well marked over the business and a sign out front. Parking was somewhat challenged at lunch rush, but I scored a nice one on the side of the building. Parking lot and walks were clear of debris. A walk inside and you could tell they are a Philly Cheese shop with all the memborbilla from the Philadelphia from shirts in the ceiling tiles to baseball cards, poster and pictures on the walls. Not a big place, around eight tables total in one main room and a smaller interior room. Floors are black and white checkerboard furnishing are dated, however clean. The small joint was packed, line to the door and not tables available. However, I was assured that this is mainly a takeout and something would most likely turn up and it did. There was a larger military presence than I expected, but a mix of old, young blue collar, white collar. I walked to the counter, took a look at the menu and was surprised that it is quite extensive. Much more than chesesteaks, but I knew what I came here for. The man helping me was extremely friendly, helpful and assisted with the best choice of a steak. I ordered a six inch with mayo and lettuce. They have bottle drinks only and a huge chip rack of two different sizes. It took around 25 min, maybe more due to the fact they were slammed. They do offer call ahead ordering which would be a good call if doing take out. I used the restroom before my food order was up. It is so small the door hits the stool. Everything functioned properly and had soap and towels. Cleanliness okay, just old. When your order is up they will call your name. The steak was tightly rolled in white paper. A woman checked me out and again same experience as the male. She was very friendly and smiled the whole time even under a lot of pressure. As she was ringing me up I saw the trays of bread opened up with cheese slices on them prepped for use. So I assume no cheese whiz is used. The total blew me away, less than $ 9. I unwrapped it and of course had to snap a shot. It is nothing special to look at closed up. The first bite had me most excited at the freshness and genuineness of the bread. Pretty confident this was the real deal amrosa which is special. However, the steak did not deliver where the bread did. It was good, not great. The quality is less than I hoped. Also, as I mentioned the way the do the cheese may, or may not be authentic. I like the cheese wiz myself. It was a tasty sandwich and I did not leave a bite. Philly Style Steaks & Subs has a lot going for it. Friendly service with interaction with two staff. A clean environment to dine in and solid delivery of a cheesesteaks at dirt cheap prices. It’s not my favorite in the area but I would return if I was around the business and hungry. A 3.5 rounding down to a solid 3. However, I would not go out of my way. See my list of Cheesesteaks for others in the area that I have tried.

This is one of my favorite spots on the south side to get Cheese Steaks from. I am from Philly and I believe that i was first feed a cheese steak before I had formula. LOL anyway I know something about a good one. I always suggest that you call in your order, unless you want to eat end. I love the vibe of the place as well because they have all kinds of memorabilia from Philly and makes me miss home even more at times.
