My first time being here, the outside of the building is very exciting and my kind of place. We started off with calamari, which was one of the two things I only had a problem with, it was very over cooked and chewy. The other thing was all of our food came out at different times, other then that we had a good time and the service was good. I will definitely be back!

Overall my hubby and I had more good times than bad here. We usually walk our pup here and sit outside. I went alone with my pup one time and sat outside. When I was ready to leave, I attempted to duck below the rails separating the bar from the sidewalk… And the hostess came out yelling that I can’t do that and I have to go around(walk inside). I told her that I don’t feel comfortable leaving my pup by himself… And let her know that I’ve ducked under the rails several times. She literally wouldn’t let me and told me that she would hold me dog! … It’s really not that serious! Other than that chick… We love the drinks… They always have specials going on

This place’s happy hour is unbeatable. The atmosphere is also super chill. I come here pretty often(about once a month or so) and the prices are always reasonable. There are food and drink specials almost everyday of the week. The food isn’t the greatest, but you can’t beat the prices. Overall, I’d recommend having a few beers before ordering spud mountain or some chicken tenders.

Dined in today for my first time and had a great experience. The bartender was our server and she was very attentive. We ordered wings and mozzarella sticks. their Saturday specials are the best in town for both food and drinks. It was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back!

Mozzarella stickz are gross! Drinks are super weak! This use to be a great establishment when I was in college 3 years ago. Really disappointed.

The tuna bites were so delicious! Perfectly cooked to medium, blackened and so juicy. Crispy fried pickles and a very good Carolina style bbq sandwich. Topped off with a good grapefruit Shandy, wonderful meal. Though it was a little slow for being pretty quiet.

This place made me feel like I had stumbled into an alternate universe. The inside smelled like axe body spray, cheap booze, and frat-dog desperation. I am not sure what clientele they are going for; college bro’s or neighborhood drunks? There was a good mix of both at the bar. It looked like a mash up between Jersey Shore and Hee Haw. We decided to stay for a drink/some pizza and see how it played out. Our drinks came in plastic cups… I am not joking. You can’t make this kind of stuff up. The pizza arrived shortly after. It tasted like cardboard, topped with hot garbage. What a treat! The icing on the cake was when I went to use the bathroom and there was a bro-dawg in the stall barfing. I guess the deep fried steak bites got the best of him.

There are tons of TVs, which makes this a convenient place to catch a game. I prefer the scene when it isn’t busy though.

We came in and sat ourselves. The hostess appeared after 2 minutes with incredibly wet and sticky menus and told us our waitress would be with us in one second… I’m not sure if one second was to be interpreted as never. The place wasn’t packed at all. Actually several different waitresses looked in our direction and not one came to serve us. After 16 minutes of waiting for someone to ask us for drinks at the minimum we decided to take our hunger pains and wallets elsewhere. I’d probably come here again if there was a gun and ransom involved… even then I’d risk it.

I feel like the 2nd star is generous. Horrible portion sizes, good deals on the weekends, but the food was underwhelming. Makes this probably my 2nd& final visit to this mediocre at best establishment. Bar manager was dismissive of our complaints & seemed inept at managing issues & keeping his ego in check at the same time. They gave us a 2nd order of calamari that didn’t show up before we left…20 minutes later!

I wish that I would have had a pleasant visit but unfortunately I did not. The waitress was extremely disorganized and slow somewhat confused. We placed an order for appetizers and before we finished ordering appetizers she abruptly cut me off asked what we were drinking and walked away. I thought maybe she would have started the dialogue over and I attempted to allowed her to regain herself, unfortunately she did not. We explained we were not finished after she walked off again and she said«I will get it later after I put your appetizers in» which is fine but could I finish ordering my appetizers. She left again saying she would go get napkins. Long story short we left and came to another establishment with better customer service. I have hopes of trying it again one day but maybe during the day when the waitresses are refreshed!

Honestly, if you want to eat something, go somewhere else. So many great restaurants in the Ghent area. If you want to drink though, and it’s between 4 – 7 this is the place to do it. 50% off all drinks. Usually, I’ll go in, order a pitcher for about $ 10 – 12 of a craft beer, and go. The food’s blah at best, and not worth the money. I will note this: ask for a non-frosted glass. I’m sorry, but I sure as hell don’t want to drink an IPA in a frosted glass. If it wasn’t for the happy hour, Red Dog would get 1 star. I’ll still come here for happy hour every now and then, but there are so many great bars that over the years this has fallen off the list for sure.

If you have nut allergies(specifically tree nut allergies like I do), please refrain from ordering the cookies here. While the cookies aren’t listed on the menu, I really wanted to order something sweet on Friday night(08÷21÷15), so I asked our waitress what they had for dessert. She said they had chocolate chip cookies, and some other kind. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie, and when it was served, I had taken a couple of bites and noticed that in addition to my lips feeling tingly, my throat was scratchy as well(although it wasn’t quite closing in yet). I stopped eating, took a better look at the cookie, and sure enough, there were macadamia nuts scattered throughout the cookie. I immediately left with a friend to go and get Benadryl while our other friends waited at the restaurant. I ended up going home and my friend told me he would take care of the cost for the cookie, and also let our waitress know that the cookie she served me had nuts in it and caused an allergic reaction. When I went home, I had a much worse, delayed reaction. My face was swollen, I broke out in hives, I was really hot, and my already hoarse voice sounded ten times worse, so my mother rushed me to the emergency room where I stayed until 4 in the morning hooked up to an IV. My mother ended up calling Red Dog to let them know what was going on and she told the manager that they just need to be careful about what they are serving people and that they need to let people know what’s actually in the cookies. One of my friends who stayed at the restaurant also spoke to a manager, who said he would relay the message to everyone else who works there. I also called the next day when I was feeling better just to let them know that I was fine because I figured our waitress probably felt pretty bad. It was sort of an «I’m not dead or anything but I could’ve been» call. While I would have preferred not to spend my Friday night in the ER, I will say that management handled it pretty well and was very apologetic. It’s funny because I had just finished telling my friends that while I know they like to visit Red Dog, if it weren’t for them, I probably wouldn’t eat their food or visit there again(just because I haven’t been impressed in the past, and I hate sitting in really small booths with large groups of people). It became a running joke at our table, but then I decided to be greedy and order something sweet, and this is what happened. I’m not the type of person to refrain from hanging out with my friends just because they are going to a restaurant that I don’t particularly favor, but I’m starting to feel like this is a sign that Red Dog just isn’t for me. Again, I will say that their managers are pretty nice though.

Although I have been living in Ghent since 1992, it had been about ten years since I had last stopped in here to eat or drink. Instead, I have been shamelessly using this place as a quick and occasional pit stop when nature calls on the way walking home from any one of Ghent’s other bars and restaurants. That is, until one recent evening, when the following sign on their front door caught my eye: NOTICE: VAPINGISNOTALLOWEDINSIDEREDDOG. NOEXCEPTIONS. THANKYOU. THEMANAGEMENT This is the first time I had ever seen a no vaping sign in front of any restaurant. For the record, I am not a vaper, and I have not been keeping track of the latest developments in the vaping controversy. Nevertheless, I was very surpised to see such a sign posted in front of all places, the Red Dog Saloon. They won my admiration for taking a stand. So, I decided to stop in and order a martini at the bar, stirred and not shaken. My bartender was very friendly and complimented me on my James Bond tastes. Actually, Bond ordered his martinis the other way around, shaken and not stirred. I am an anti-Bond when it comes to my martinis. My martini turned out to be a bit of a curiosity. Instead of being served in a traditional conical shaped martini glass or coupe glass, it came served in a rocks glass. This is something I had never seen before. The martinis I ordered here a decade ago were served in the traditional conical shaped martini glasses. I figured that maybe their martini glasses were still being washed with none available. After finishing my martini, I paid and tipped my friendly bartender and left. A few evenings later, I decided to stop in for a bite to eat. Their menu was pretty much the same as I remembered it a decade ago. I used to get either their KICK-ASSHOTCHICKENTENDERS or their BUILDYOUROWNALLBEEFBURGER with their CRISPYREDDOGCHIPS. Both of these items are still available on their menu. I chose their BUILDYOUROWNALLBEEFBURGER, which is still priced at only five dollars, just as it was last decade. If nothing else, this is an excellent value. Extra toppings are available at $ 1.75 each. I chose two of them, namely their Sliced Jalapeño Poppers and Tobacco Onions. Their burger turned out better than I expected. I ordered it medium-rare, and it came out a true medium rare. It was on the greasy side, but it still managed to hit the spot. I enjoyed the tastes and textures of their Sliced Jalapeño Poppers and the Tobacco Onions, which helped me to tune out the grease. I also enjoyed their Crispy Red Dog Chips, which were a refreshing change from some of the mediocre fries I’ve been having elsewhere lately. I had a different bartender this time, who was also very friendly. My martinis were once again served in a rocks glass, as I described earlier. Apparently, they have abandoned the traditional martini glasses they used a decade ago. I much prefer the traditional martini glasses, and I think they should go back to using them. Otherwise, their martinis were acceptable. Perhaps, I should stop here to eat and drink more often. Instead of waiting another ten years, I might make it back in five.

Supposedly this is the talk on the EVMS Medical School Campus. I would highly recommend getting the fried pickles. I had it for the first time here(I do not like pickles before this) and it turned out to be the best dish we ordered. On Tuesday they also have a beer sampler that I would recommend getting its $ 6 bucks for 65oz glasses of beer.

Back in my college days(wow I feel old for saying that), my buddies and I would go to Red Dog every week, either Friday or Saturday, to just relax and unwind from a week of classes. When I first found out about this place, I was so astonished at how cheap their drinks were during happy hour! 50% off drinks from 3 – 7 and then 25% off drinks from 7 – 9 every day?! You won’t find deals better than that! And believe me, I’ve tried. Nothing compares. The icing on the cake is the fact that they off BOGO appetizers on Fridays and Saturdays. That’s basically a meal in itself to go along with your $ 7 pitcher of domestic beer from 3 – 7. They also used to offer $ 0.50 tacos between 3 – 7. What a bargain! But why only two stars? Well, as amazing as those deals are, there always is a reason behind it. First off, the cheap beer. Now for beer that cheap, it’s hard to say no. But it can be a hit or miss with their beer during happy hour. On numerous occasions my friends and I have had to complain about our beers being flat, warm, and with no taste. They’ve always been nice about it, offering new pitchers or sometimes even free pitchers, but still, that doesn’t negate the fact that from time to time, there is a chance you’ll receive unacceptable alcohol. Secondly, the service is very questionable. When you get to the bar you can sit wherever you’d like. Please, choose your seats wisely, because from what I’ve noticed and experienced, certain seats and seating areas get more exceptional service than others. There had been a number of times where our waitress didn’t come back to take our orders from 6:30 — 6:59, causing us to miss the 50% off happy hour prices. That is really unacceptable! Third, with as cheap as the food is, it really isn’t all that good. With the prices they have, they don’t offer quality, nor do they offer quantity. But of course, that’s how the business works I suppose. A few years ago, their buffalo chicken appetizers were big enough to fill two empty stomachs. Now a days, you’d be lucky if it filled up one stomach. Hard times, I guess? Also, the tacos are now $ 0.75 each. My buddies and I still make the occasional drinking trip here. The cheap prices always, always, always get us to go there. Once we’re there and after we receive our pitcher of flat beer, we remember why we try not to go. But hey, you be the judge. Hopefully your experience will be better than the many experiences I’ve had.

I don’t know what it is about this place, but I like it a lot. I’ve been here twice and always enjoyed it. The first time was with a friend to just grab a bite to eat. Food was cheap, fried, greasy, and delicious. Beer and drinks are cheap with good specials. I came here for a second time for a little impromptu birthday celebration. We were lucky and found 5 empty seats at the bar. The bartender was quick and friendly enough. She didn’t hover over us or ignore us, which is a sign of a good bartender in my opinion. I love the atmosphere, it’s no frills and just fun. There are a couple of pool tables as well. The food is typical bar food, but they have some great specials. You’re not going to come here for a gourmet meal, but come here for a fun, relaxing time with friends.

Started coming here with my friends this past summer as a place to grab cocktails, socially drink, and unwind. I’ve been here a good number of times, and I can honestly say this is a fairly good chill spot; come in stressed, come out tipsy and carefree. Lol Every time I’ve been there has always been some kind of special going on, so take advantage, especially of the half priced drinks at happy hour! Their specialty cocktails and margaritas are very good for the price. You can catch a slight buzz, but the drinks aren’t too overpowered with alcohol so you can actually taste the flavoring. I suggest getting the«Doggy Style» cocktail or a standard Margarita with sugar around the rim, those are my two favorite drinks. If you’re looking to eat while you’re here, I would highly suggest getting spud mountain, which are bacon cheddar fries with plenty of topping. It’s so good. Their buffalo chicken pizza is also pretty good, and they have 75¢ tacos on certain days as well that are pretty good and filling. I’ve also gotten a burger here before, but I would stay away from those, as the last one I got from there was pretty dry. The service here is also hit or miss depending on the day and the server, but hey as long as I get my cocktail so I can get my sip on and take the edge off I’m not one to complain. I can’t wait til it’s summer time again so I can enjoy a cocktail in the nice weather outside.(Ya’ll I promise I’m not an alcoholic) lol. Overall, if you’re looking for filling reasonably priced food and cocktails to unwind with friends, or by yourself even. Come to Red Dog Saloon and take it doggy style! Woof woof.

I was not sober enough to remember my first visit to Red Dog, the second time was just for a beer after a volleyball practice. So, wandering around Ghent looking for Saturday brunch, I was more than a little skeptical when a man suggested a bar. But hey, $ 5 off coupon, I’m there. I am pretty sure I had a look of complete shock and confusion plastered on my face the entire meal. It was good, like really good. The special was described as lump crab meat mixed with a scallop cream, wrapped in a crêpe, fried and served over lobster sauce. Not what I thought would be available at a place with Saloon in the title. It was very reasonably priced, the service was fast and friendly. I can find no complaint and I will be going back just to make sure I didn’t just imagine the whole thing. A bar that serves brunch. Huh.
