My hubby and I LOVE this place for drinks. We usually walk here with our pup and they are very friendly and bring him water. We weren’t impressed by the food. Like at all… The bacon wrapped tatter tots seem to be missing something… Under the bacon, the potato is completely uncooked and mushy… We will go back. Just not to eat!

Great service but the nachos are DANK! The chips are potato chips, the meat they use is like a thin sliced deli meat and the beer cheese is too salty for the chips. If you want edible nachos– go somewhere else!

I don’t know what the negative reviews are about. I went there this evening with a few friends and it seemed like a gem. I had their lamb burger with a side of their white collar mac and everything was delicious. Additionally, the Shepherd’s pie that my friend had was outstanding. I don’t know if there was anything on the table that wasn’t devoured without abandon. Excellent beer list and atmosphere, what more do you want?

This place is great you should definitely give it a chance sometimes the bartenders can seem a little overwhelmed and short with the customers but other than that everything is great and they have the best Cuban sandwiches ever!

Read Me! Detailed Reviewer! First time here. Never knew the place existed until I drove by and was hungry. CLEANLINESS: The restaurant was very clean and clear. Decorations minimal with a dimmed lights giving it a dark sexy feel. Definitely wonderful lighting for a personal date dinner or something. FRIENDLINESS: The staff was friendly enough. It was pretty empty when we went so we got to seat ourselves. MENU: The menu wasn’t spectacular but not horrible either. What can I say? Your run of the mill selections. Cool look, not that easy to look at or read though. FOOD/DRINKS: We had the Hummus and Pita Appetizer. The flamed pita combination of flavors was really good except the pita was a little too burnt in places and I had to pinch it off. Entrees… I had the housemade lambburger and onion rings. My friend had the Steak w/Aparagus and broccoli. I tried the Steak, it was okay, lacked a little flavor. Same goes for my burger. It was fresh and cooked well but the combination of the flavors lacked pizazz. The onion rings however, were Lovely. Haha They had a bunch of beers & ales but not much of a liquor menu so I had the bartender make something up for me. Meh:-/ OVERALL/VALUE: This place was mediocre at best. I wished there something wow about it that would keep me coming back but there wasn’t…atleast not for me. One thing I did like was that they had an indoor smoke bar in the back(I don’t smoke but my friend does) with pool tables and open windows that gave me a much warmer/relaxed feel than the restaurant. Maybe this place is cooler at night with more people but for now, I’ll try my luck other places.

Been here twice now. Buffalo chicken sandwich the first time, braised short ribs the second. Both meals were delicious and carefully prepared. The beer menu is large, but not overwhelming like some places. Plenty of seating, kid friendly, and the wait staff was great.

Public House is a cute little spot in Ghent that I’ve always seen but never had the time to try, but finally got the chance to today! I came into Public House during lunch hours, It was very quiet and we were promptly served by our waitress and taken to a table. One thing I appreciate is that they have their own private parking lot which is very convenient although it is a bit small. The menu had lots of options ranging from different sandwiches, salads, to regular entrees. I decided on the Cuban sandwich and when I asked about substituting the side of apples for fries I was shocked to hear that it would cost me $ 3 for the replacement and $ 4.5 for Mac and cheese. Other than that, the food was decent and the portions average sized. Great service though, and will probably come back to try something else on the menu!

First time experience here… Let me say loved the atmosphere! Ordered pretzels for appetizer and they were great and cheese was so good and on point took some home to go! Love our entrées and wished we had room for dessert! Can’t remember our waitress name but she had purple hair and even with taking care of most of dining area still made time to take care of all our needs!!! Will def be back just for her… Well and food too lol!

Having been(and loved) Still and Supper, two sister restaurants of The Public House, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, those expectations were not met. My wife and I shared the Beer Cheese Nachos, which are basically your standard bar nachos, only with housemade potato chips instead of tortilla chips, served with a beer cheese dipping sauce. They sounded good on paper, but on the table, they failed to impress. For our entrees, I had the Meatloaf French Dip and my wife had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. My sandwich was tasted good, and the portion size was more than adequate. I was surprised to find that the meatloaf was cold. Not lukewarm, but cold. I know some people prefer cold meatloaf sandwiches, but for a take on a French dip, it was a little strange, and I think I would have preferred it hot. I don’t know for certain that it supposed to be cold, but I was a little embarrassed to ask. It was tasty nonetheless. My wife’s buffalo chicken sandwich featured an imposingly huge chicken breast tossed in buffalo sauce, served on a cholla roll with LTO. The sauce was good, although a bit spicier than she probably would have liked. The chicken breast, while huge, was — much to our dismay — raw in the center, which she discovered on her first bite. Our server was apologetic enough and took it off our bill, but it was a bit of an appetite ruiner. I was a little surprised that a manager never visited our table to apologize in person. Overall, the experience was disappointing. The Public House’s sister restaurants have an air of pretentiousness, but the food and drink lives up to the promises made by the atmosphere. The Public House does not. They calls it a «gastropub», but it falls short of the«gastro» part, serving up fairly generic pub food.

I gave Public House another chance after almost 4 years and I have to say, it’s a little better. I think the people that own Public House also own Still, Bardo, and Gosport Tavern, at least it looks like they do. I came here for lunch. My go-to is always the bacon wrapped tater tots and they were delicious. It’s not even shredded potato– it’s mashed potato goodness fried and wrapped in giant, thick slices of bacon. I got the Reuben and it was A-OK. It had a different taste to it that I just can’t put my finger on– like a smokey chipotle flavor which is not what I was expecting but it was a pleasant surprise. Our server, whose name I just never got, was nice but a little slow. That’s surprising seeing as it really wasn’t that busy… at all. Either way, I gave it a chance, it’s better than it was. I think I’ll come back soon.

The food ranges from fantastic to awful. There is clearly someone in the kitchen who has creative control but does not care about consistency. From ritz crackers as an appetizer to Worcestershire sauce in the French onion soup — it’s always changing. I’m kinda done with this place. My family lives next door and has been in probably 100 times but no one ever gives them a friendly nod or notices that they’re literally always there(out of sheer proximity). When someone comes in a couple times a week for a couple years there really should be at least a little bit of friendliness and familiarity. The menu tries to be witty and unique but only comes across as rude to me. Even though I’ve had great meals here, is not worth it to roll the dice every time.

We’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally made it in for Saturday lunch. First, the service from Logan, the bartender was awesome! No hostess was around so he created us from the bar. They were pretty busy, so Logan came around to seat us and did let us know they had a big party in one of the dining rooms and the kitchen was a little backed up, in case we were in a hurry. MUCH appreciated, but since we weren’t in a rush, we decided to give it a try. We were seated in the bar area and Logan got our drinks. He let the server who was working the section know we were there and the guy told the bartender he was too busy. He had FIVE tables, I counted, and didn’t look to be in the weeds. What a jerk. But no worries, Logan took great care of us. The pretzel stick appetizer was amazing! I could have drank a mug of that wonderful beer cheese. Hubby had the NY Strip and eggs, while I went with a burger. Yes, the wait was long, but we knew that coming in. Unfortunately, the entrees weren’t really worth it. Hubby’s steak was overcooked, and my burger was literally raw in the middle. Granted, I always order mid-rare to medium, but this was raw. We’re chalking it up to the kitchen being overwhelmed. We’re planning to give The Public House another try, for dinner next time. And if Logan is working, we’re sitting in his section, even if that means eating dinner at the bar!

Came for brunch and was totally overwhelmed by so many good options. I decided to get the skillet and a Bloody Mary. Eggs, cheese and big pieces of veggies are all good things. Good presentation, maybe could’ve been seasoned better? My date liked his steak and eggs though. The Bloody Mary was way too salty and no olives. I decided to give them 4 stars anyway for ambience, variety on the menu, and the awesome waitstaff. Bathrooms are also clean and there were no issues with parking, which are also pluses.

Great place to come and have a beer and dinner. The service was excellent that the selection of beer was great. There is also a great selection of liquor as well. I had the pretzel sticks with beer cheese and it was amazing. This is a place to come and have a drink with friends.

I stopped in for brunch and have to say, the food is as good as the drinks. Started off with the Pretzel Sticks… wow, these were good. Deep fried(I believe) pretzel sticks perfectly seasoned, served with sides of beer cheese and stone ground mustard. Overall, perfectly balanced, and both dippers worked. Had the Pork Shoulder for my entrée, and it was good, but could’ve definitely had more garnishes than beer cheese or green tomato salsa(i.e cilantro, lettuce, thinly sliced red onion, lime, etc.). Both the mixed drink I ordered(something with Bacardi, orange bitters, coconut rum(I think) and muddled fruit) and the beer(what can be wrong with a Sculpin from Ballast Point) were properly done. Overall, I’ll definitely be back for more, and definitely for a few more drinks.

I can’t complain about drinks, because I only had a beer, but my wife & I ordered a buffalo chicken Chicken Salad. The salad was not fresh, It was as if the whole head of salad was cut in fours, and they gave me one fourth of the cut with the chicken on the side. Thinking I would receive a complete salad made NOT. It was as if I had to make my own salad. And the waitress seem to not really care she was like is really nothing she can do until I spoke to the manager.

This is my second time to come here. At first, I was having a second thought of coming back because I didn’t had a good impression during the first visit. However, I also believe in second chances, you can’t judge everything in one visit. To tell you the truth, the only thing that I truly like this place is the wide variety of crafts beers, wine and cocktails. In addition, the place is ideally good for drinks, group meetings and night out. I must admit that the entire restaurant looks incredibly amazing. The dining setting is spot on, my favourite part of the restaurant is most definitely the patio. I didn’t regret of coming back here probably I just needed a validation that this place is not quite for me. Tonight proved my hesitation and doubts. Despite the unfortunate experience I had before I was actually positive that something might change my opinion with regards to this place. I was in a mood for drinking so I started with bold rock hard cider. I thought it was light, crisp, and refreshing. It was exactly that I needed to spice up my appetite. I wanted to do something different so I ordered two appetizer, the fried pickles and beef nachos. I hate to say this but it was just fine. As good as it was visually presented, the flavor profile didn’t hit the mark. I feel like the kitchen were trying so hard to make everything work. The idea and creativity is well put out but its not quite there. I may not be a food expert but I know what taste good is. For example, the nachos needed citrus to balance the flavor, the green salad was a great addition but it didn’t really do much. The cheesy sauce didn’t compliment at all. I think the problem was the cheese isn’t the right one however the using the potato chips as a subtitution was very clever. The fried pickles was over cooked and heavy breaded. It tasted good though but there was a bitterness tang. It was busy and packed when I dine in. Also I truly understand and importance of customer service regardless of busy scenario. I feel like every guest should be attended fairly, the food service can be forgiving but the hospitality was such forgettable. Its an understated of not knowing what exactly has to be done in a moment of taking a little time to acknowledged the presence of the guest of being welcomed. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will come back anytime soon.

I loved this place for many reasons. A. The employee hand washing notification in the men’s restroom is brutally honest and badly needed in this PC world of ours. B. The awesome selection of craft beers was a welcome change of pace from the typical BS Blue Moon’s that finds its way into the craft beer portion of the booze menu at most establishments i went to around this area. C. The seemingly down to earth home style food on the menu with a modern twist. The food was beyond great. I ordered the meatloaf… yes, meatloaf. You’re probably thinking«who the F would order meatloaf». Well, funny you asked, cause I did and I loved it. It was moist, delicious and perfectly seasoned. It was classy meatloaf, meatloaf with an attitude. My buddies ordered a sandwich, and the steak, all of which I would order without question. I will for sure come back here next time I find myself on the East Coast… oh, PS, if you don’t smoke, do not go to the back smoking room in hopes of getting your drink quicker, it’s beyond foul and will ruin whatever halfway decent scent you walked into the pub with.

This is a great place for drinks and late-night eating. They have plenty of drink options – especially for beer – and the food selection is great! My boyfriend and I went here for a late dinner. It was already pretty crowded, but most of the people were hanging out at the bar. Because of that, we were able to be seated right away. Being a bar on a Friday night, it was obviously very loud. If we were looking for a quiet date night, this definitely wouldn’t have been the right place. But it’s a good environment for going out and getting drinks. They have a lot of great local craft beers to choose from, so we were pretty satisfied with that. The food was delicious! I got the white collar mac & cheese because it’s my all-time favorite food, and I love anything with truffles as well. I added their house-made bacon to it, which made my meal all the more delicious. It was so creamy and flavorful, and the bacon was thick and cooked to perfection. I was so full and satisfied from it! My boyfriend had gotten the lamb burger, and he absolutely loved it. He devoured the whole thing! Lamb generally has a pretty strong taste, so it’s not for everybody. But if you do like lamb, their burger is pretty great. I would definitely love to go back and try more of their food. It’s at a great location, our server was very nice, and the food is awesome.

Hear ye, hear ye, o’blessed Unilocal gods and muggles; for I hath a story to tell. ‘Twas just three moons ago that the intergalactic spaceship of food bliss, wonder, and love descended from the unknown and into my hungry belly. What could this spaceship of sheer amazeballs and magic be, you ask? Public House. I, normally, don’t bless myself with Ghent embarkations. WHY? Well, I’m left with asking myself that same question. Ghent is a food mecca –you hear me?! A frakin’ food mecca. Eating, unfortunately(for both me and my yoga instructor), is a hobby of mine. A sacred, monumental hobby. Seriously, if they made Foodies Anonymous, I’d be the nutjob at the meetings holding on for dear life to my six assigned sponsors. Food, to me, is like meth to a drug addict. I’m constantly feining; thus, why I never go to Ghent. I’ll start scratching my neck and shaking like a ripe, spring leaf in the wind –I’ll be clamoring for a fix(*sigh* I’m so weak). Enough about me, let’s talk about this food. Check this: if I’m ever executed, THIS is where I will request my last meal from. So, a lot of hipster muggles talk about this place: Public House this, Public House that, fancy whiskey wall this, craft beer galore that. Thus, I kind of avoided this place for a long time. And holy s#%^, do I feel like a fool. The other day, I walked in and sat immediately at the bar for lunch. It would seem that I was the only person in the establishment(well, aside from the super GQ bartender). He handed me the menu and told me that the soup of the day was none other than: split pea soup. OYFREAKIN’ VEY. I almost had a heart attack. Nowhere, and I mean nowhere ever has split pea soup. I ordered that, with a Shirley Temple, and a crazy large Club sandwich(sue me, I eat like a nine-year old, whatevs). A kosher-keepin’ Bubbe’s nightmare of a meal. It came out fast, hot, delicious, and perfectly spiced. Who knew a club sandwich could wiggle it’s way into being the Best in Show?! WHOKNEW?! The split pea soup was phenomenal –and when I say phenomenal, I mean, it put my dear Jewish mother’s to shame. Not just to shame; it slaughtered it, buried it, and erected a tomb over it. Whoever made this soup should be awarded a Medal of Honor, because I’m in love with you, dear stranger. Seriously. Stop scrolling and just go to Public House. Bless yourself, Unilocal lords and heathens. You deserve it.
