I never got to see the doctor. He was close and I needed to see someone right away hopefully as soon as they opened. They were supposed to open at 9am. I called at 8:58. Nothing. Called at 9:07 nope. Called at 9:20 no answer. Called at 9:30 no answer, rang through to answering service to confirm they were coming in. Yep. Called back at 10am, some guy answered. Let’s just say he wasn’t as sharp as what I needed. I’ll just let that one go. Didn’t bother trying to make it right or help him do his job. Just move on.

If you are under 75 years old, do NOT go to this doctor. The tests he does are from about 40 years ago. They are uncomfortable and cause needless anxiety and waste time. I have been wearing contact lenses for 28 years, I know all the tests, I know how they are preformed and I know how long an appointment should take. In my case an exam for contact lenses should have taken between 30 – 40 minutes, with this doctor I was there for an hour and half! He flipped my eyelids inside out about five times(even taking pictures!) I have NEVER had a doctor do this. It is uncomfortable the first time and by the fifth time I was feeling so nervous about his competence that I had to tell him that I had to go get my daughter from the babysitter just so I could get out of there! In all my years of eye exams I have never had an experience like this. Truly unbelievable. Finally I had to ask for a pair of lenses to drive home. I didn’t wait for the doctor to tell me we were done, I just picked up my purse and said«I have to go now». Ridiculous

I’ve been a patient of Dr. John McGroarty for 3 yrs. I was referred to him by a co-worker, who has been a patient of his for over 20yrs(Thanks Barry F.). The day I made my first appointment, I knew things would be easy because he had already dealt with people in the industry that I work in, so he already was familair with my insurance. When you first meet Dr. John he gives off this warm and friendly vibe. It’s kind of like dealing with a very good friend or family member. He takes the time that I think doctors used to take with their patients. He’s very personable always asking me how my family’s doing and how works going, or just how I’ve been in general. When I went for my first visit, I was telling him how things are kinda getting blurry close up, espesially in my left eye. How, because I tend to work on circut boards at work, it’s sometimes hard to see the letters and numbers on the boards. He did a series of tests, carefullly checking my eyes and always making small talk in between. It was later determined I needed glasses for close up work. The really cool thing is that, had there been anything really serious with my eyes and maybe needed surgury, he would be the one working on my eyes. That might be a pretty cooky thing to think of when your going in for a routine eye doc visit, but it’s good to know that he’d be the one working on you instead of turning the job over to someone you don’t know and isn’t familliar with you. I mean, their all professionals, but I like it when my doctors work on me, and if I have a choice then I’m going with some one like Doc John. The other thing I liked was that he had a cool variety of frames to choose from. Not ever needing glasses, I was glad to find frames that I liked. Now I find my self having my eyes checked every year, just to keep a close eye on them(get it???). So if your ever in the market for a great Opthamologist and live or work in the south valley area(Burbank, NoHo), then I seriously recommend checking out Dr. John McGroarty, I think you’ll have a great expeirence.
