Velos is amazing! Rachael really knows what she’s doing. She’s great at really tailoring her instruction to the individual student, depending on their level. I work out quite a bit(run, bike, swim, bootcamp, etc.) and this class kicked my butt. The day after, I was incredibly sore — but in a good way! But, don’t feel intimidated if you haven’t worked out a lot. Rachael is super encouraging and friendly and will find the right modification for you. Seriously, you will walk away from this class feeling like you can conquer anything!

I write this review while every muscle in my body is sore from the 3 Velos classes I took this week! Contrary to the previous reviewer, I’ve never taken any exercise classes, aside from Cardio Barre and aerobics with Richard Simmons… No yoga, no Pilates, no gym membership ever, nada! So, if you are like me, and have NOIDEA what it possibly means that«Vélos combines elements of Tabata Training, plyometrics, and TRX», I am here as an exercise neophyte to offer some explanations and alleviate your fear! :-) Velos is a fast-paced class, that emphasizes core exercises, strength training and cardio. Every class varies greatly, but it is always based on circuits… Rachael will explain a series of exercises that you do in succession for a set period of time… For example, it could be something like doing throwing a medicine ball for 30 seconds, 10 seconds of rest, doing some variation of planking or push ups for 30 seconds, 10 seconds of rest, 30 seconds of jumps or lunges, 10 seconds of rest… And repeat the whole series 2 or 3 times. Rachael also does a lot of TRX exercises, which I had no idea about until this class, but it’s actually my favorite part, even though I struggle to do it correctly. Basically, this is suspension training that uses long straps with handles that hang from the ceiling… You hold the handles and pull your body weight up(with your feet always on the ground… It’s kind of like an easier version of a chin up), or lie on the ground with your feet in the handles, and do ab work. And I’m sure there are many ways to use the straps that I haven’t witnessed yet. This is a great, very thorough work out! Completely exhausting and will make you sweat like crazy, but every class I took, I was surprised when the hour was over, it went by so quickly! Rachael is simply awesome! She will push you, for sure, but she is always very encouraging and will make you feel so proud of what you are able to accomplish. She pays a lot of individual attention to you, and always helps you make the proper adjustments to do the moves correctly. And when she is demonstrating the exercises for the circuits, if it is a more advanced move, she will immediately show options for modifications to make it a little easier if you’re not quite up for doing something the more challenging way! Individual classes are a little pricey($ 18), but check out the website before you go, as she often runs specials. For example, I got to go to unlimited classes my first week for $ 30, and going 3 times in one week also earned me 30% off when I buy a package of classes… Which I will! I highly recommend Velos… I’m hooked!

I have taken tons of different work out classes. Bar classes, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, I’ve done it all. But nothing compares to Velos. This class is incredible. It is a fantastic combination of strength training and cardio and every class is unique. Rachael is an extremely inspiring teacher and will take you and your body to places you never thought possible. Definitely check it out!
