Sandy’s Real Chicken Fried Steaks

Sad to see all the low reviews… I have been going to this place since I was a kid and love it!
The décor is pretty outdated and it doesn’t look like much, but don’t let that fool you. The husband and wife that own this place are so sweet! I always order the chicken fried steak which is delicious and comes with homemade mashed potatoes. Everything is always piping hot and made to order.
Try their pies, you won’t be disappointed :)

Ordered the chicken fried steak dinner. Everything was incredibly bland. No seasoning on anything. Very very disappointing, especially since they’re supposed to be known for their chicken fried steak. Wouldn’t come back here.

I was looking for something besides Chinese food or pizza to be delivered when I saw on Unilocal that this restaurant delivers. Well, they used to. The delivery company they were using has gone out of business and Sandy’s neglected to notify Unilocal that delivery is no longer available. I can’t speak to the quality of the food because I’ve never been there. But if they don’t care enough about their business to keep their information current, what does that tell you?

I’ve been going here since I was a kid, great food, excellent prices and a really nice staff that gets to know you.

I had passed by Sandy’s so many times but had never stopped. I was in the area during lunchtime so I decided to stop in for one of their famous chicken fried steaks. I thought it was strange that the restaurant only had 3 guests there at 12:30 on a weekday.
I ordered my chicken friend steak, mashed potatoes and green beans at the counter, sat down and waited for my meal to be delivered. The waitress soon brought my meal to me.
The serving size was ample and looked good. I tasted the mashed potatoes and cream gravy first, yum. The green beans were definitely canned even though the signage in the restaurant stated «fresh». The chicken fried steak was very disappointing. It was tough and the grease it had been fried in gave it a tainted taste. It was a disappointing meal. The restaurant’s décor is also very «tired» with torn carpet and ripped vinyl on the booths. It was kind of sad to see what I heard was one a very good restaurant fall from grace.

We just went to Sandy’s Restaurant for lunch! My wife ordered the Chicken fried Chicken with Mash Potatoes and a salad! She had to send this «lettuce cheese and tomato» salad back due to it having brown dead lettuce in the bowl!
I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak or should I say «Leather»… The crust was hard on my teeth and the inside meat was just extremely chewy/hard…We told the young waiter –which she didn’t care and she went and got the female manager (owner) she came over and saw that I had all of the steak besides a small bite had been taken out and I explained what the deal was and all she said was Ahhhhh and turned around and walked away! No Customer Service in her or he girl worker on staff! My wife and kiddos left there still HUNGRY with this being our first meal of the day! O Yeah I figured out now why they charge you upfront! You could tell that the green beans had been sitting up for awhile as well! The potatoes were very blah into you added salt and pepper! My son’s fries was good but his chicken strips were the same way — not good! What a waist of time and our hard working money! I guess this is why we were the only customers in the building… besides a woman that left upon our arrival!
We were trying to give a smaller business in our community a fair chance besides always going to a larger restaurant establishment! They need a total make-​over inside the building as well! Whoever gave this business the title for the BEST Chicken fried steak… needs a true WAKE UP CALL on quality food!!! It must have been a friend or family member! Str8UP!

Was in search of a good chicken fried steak w/​all the fixings. Sandy’s is not that great. I had the chicken fried chicken w/​mashed potato’s and corn. The other two with me had the chicken fried steak. The batter on both the chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak had an odd after taste, slightly bitter (I think the grease was a little old). The corn was very bland. I had to ask for butter to add to it, to make it taste good w/​a little salt. The people were really friendly, but I will not be going back.

Nothing bad to say, this is how a café should feel. Very welcoming, warm smiles, tasty food. I wish more people would give this place a shot, we were the only ones in the whole place.
But the food was made to order, not sitting around. Hot chicken fried steak (great breading, but needed a little salt), mashed taters and green beans. I love small cafés like this and I wish people would stop going to Applebee’s and chili’s. Give it a shot!,

Look forward to coming back & try something new on the menu. Didn’t leave room for dessert & they have a variety of pies. Nice relaxed atmosphere — felt like I was visiting family and came to eat a home cooked meal. Great service

This is a fantastic family-​run restaurant that makes you feel like mom cooked for you. Had the chicken fried chicken that was moist and very well seasoned. The fries are handcut and were out of this world! The mashed potatoes were creamy but not too heavy. In all in the food is delicious and the owners are so darn welcoming here. You can tell they put a lot of love into their food and restaurant. A big thumbs up!

It was good. My expectations for the chicken fried steak were high, given the emphasis on that specialty on their sign. I found it to be good chicken fried steak. But, it was not over the top like I had imagined it.
The staff was friendly and the service was awesome.

It’s just not good anymore. Sandy’s used to be the best chicken fried steak in town, but something has happened and it wasn’t good. In fact is was really bad. The steak and gravy were bland, the fries weren’t much better. The toast is still good at least. It’s really a shame, but I won’t be back.

I like supporting local restaurant but this place suck. Corn and greenbeans taste likes its fresh out of the can. The chicken fried steak is a disappointment… sorry but I’m not coming back. I feel bad about this place there trying very hard.

Famous chicken fried steak my butt. The corn had to have come straight out of a can, no butter, no flavor and very dry. The gravy was watery and basically everything was bland. Won’t be back.

Was looking around for some good olé’ home cooking in the great city of NRH and getting tired of Cotton Patch, my wife and I decided to check out Sandy’s.
I ordered the traditional burger with fries and I have to report that it was a fantastic burger! The burger was big and juicy and hot! The veggies were fresh and I lovingly chowed down every bit of it.
The food did take a while to get out considering we were 1 of 3 other couples in the whole restaurant, but based on the freshness and temperature of it, it must have been made seconds before it was brought out. My wife had the chicken fried steak and she REALLY liked it! The sides were hot and fresh and kind of tasted like my Mema’s.
We met Sandy herself and she was very sweet and thanked us for our meal. We love home cooking and we love local favorites, and we thought Our Place across the highway would be, literally «our place», but after eating at Sandy’s, THIS is our new place!

will not be back it is a mom an pop place but i have had better chicken fried steak at some many other places

We’ve been trying to get to Sandy’s for a little while, but didn’t have the opportunity until today.
At Sandy’s, you order at the counter, get a number, and your food comes out pretty quickly. I had a chicken strip basket, and was a decent portion — 4 strips, an ample amount of fries and some delicious Texas toast. The rest of the meal was lackluster — the chicken strips and fries had a weird aftertaste, like the grease had been hanging out in the fryer for entirely too long. Their kind of fries are the kind I usually enjoy, and think that maybe on another day it could be much better. Don’t know what we’ll give it another go, though.
