My wedding party and I went to the salon for hair and make up before my wedding. The staff was very accommodating and professional. The make up artists in particular were personable and fun to work with. Everything was great… until it came to my Maid of Honor’s hair. My MOH is a fabulous African American woman who wears her hair natural. When I had toured the salon before booking I asked if they had a stylist whose worked with that texture of hair before. They said they did. We sent pictures of what my MOH was considering. She even accompanied me to my hair and make up trial so the stylists could see what they are working with! We get to the salon and the moment my MOH sits down it becomes clear that the stylist didn’t know what to do. Apparently she’s worked with a hair crimper before? Um, not the same. The stylist tried very hard and was very nice, but the result just wasn’t great. On top of that, my MOH was charged $ 10 more! Not impressed. I hung back to voice my feedback but I don’t think they got it. A hair crimper and natural African American haute are not the same thing. If you can’t accommodate your client’s needs you should be upfront it.

They do very good Brazilians. It’s still painful but the girl who does it is very nice and outgoing. I was very disappointed in the custom facial they offer. I have had more thorough express facials in NYC. They did very few extractions(literally like 10) and completely missed my t zone. The lady booking my appt suggested the custom facial for the deep cleaning but it was nothing of the sort. I’m not sure if it’s because the girl was young and maybe not as experienced as other people I have gone to but not sure if it’s worth the risk of losing $$$ to find out if someone else there is better.

Salon Herdis is awesome! Had an incredible experience there yesterday. My 19 yo daughter decided to cut her very long hair off and go short. Carissa has never cut my daughter’s hair and could sense how nervous she was. It was great the way they worked through the experience together. The really incredible part was watching the whole team at Salon Herdis come together to help this client walk out with exactly the perfect haircut. Some salons are filled with competition and rancor between the stylists. Carissa welcomed the input of her co-workers and even stepped aside and let another stylist handle her shears for a bit of the process. I was awestruck to see such teamwork in an environment that can often he competitive. The folks at SH were only concerned with making sure the customer was satisfied. And she definitely was. Big kudos to Carissa(and Alex) for making sure my daughter’s haircut was just right. And huge congratulations to Linda Hannum for creating a salon environment that is filled with a supportive team. And to anyone out there who isn’t yet getting their salon needs taken care of at Salon Herdis — what are you waiting for? Go get pampered in a place that really cares about taking care of you.

My co-ed bridal party and I had a BLAST at Salon Herdis! Not only were the ladies who worked on our mani-pedi’s amazing, they were fun and in on the giddiness of the day. Natalie, Bambi, and Brittany… California loves you! Everyone at the salon was great and let us take over with our champagne and snacks. Needless to say our experience at Salon Herdis was the perfect beginning to an amazing wedding weekend. I cannot recommend this place enough for bridal parties looking for a fun and top-notch quality salon experience.

Got a Brazilian done here. The waxer was VERY outgoing and friendly. She did a pretty good job. However, they did forget to change the towel(by my head) from the person before me that(from the looks of the hair scattered all over it) apparently had gotten her eyebrows done.

I have very thick hair and was hoping that this salon would be able to work with it. I walked in and the receptionist was very nice. I did not have to wait long and the stylist was sweet as well. However, she seemed very confused when I asked her to pick my hair out before clipering it. I had to constantly remind her of what it was that I wanted(short on the top and the sides can stay the same). This made me nervous. I wasn’t too satisfied with the cut at all. I have been satisfied with their other services! I get my eyebrows waxed here and the woman does a great job. I have also gotten a brazilian wax and it was the most painless experience. Brittany was my aesthetician and she is very sweet! I got eyebrows, underarm, brazilian all for $ 90(I used a coupon). I would highly recommend them for skin/hair removal treatments!

I used Salon Herdis for manis and pedis for myself and my bridal party this August. They were extremely helpful and friendly in coordinating all of our various requests for french manicures and pedicures and standard mani/pedis. They dedicated two people to working on our nails. They were both so friendly and did a great job! We also appreciated that they were so nice about letting us take over the salon for a few hours. I would definitely recommend Salon Herdis for friendly, high quality service!

I had never been to Salon Herdis, but I had been wanting to do something different with my hair color for awhile. I made an appointment with Rebecca in conjunction with a promotion they were having for new clients. So glad I did! I met with Rebecca beforehand for a color consultation, and she had suggested ombré color, which I had just heard of a few days before. Her utmost concern was that I left the salon happy, and she went out of her way to make sure that happened. I’m thrilled with my hair, and I would definitely go back!

I came to Salon Herdis for a ladies afternoon with my best girlfriend. It was my belated Christmas treat for her, as well as myself. As a service industry worker, Mondays are my Saturdays, and I desperately searched for a salon that was reasonably priced while still looking good, that would be open for TWO back to back massage’s along with some other service. This search lasted me at least two and a half hours. Finally, I stretched my search beyond Connecticut, and looked in Northampton, one of my most beloved Massachusetts towns, and I found Salon Herdis, conveniently on Main Street. The website looked decent with lots of pictures, so I called. The receptionist was super friendly and helpful, working with me to organize my last-minute girls afternoon. I was able to book appointments for everything I wanted to do, on the date I had available. Upon arriving for our ladies day, we had no trouble finding the place. The inside was bright and modern, and it was super quiet. I got my first pedicure ever, and I thought it was fabulous. The staff was so friendly, and made me feel super comfortable. I had a simple pedicure(my toes love purple!) and a one-hour Swedish massage, and my girlfriend had a same massage and a deep-conditioning treatment and trim. The massage therapist was calming and quiet, and the session was amazing. All in all, this was an EXCELLENT mini-getaway. The only suggestions I would have are to offer maybe a few more services to their guests, however they do have limited space. We had a wonderful time, would DEFINITELY return, and would love to recommend this day spa /salon to others.

I started going to Salon Herdis 5 or 6 years ago when I was in college and I have been driving out there from Boston ever since. I really trust my stylist and have never been disappointed. I have gotten color, high lights and many different styles.

So I have to update my first review and note that Salon Herdis has gone through the some massive changes in the last year. Many of their most experienced stylists left to work at Salon 241, a place a few doors down owned by two former Salon Herdis employees. I’ve defected as well, so I’m not sure who they’ve got now cutting hair…

I am giving Salon Herdis only 2 stars because, although its nice, I was given a terrible haircut there. I first went 3 years ago and had a great experience with Christi, who left shortly after that. I can’t remember if I’ve been two or three times now, but I do know that when I returned from a year in Argentina(where the mullet is king) I was in desperate need of a haircut. Well, the guy who cut my hair assured me that he had the same exact hair as I have(long, fine, curly/wavy) and he knew what to do. We discussed the euro-mullet and how awful it was, and I walked out of there with ear-length layers tapering into overall long hair. It was HEINOUS! Ironically, I managed to escape the dreaded mullet over the course of my year in Mulletville/Buenos Aires, and upon return to the States was given my most mullet-esque cut ever! He clearly did not listen to anything I said, and gave me the worst haircut I have ever had. I have never cried so much, and I promptly replaced my broken Chi straightener($ 150) in order to tame the triangular volume he had given me, and maximize length. Furthermore, the usual lavender oil head massage was conspicuously missing from this experience, which had previously been a highlight – so points off for that. While I have heard great things about the esthetician there, and their mani-pedis seem nice, they are waaaay too pricey. I don’t see myself going back there EVER unless I were to splurge on a great Brazilian, but then again who knows if it would actually be that great? Because of my awful experience that has caused me to never want to go back, I really can’t give extra stars based on hearsay. And though I did have one good cut there it was totally eclipsed by the awful one(so maybe 2.5 stars max). I am someone who has a very hard time trusting hair stylists, so generally my experiences are negative, this one especially so.
