There are things to like about Tart — creative pies, decent bread, good cookies. A lot of bakeries have the tendency to put out pale, undercooked product, with little caramelization on the crust and gloppy, undercooked dough on the inside. Unfortunately, Tart tends to do the opposite. Fruit pastries where the filling has leaked out and burned to a charred, bitter black coating on the bottom. Little pies where the top has gone from pleasantly brown to dark and burnt. I’m a regular customer and I’ve learned to choose wisely, but I’m concerned that I keep seeing VERY burnt product offered for sale.

Almond mirange is amazingly good. Not too sweet. Best ever. Chocolate covered almonds also very good. A Diamond not to be missed in this small town.

This was a cool little bakery with a small but fresh selection of goodies. We scooped some rugelach, shortbread, and cupcakes. The rugelach was some of the best I’ve ever had, and I’d likely stop back when in town just for these. The shortbread was also buttery and flaky, and near perfect. The cupcakes, well, the cupcakes exist in a current world of superstar cupcakes, and unfortunately they weren’t at all memorable, but they were totally fine. The prices were a bit high, making Tart a difficult place to scoop pastries for a large crowd unless you have a hefty budget. However, it’s a cool place to grab a cup of coffee and personal pastry snack when you feel like indulging.

I am actually happy that my first ever Unilocal review is for Tart. I just moved to the area and needed some pastries for work. There were not a lot of options open before 9 so I was praying to the pastry gods that this place lived up to all of the reviews. I grabbed an assortment of items, including a chocolate croissant and apricot croissant. Let me tell you… one bite into my apricot croissant was nearly orgasmic… soooo good and buttery. I had coworkers stopping by my office all day asking whether Tart delivered. The pastries were just that good. This place will definitely be my go to bakery. Thanks Tart!

Great stuff. Narrow selection on pastries and breads but they get it all right. Croissants are great. They do a fantastic latte. The staff really, really are outgoing, friendly and professional.

Went here for the first time. I’ve walked past it many times but after it was closed. There’s not much room to set it is definitely more of a Takeaway place. They had a lot of cookies and some pastries and surprisingly they had a lot of savory pastries like meat pie and knishes. And luckily for me, having spent a substantial amount of time in England, they had sausage rolls! I ended up getting an espresso and a sausage roll and both were very very good. I haven’t tried any of their sweet pastries or some of the various fresh breads they had but they look good. The sausage roll was a little bit more price wise than I was expecting but it’s not something you should eat too often anyway so I’m not complaining. I’ll definitely be coming back

As someone who has spent a lot of time in France I can tell you the croissants here are as good as they get. The Almond Croissant is my favorite and may be the best I have ever had — anywhere. The plain and chocolate croissants are top notch also and stand up to any I have had. The apricot one was not my fave… but I don’t love apricots! Chocolate chip cookies are very good as are other cookies. The breads are excellent and very old world style. They also make meat stuffed pies which are delicious. The staff is super, very friendly and very Noho. If there are any negatives it is that the coffee is just average and you can’t really sit or hang out to eat your tasty treats. As a bakery however — this place is the bomb!

Really great pastries. Apricot croissant is my favorite. Definitely some of the best/most authentic and high quality baked goods in the area(along with hungry ghost, bread euphoria.) staff is sweet and hip. Wish there was more room inside to sit down and read but it’s more of a walk through type place.

croissants and pastries are outstanding. No question. Ciabattas and baguettes as well. Prices for full loafs are high(4.50 to 7.00) a small roll $ 1.50 …realllllly? Would be nice if there were some or simply a few items that would be more price point accessible for working class people. that’s how you introduce people to something new and really great, which you have. …It’s hard for many people to be able to appreciate the high quality when a roll is $ 1.50. Staff are very pleasant. I too want to be socially responsible and fully support food that is prepared freshly and without additives but with so many disparities in our culture… let’s not create a divide with food and turn food into something only the upper middle class and above can access. When I travel globally I see fresh and organic food sold everywhere in open air and farmers markets for so much less than I see here in the Valley and in the states. This should not be so That said this is a lovely bakery with very good product

I had one of their savory pies and it was delicious. There is a good selection and I chose the chicken poblano pie. It was the perfect size for lunch. It started with a flaky crust perfectly browned on top. The chicken was moist, soft and amazing. I have had many pies in my life and this one is at the top.

Baklava gets one star, the only worthwhile thing in there for me. Very sweet treat which few other cafes make. I’ve tried their delicious looking triple chocolate cookie, that only turned out so-so. & their almond meringue is okay, not bad but nothing special. Their other cookies, like their lemon cookie & oatmeal raisin are decent, but again, nothing special or worth eating again. Coconut balls are slightly better. So all this’ 2 stars for being not bad, edible, yet nothing special. & I take away one star for the worst cake I’ve ever had in my life, & an expensive one too. Dry chocolate sponge that scratches your throat, & frosting that’s way too buttery & sickly … It was for a special occasion, & incredibly disappointing. I’m not ever eating here again.

why didn’t I ever go in before? I discovered this place my last semester at Smith so the only way I got to try all you see in the pictures was by doing a «Tart Baking Co tasting» with Kady. We bought three or four things and talked about then, shared them, kept the rest for later. Yes, I can tell you right away that I am a big fan of this bakery. Their pastries and breads are made there and they always have different things to offer. Everything looked so so good; it was always hard to choose. Coming from France, I wondered if the almond croissant would be worth it. After trying it, I wanted to go in the back and congratulate the baker and pâtissier because it was better than some I’ve had in France. almond croissant — Great! The top was a bit thick but not too sweet. Fantastic job. chocolate hazelnut tart — not mind-blown over the crust. Chocolate tarts aren’t my favorite but this was good. apple & rosemary focaccia — yum! good flavors. Very interesting and delicious with homemade feel. sticky bun — More like a sticky croissant, really. Good, not the best(which would be Flour’s) jersey milk — apparently amazing. I’ve never seen that anywhere else… cream puff w/caramel — holy jesus was that delicious! 5 stars right there. black coffee — normal, decent coffee. Definitely better than Haymarket’s(sorry Haymarket…) Whenever I go back to Smith College for a reunion(which I hope I will be able to do) Tart will be a must. There are so many places I love going to in Northampton but if you’re around for a day or two, try to make it there for a treat in the morning or the afternoon. It’ll be worth it.

Came in for a free small coffee(it might have just been a discount, come to think of it, but I ended up getting it for free somehow. Yay!). I had an almond pastry per the suggestions here; it was good. I’ve had one of their brownies at Amherst Coffee and it was really good. Nice and dark for a dessert. I think I came here one of the last days of my last semester, so I remember it particularly fondly.

I’ve only been here once but am planning on returning. Most of the reviews seem to be about the baked goods. I had an almond croissant, which I thought was very flavorful and tasty. To me, what really sets this place apart is the coffee. I got a $ 5 cappuccino and while it is a little small and pricey, it’s quality makes up for it. The beans and the preparation are clearly on the mark. It reminds me of Intelligentsia Coffee. I will return again mainly for the coffee as a special treat though I wouldn’t go there regularly. It’s good to know where I can get a high end coffee when I want one.

This little shop looks like it serves baked goods skillfully crafted by artisans who care. I had wanted to try one of their chocolate croissants, which I had seen earlier in the day. But they were all out. I thought I was settling for the almond croissant, but it was fantastic. Fresh, flaky, buttery, with an enviable balance of light sweetness and almond flavor. Mmm; makes me happy just thinking about it. If I lived anywhere in the area, I’d be a regular visitor. Am sad to be too far away to try more of their goodies. Prices are average for this category, and well worth it.
