Concord Plaza Retirement Community

AMAZING! Simply AMAZING how Moms world has opened up since she left our family home of 54 years and moved to the Concord. She has been at CC for almost 1 ½ years now and she says she «loves it here «. Her life had become more reclusive as she couldn’t drive, lived in a single family home, outlived friends, and some of her kids lived far away… but Concord Place and the MANY wonderful and talented staff there have simply OPENED UP Moms world.
Competent nurses oversee med distribution and quite a bit of medical care and coordination, several types of Drs (podiatrist, dermatologist, optometrist) visit on site though you can keep your off site Drs if you prefer. CNA’s …can’t say enough about how Mom can rattle off the names of so many CNA that she likes a lot, she cares about and she has developed friendships with– without a doubt I see most of them as having a LOVE for the residence, they CARE about what they do and they give Mom a fuller more joyful life, as well as more peace of mind for us. CNA’s deserve special places in heaven.
Dining room staff… hard working, and as one who has eaten many meals there… much of the food is really good and VERY affordable for visiting family who wants to share a meal. Breakfast is a bit limiting but there is quite a bit of variety for lunch and dinner and the staff tries to make accommodations for special requests.
Again, Moms knows many of the dining room staffs names and she thus has many more folks to say «Hi» to. The dining room is one of the many centers of social life at CC, but… there is sooooo much more. Front desk staff, activities, sales, Finance department, maintaninace dept… everyone has some real stars on staff who engage with and help out the resident.
Endless groups engage in activities, be it bingo, sewing, movies, dancing, cocktail hour with entertainment, off site trips to Garfield Park etc. There are many CC organized activities, but the residence themselves spearhead scrabble, or later night card games as well.
Last week the theater was transformed into an Interesting lounge atmosphere, dimmed light, mirror ball, colored lights, a DJ (he lives there) and dancing. YES you can be in a wheelchair like one gal, and can fly into the theater room and dance with whatever parts of your body can swing about ! It was an AMAZING time and the residence thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Now the residents, SO MANY of them really look out for each other in the way friends should look out for friends. I have enjoyed getting to know them and to care about them, they can also give you insight and advice to assist your loved one as they get accustomed to living in a different environment .
Maybe I sound like a commercial, but after seeing Moms world open up, I thought it was time to spread the word about how much CC has done for her, and for us!
So why not 5 stars, well, last trip I had a complaint about 1 thing and asked the director to address, and he is checking into that, and hopefully will soon fix… plus I work in the hospitality industry, it’s pretty hard to get 5 stars!

My father has been here for a year, and he loves it. I love that he loves it. He has made a lot of good friends, and stays busy. I would say he has more of a social life and sees his friends more often than he EVER did when he lived outside of Concord. If you knew my hermit, borderline anti-​social, somewhat-​socially-​awkward father, you would understand how big a deal this is to me. Still highly recommend the place, even a full year later.

We recently went with a soon to be retired relative to visit this site’s independent living facility. We had a wonderful experience with the Tony the coordinator. He went over everything one could possibly need to know about retirement communities and retiring. It was refreshing to have someone so knowledgeable and comprehensive walking her through this very confusing and tough time. We want to commend the staff for showing us around and the cleanliness of the facility, although she choose another place to live. Thanks again to Tony and the Concord for making this a good experience.
