Still bad service. Hasn’t change that still(I feel stupid for keep coming here! It’s the only Peruvian restaurant near my job), I know there is only one person I get it! But at least i would love to get the menu please? I just came here to get a order of papa a la huancaina and a side of rice. But I’m leaving(still standing here as I type this). The owner/chef/waiter mr. Mario(that’s his name) did eye contact with me and didn’t say anything. COMPLETELYIGNORED!!! 10 min standing there and nothing. I recommended a lot of people here just for the food, but I always I aware them, SERVICESUCKS! Maybe cuz I’m not white with blue eyes I get that service.

if there’s one thing I love it is Peruvian food. After visiting Peru I grew very fond of Anticuchos and cerviche. Most Peruvian restaurants do anticuchos, which is grilled beef heart, but few do it well. This place does some of the better anticuchos that I’ve had in the U.S. Word of advice for other anticucho aficionados here in the states. if your ever in Peru you gotta go here: Ok, enough of that. The anticuchos here are pretty darn good. Good sized pieces of beef heart and not over cooked which is what I have encountered numerous times at other restaurants. The cerviche was good too. Most peruvian restaurants seem to make good cerviche so thats pretty common. I would say if your craving peruvian and live in the area stop on by. Make sure you order the anticuchos. You will not be disappointed.

Higly recommened. A very traditional culture with a friendly and enthustastic service. The food itself is very good considering that it is a somewhat restraunt. Very good place to dine with the family.

I had never tried Peruvian food prior to coming here. I met a very cute Peruvian woman yesterday who told me, «nothing out here is quite like home… Except this one place down Pioneer». She directed me here and told me to try the Lomos Saltado and described it as «carne asada strips over French fries with sauteed onions and veggies». More than enough to piqué my interest. Oh course I went to try it out and walked into a hole-in-the-wall, ma and pop looking little spot. A few elder gentleman greeted my friends and I with open arms and hearts. I immediately felt welcomed and they brought out our food in a very timely manner. I can’t say enough about how delicious it was! I got their cards and gave them out to a bunch of friends insisting that they go there and try the food. I now wish to insist the same to you, fellow Unilocaler. The place is quaint, the food is incredible and the people are awesome! Give it a try. You’ll thank me.

I’m giving this place 1 star. Maybe a little generous? The food averages about a 2, but the price would refelect the quality of 4 or 5 star food. It’s definitely not worth the price. I thought it cool to have a neighborhood Peruvian restaurant to go to. However, after giving it a go two times, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is not as i thought for the following reasons: –mediocre food –high prices –no bread! For the green sauce –not a very nice looking place/area –penny pinching ownership –rude lady owner –green sauce has no flavor P.s. They charge an arm and a leg for the sauces that any other Peruvian restraunt would give free! I attached a picture of the sauce they sneakily charged me $ 2 for!!! $ 2!!!

This is My all time favorite Peruvian restaurant. The food is unbelievably good. Order anything, all the dishes are winners. The place is a hole in the wall family restaurant, but the food is just amazing. I drive one hour to get here and is worth every minute. Discover this culinary treasure and taste genuine Peruvian food

It was good. They only had one woman working at the front so we didn’t get our drinks until after we got the food. We received our food super fast and that was great!

Steak and Egg with Fried Plantains was delicious! I came here with friends and was able to taste a little bit of everything including the bistec al saltado which was also amazing. I will definitely come back and try some of their other entrees soon.

Only come to this place if you want to lose a few pounds. One of my best friends is Peruvian and has shown me a few great restaurants. When I heard one was opening so close to my job I thought I’d try it… never again. I ended up taking the rest of the day off due to violent food poisoning.(I had the beef anticuchos)

We ‘ve been coming here for years and i gotta say it has never dissapointed me, this is probably the only peruvian restaurant who actually has real anticuchos which thats what i usually eat with my family along with combinado pancita y rachi which is also very authentic with their rocoto sauce super delicious with all that for sure i broke my diet lol their chicha morada which they also make its not from a bottle, im peruavian so im super picky about my food and drinks, service was amazing, tonight the person who took care of us was the owner’s son and he was making sure that we were happy and we were not missing absolutely nothing, the owners brother was very caring suggesting what he could cook for my grandma which was fried fish with rice and salad, my grandma ate everything, i highly recommend this place thanks for your hard work guys ! :) we will be back soon :)

I was pretty excited to eat in this place given the overall great Unilocal reviews. However, I went there and the first thing I noticed was that the place could be a lot cleaner. Then customer service was poor and did not feel comfortable eating there. The owner was a bit rude. He did not offer us chips or anything while we waited for our food. He never checked on us… Also, when asked for natural water, he gave us bottled water(!?). To top it off, I ate my food and a few minutes later, I had stomachache for a few hours-horrible. My partner felt the same way as well. My conclusion: Not coming back. Not recommending it. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This review is coming from a Unilocaler that appreciates trying different cuisines BUT has never really tried any Peruvian restaurants before. I have a Peruvian friend and have tried their home cooked food on several occasions, but that was so long ago that this was almost my first encounter with Peruvian food after all these years. I stopped by during lunch time with a couple of people I work with, and the atmosphere was definitely very welcoming. The owner himself came by and explained the menu very extensively. There were many options and we were having a tough time deciding what exactly to get, but we ended up with two lomo saltados, a tallarind saltados, and tallarind con bistec. I’m not a fan of onions at all, so I ended up getting the tallarind verde– which is essentially noodles made with spinach. It was really good and though the noodles were a bit soft for my liking, the overall taste was undeniably«greens-tasting» which was a nice touch. The aji sauce was amazing and I literally drenched all of my food in it because it adds just the right amount of flavor in EVERYTHING. I’m usually not a huge fan of beef, but their steaks were cooked very nice and tender. Delicious! There was another sauce that was filled with green onions, and I’m not sure what it was but it was definitely much spicier and added a good kick to our food! I’ll definitely be visiting this joint again whenever I’m in Norwalk, and the fact that it’s a local mom and pop shop makes me want to support the business even more. If friendly local family business and good food is what you’re looking for– look no further :)

BOMBDOTCOM! I had the pescado a lo macho. The sauce was SO amazing. Savory, spicy & crack like. Seafood galore w/breaded fish. Mmmmmm. The side of rice was really yummy too. Cooked to perfection & seasoned well. Friend had the pesto pasta w/steak. I tried the pasta & it was amazing as well. Tried the piccarones for the first time for dessert. It reminded me of funnel cake. Would’ve been 10x better with vanilla ice cream. Minus half a star for not having bread & minus another half for probably the worst aji sauce I’ve ever had :(. It was super watery & was not spicy. It didn’t even taste like aji sauce. It tasted like some kinda mustard? But I didn’t mind THAT much, cuz my entrée was that good. Everyone here talks about the rude owner. I didn’t have a problem with him, he was actually quite nice to us. Def coming back!

Giving 1 star based on service. I’m Peruvian and was craving some ceviche and Lomo Saltado. It was about 8:30pm when I started Unilocaling and found that most places closed at 9:00pm. So I was so happy to find this place Bc supposedly it opened till 10:00pm. Drove all the way from Griffith Park, pulled into this hole in the wall restaurant… which I didn’t mind so much… It was about 9:10 and the door was locked. I could see the employees and people eating in there so I knocked on the door. No one even acknowledged me. I called and they said, «sorry, we’re closed» I said, «but your hours say you are open until 10pm.» The guy responds, «no, we closed already.» It made me so mad! I had to settle for chipotle! I don’t know if I will ever go back to give it a try.

BEWARE-I dunno fellow Unilocalers this one was an EPICFAIL, dont believe the hype. Mom & pop restaurant, Mrs greeted us on entry & told us to sit wherever. After reading several reviews I was excited to try this peruvian restaurant. After taking our drink & food orders we sat & waited, me thinking about it being such a small quaint cozy place I would«assume» the same if not better service from this location. CONS — No bread served like other Peruvian restaurants, bummer. — I had to flag the lady down AFTER she brought our meals for our drinks that she had still not brought to us. — Lomo Saltado was dry, fries semi cooked, rice was hard & cold, no flavor all around.(Worst tasting ever) — Never checked on us to see if we needed anything PROS — NOTHING I would NEVER come back here nor would I recommend this no flavor, dry, tasteless, & non-existence customer service location to anyone.

Craving for lomo saltado with egg, Mario’s Peruvian is too far from my office and i would waste my 30 mins lunch break. Off to Unilocal i go, type in Peruvian, current location, voila! Less than a mile away and super near to chase bank. Ordered my lomo saltado with 2 eggs, picked it up after i deposited my cheques. The place was empty… but one of the table had food left over so that’s a good thing. My order was ready when i got there so its quick. The dish was flavorful, beef however is not as soft as mario’s. the red onions were sweet as heck. A couple of downside other than the chewy beef, rice was way than a day old, egg is overcooked, yolk was well done, i like my egg runny. But flavor wise, it’s on point. I’d order it again IF the craving is bad and I dont want to go far. $ 13.61 is fairly expensive for lunch so this aint happening all the time.

Review #100, woohoo! If you’re looking for authentic Peruvian food, here’s your place! This tiny hole in the wall joint is hands down my favorite Peruvian food establishment, outside of my own kitchen. When you come here, order the specialty — the anticuchos, or marinated beef heart skewers. You’ll get a serving of choclo and papas(corn and potatoes) with the skewers, and I completely recommend washing it all down with some house chicha morada(tasty corn drink) and I must recommend that you ask for the aji to spread on your potatoes and the tender meat skewers — trust me, you won’t be sorry. The aji is mildly smoky with a sweet little kick to it that everyone I know finds irresistible. The other thing I like ordering from here is the Papa a la Huancaina, a potato dish served with hard boiled egg and a creamy cheese sauce. When I’m in serious need of comfort food, this is the stuff, baby! Weekends this little place boasts a breakfast menu that I’ve heard is really good, but I haven’t tried it yet. Oh, and if the phrase ‘beef heart’ scares you, man up and give it a shot — you’ll be very pleasantly surprised. Parking is best sought on the street, and is very limited. Don’t show up in a ride that has easily removeable hubcaps either. It’s in Norwalk, y’know?
