The place was horrendously filthy, the woman at the desk was rude, and the nurse was bumbling around in the room, tripping over junk laid out precariously in the hallway and the exam areas. Dr. Hernandez was nice, but didn’t even do any kind of thorough examination. I had very obvious tonsillitis with humongous white craters and cracks on my tonsils with horrific pain. He never bothered to check my mouth because the nurse had«already taken are of it», and said it was a virus. He prescribed me nothing. When I was forced to get a second opinion at Day Kimball in Plainfield(a place that is efficient, CLEAN, and affordable), the doctor essentially informed me that my previous doctor was a moron, and that I clearly had tonsillitis, and an antibiotic was needed. It started to clear within 2 days. West Side Medical Center cost me $ 120.00 out of pocket, and they did ABSOLUTELYNOTHING. That place is a rat hole.

Like most walk-in medical centers, you can expect to wait at least an hour at this place. If you have an appointment, they’ll usually get you in an exam room on time. How fast you’re seen by the doctor or nurse practitioner after that is hit or miss. I recently went for a walk-in and was second in the door at opening at 8 a.m. I was brought into one of the exam rooms fairly quickly, but I did not leave until shortly after 9 a.m. Bring your iPad, DS, whatever, and expect for a significant wait. If you go on the same day that you have work, make sure you give yourself a significant window of time. I like Dr. Viswanathan and Dr. Hernandez. I’m a patient there… and yet I just called to book a simple vaccination appointment and was told I can’t be seen for two whole weeks. The receptionist urged me multiple times to do a walk-in, but I know if I do that, it will be a 1 – 2 hour ordeal. I’m going to Walgreens instead. It should be an in-and-out thing. I’m in the process of looking for another doctor — ideally one that is not at a walk-in medical center. It’s too much of a time-suck, and it’s too frustrating overall. I also find that the receptionists at this particular location are hit or miss in terms of friendliness.

This place is a typical for-profit doc shop. I need a gp in the area while I am living in the area and this place was close. I had one physical and was seen for migraines. The nurse practitioner is a lovely lady and if she were in a different practice I would have no problem seeing her again. The doctor I saw and a believe in charge of the office is a cold fish. My physical lasted 5 minutes, did not go over test results just said they were ok, and asked twice if I needed to see an ob/gyn for birth control. I had asked for a couple of things specifically on the blood tests and got no answers, I had my tubes tied 7yrs ago and told them that, and never once asked about birth control. The billing and front desk staff take the damn cake. I have student insurance and state insurance. Whatever student does not cover state picks up. I have it all coordinated and linked on state side like they need to be, I gave them the new insurance card I got at the beginning of the semester for the student coverage so I had done what I needed. Next 3 – 4 months have been spent trying to get the office to submit the claim with the new student id card information, them telling me they had not been paid when they had and then today having to call the lab service because the office did not tell them I had secondary insurance for the remainder of the bill. The ladies at the desk and billing are rude, snarky and not helpful. I finally had the student insurance operator I was trying to clear things up with call the office and explain things. This office is not worth the hassles. I will be driving further away to a better practice in Mystic. If you have an urgent need go to the ER
