The Key Room

I wanted to have a very special birthday party for my husband who is struggling with a serious medical diagnosis. I also didnt want it to cost an arm and a leg. I needed a venue for 60+ people and after calling around Marin to some very expensive venues that had me hyperventillating, i stumbled upon the Key Room.
What a find! First of all the room was lovely and had french doors opening to a lovely vista. The food was great… Well prepared, unusual and interesting choices and beautifully presented. The wait staff was excellent. professional, courteous and extremely responsive. In between courses we had a video and speeches and I appreciated that courses were served and cleared quickly to allow for our agenda.
Now for the best part… This is a program from Homeward bound. The very professional staff are all part of their program to train previously homeless people in the culinary arts. These people are trained not to be cooks but professional chefs and are trained from the ground up by some of the best chefs in the country. My husband was homeless himself 39 years ago and is very active in 12 step programs. So as I thanked the staff I thought how grateful I was that my husband’s life had come full circle and the people who, like my husband, were turning their lives around were able to be acknowledged for their value and contribution to my husband on that day.
I also want to mention that Viki Card the coordinator for the Key Room was a mind reader and barely needed to hear what I wanted and she got the whole picture and ordered exactly what I wanted.
Oh and the price… wait for it… I paid less for the whole event including linens, setup, a/​v system, FOOD from appetizers, salads, main course, custom birthday cake… than i would have just to rent a comparable venue in Marin without catering.
This would be a lovely venue for a wedding reception for a young couple with the good sense not to get into debt over their reception or any kind of social gathering and I recommend it highly.

I have attended several events in «The Key Room». It is a beautiful space … comparable to anything in Marin… with access to an outdoor patio as well when the weather is good … and the room can be used for almost anything as it has full audio video support, internet, and a full view of where the food is custom prepared for your particular event.
I attended a beautiful wedding reception. and a couple of chef events with star chefs who were teaching as well as preparing food. i also attended a graduation event.
The cherry on the sundae is that you are also doing social good booking this particular venue as the Fresh Starts Cooking school is housed and provides culinary training when «The Key Room» is not in use.

Went to an event at The Key Room a few weeks and it was fabulous! The food great, especially the mushroom appetizers, butternut squash lasagna and the strawberry shortcake. I like that the organization holding the event was able to bring their own wine in as I felt like I was supporting the organization. The staff was especially nice and helpful. Thanks for a great evening!
