I’ve been here twice since they opened, both times I got the Chimichanga and cheese quesadilla. It was phenomenal. Very good flavor, great amount of food for the cost, and delicious. My son loved his quesadilla with rice and beans kids meal. Almost all of the staff is very friendly and helpful. Clean, open, and beautiful establishment. I will definitely be back to try more. Been here 10 times now, it’s close by and delicious, very affordable. I’ve now tried the fajita salad(highly recommend), fajitas(so much meat!), and the Queso. It’s all delicious. Food quality is always good and very consistent. The service is hit or miss depending on which server you get, but the majority of them are fantastic. I especially enjoy that the owner comes to say hello to all of the tables at dinner time. Really shows it’s a family owned business and close to heart for them.

For«st louis mexican» it was pretty darn good. We dont have many choices in STL for good mexican and this is a pleasant change from the norm in STL. Tried the shrimp fajita and probably the best shrimp fajitas ive ever had. Big juicy shrimp. Queso fundito and regular cheese dip were good too.

I’ll sum it up: —Slooow service –meh, just ok food –Overpriced($ 17 bucks for 3 small fish tacos, a chili releno and a soda! To much for me for a weekday lunch). Service: Basically the service was sloow,(and the place for lunch time on a Friday only had about 4 tables occupied). The servers just kind of stood around playing with their I-phones in the background just out of site and were not busy but also not attentive. I had to wave them down for water refill, then again for a chip refill,(because it was taking so long for the food to come out.) Food: 3 small fish tacos, dry, shredded fish?.. mixed with dry cabbage and a tiny dab of unknown sauce which was only on one of them that I could tell… more cabbage than fish. Tasted plain and boring. Cost as mentioned above is quite outside of a typical lunch budget, esp for what I got. I could have made this meal at home for like $ 2. Chips and salsa were good but nothing special and typical for this type of place.

Just had dinner and enjoyed our meals and the service was good. Saul was very attentive and a fine young man. We live just around the corner and look forward to this being a regular place to go. Oh and as mentioned on other reviews, the margaritas are great!

Just alright, food was tasty but was warm, lights extremely bright, no background music. Sat at table 6, tried to put us in the bright room which came off as being in a school cafeteria. With all the Mexican places on Hwy K, they need to step it up

Service was horrendous! Our order wasn’t right and we couldnt find our server to get it corrected. Food was marginal at best. Not hot yet not cold. Took approximately 20 minutes after we ordered to be served. Flavor profile was nothing special, for Mexican it was actually pretty bland. There are much better restaurants with better Mexican food in the area. Price was very reasonable which I guess is worth mentioning.

We love mexican cuisine! We typically like to sit at the bar, so we did and service was exceptional. The food was amazing, I did the fajitas and my husband got the tacos. All was great! The margarita was fantastic! The family is great and really friendly! We can’t wait to go back!

Don’t waste your money with all the other Mexican choices around the area… Service was terrible. Waiting 20 minutes after ordering drinks before we had to ask another employee to find our waiter to take our food order. Chips and salsa were always full, but the chips were stale and the salsa had no flavor. The house margaritas were excellent. Refills on water with our margaritas had to be asked every time. The food took another 30 minutes to come out which is surprising for Mexican. I had the steak chimichanga. Had so little meat for the price. The steak had decent flavor but there was so little, tasted like nothing more than a fried tortilla. Everyone else at our table had something different. All said it was very bland with very little flavor. The building itself is a poor design. 3 strip mall shops combined. Center section where we sat was extremely bright it was uncomfortable. Hoping that since it is new that what we experienced is just«newness» and they can get their act together.

This place is quite new and very large with plenty of room to accommodate a large party. We had dinner last week on a Tuesday and the service was exceptional. Our waiter brought our margaritas out quickly and the chips and salsa were very good – albeit a little spicy for my daughters. We quickly ordered from the expansive menu and I let our waiter pick my entrée. «Make me what you’d make your family if they ate here» is what I told him. The quality of the food was great – except the steak was a little tough and chewy. The manager came over and spoke with us before we left and was welcoming and warm. We’ll definitely be back!

The atmosphere was very Mexican. The food came out quickly. The food was fantastic. I got the lunch special chimichanga with a beef enchilada. The chimichanga was so good, and the beef enchilada was just ok. Service was adequate. Could’ve been better. Overall good experience and would probably go back.

Jose’peños is my new favorite family owned Mexican restaurant. I have not had anything on their menu that is not fantastic! The family have really out done themselves with making their clientele feel like part of their family. Service has been wonderful every time that I have been in. I most definitely will be coming back.

We really wanted to like this place but unfortunately the service was awful. After placing our drink orders we didn’t see our server again for another 20 minutes. When we did finally get to order our food, it was another 45 minutes before receiving it. It came out luke warm and wrong. No apologies from the staff for the wait. Understandably, there are some kinks to work out as a new restaurant but the servers were walking around aimlessly and seemed oblivious to the fact that the food orders were taking so long.

The food just wasn’t anything special. I had the tortilla soup and there wasn’t any layers of flavor. I could have made better. The chimichanga was topped with white cheese that congealed very quickly. My husband did like that they offered a chorizo burrito.

Service service service! That’s what this place needs to work on! We went the first week this place was open, which I understand the place is new l, so I naturally didn’t expect the best service in the world. HOWEVER, there’s certain level of respect that you should have for your customers that every restaurant should have regardless of how new they are. My wife and I went on a Friday night, so of course they were a little busy. We told the hostess we had a party of two and she said it would be like 10 minutes. «Okay» I said, «We’ll sit and wait at the bar.» She then gave me a rather odd look and I blew it off at the moment and didn’t think anything of it. We sat at the bar and waited for 15 – 20 minutes and no one ever came to ask if we even wanted a drink. While waiting at the bar I noticed the hostess, who apparently was also a waitress and barback was complaining about the overflow of people at the bar who weren’t ordering any food. This began to irritate me. Not only could I not order a drink much less an appetizer, but I was being complained about by the person who is responsible for my lack of drinks and food in front of me. After her wining to her co-worker, who was apparently a manager, he then came over and asked that anyone not eating at the bar to please leave the bar area so they can accommodate guests that would be eating. I replied with a rather angry tone in my voice,” my wife and I have been sitting here for twenty minutes and no one even asked if we wanted a drink!” At this point my wife wanted to just leave but we toughed it out and were then seated immediately after they gave me a drink. Our service after being seated was a bit shotty but better then our bar experience. The food to my surprise was really good and the margarita was delicious. As mad as I was/am at this place for the level of ignorance to customer service they have, the food was pretty damn good. Salsa especially. It may be a while before I go back, but I hope this review will be seen by someone in the restaurants chain of command who can fix this problem, because they have the potential to become a successful business if they fix their customer service issues. Also one other thing to point out is the atmosphere, it’s very blah. Need some more décor and table lighting would be good rather then the bright CFL tube lights they are currently using.

This is my first ever two star review on Unilocal and based on the food it’s sad that I have it gets such a low rating but the service was really that bad. I’ll make a long story short in saying that it took 20 minutes from the time we were seated by the hostess to get our drink order taken. 45 minutes from the time we were sitting down to get our drinks and chips and salsa(also ordered queso which you would think would expedite the process). And about an hour and a quarter to get our food. Waiter was friendly but was wondering around like a fawn looking for its mother. Polite kid but man… was he slow. Atmosphere was described by a member of our party as that of a high school cafeteria and I definitely saw the resemblance after being pointed in that direction. So overall they need major cosmetic work and major work on the service. The food was its saving grace. Honestly it was pretty good as I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and the chicken chimichanga. Marg was slightly better than El Maguey but the chimichanga was not as good as I’ve experienced there. Food was rock solid, service was some of the worst I’ve ever had in terms of urgency so unfortunately I probably won’t be going back and I’d recommend that you’d do the same.

Food was prepared well and had great flavor, margaritas were outstanding, and the server did a good job even though the kitchen took a while to prepare the food. 3 stars because staff still needs to work the bugs out since they just opened a week ago. But I hope to see them again in the future!

Don’t miss this Mexican hot spot… fresh, new, and great food. Walking in there were people everywhere, no worries this place is huge. Don’t be discouraged by crowds of cars they have plenty of tables in 3 large rooms. Try the salsa verde, it’s spicy but great flavor. House margaritas are legit… Made the way you’d expect of a top shelf. We enjoyed a bowl of soup, and the pollo fun fido can’t wait to come back. Convenient location, very clean, prices are more than reasonable, give this place a try.
