We went around 10:30 pm, and there was a long line. However, the line moved pretty quick, but we still had to wait another 5 mins after ordering. We got the Charlie ice cream(honey dipped donut with vanilla ice cream) and a supreme cake donut. The supreme was a cake donut dipped in chocolate and then covered in crunch. It was a little too sweet for us, but the Charlie ice cream was fantastic. I’m not much of a donut expert, but this is not the best donuts I’ve had. However, if you’re in town, it’s worth trying.

I wish this place was still a secret. Go at the right time and you’ll be fine, go at the wrong time and you’ll be waiting in a Walt Disney World line. Still the donuts are fantastic. The shoulder seasons are the only time I try going now.

So totally worth the wait! Fresh baked and warm donuts and fritters. Bring some friends to keep you company in line. They will think you’re crazy for waiting so long until they try it — and then they’ll understand!

When you go to MV you must go here. If you don’t, you are missing out on the full MV experience. Back Door Donuts is located in the back ally way. During the day you’ll find Martha’s Vineyard Gourmet Café’ & Bakery. At night, from 7:30 — 12:58 you’ll find Back Door Donuts. They sell donuts out of the back door. Literally. Bring cash, and a sweet tooth. They have about 10 different kinds. Chocolate glazed, cinnamon sugar, honey dipped, crunch(my favorite) sprinkles and so on. They have cones and ropes out because people line up. Yes you heard me. You might have to wait for a delicious morsel. I will let you know, they are good. They are ok, They are THE best when they are fresh and warm. I’m not even a huge donut fan. Prices range from $ 1.25−3.00 per donut. Enjoy!

I’m not sure how to describe this in words. Only available at night, there’s a crazy line through the parking lot to grab these delicious delicacies. We got the chocolate glazed, crumble, and sprinkle. All re-donk. Picture the soup nazi meets donuts, but friendlier. You step us, tell them what you want, they disappear for a while, and come back with the goods. The regular donuts are $ 1.25 but they could charge way more. Not that they should, but people would not be dismayed. They’re so good after a good meal, or after way too many drinks. Party on, Back Door. Party on.

The food here is always good. What’s better than warm donut or a warm fritter?! Why not five stars you ask? As with most places on the island, the service is unfriendly. The food is so good that I’ll keep going back even though the staff is rude.(how sad)

It was late at night the weekend before labor day and right after Obama left, so Oak Bluffs was relatively cleared out, hence a very short line. Although I was so full from Red Cat, I was practically being rolled down the street, I could not resist. The honey dipped donut was warm and soft and smelled delicious. I inhaled the thing and wished I had three more. A glazed donut is my litmus test of a proper donuteria, and this place passes with flying colors. Can’t wait to try more of them next time I am in town.

7PM and the line is queued up in the back alley on Circuit Avenue… you wonder what is going on… is it a secret that you don’t know about? Well, of the smell of warm sugar wafting in the air isn’t a hint as to why scores of folks are standing in line at night… then you’re not in the know… but, I’m about to tell you… just get in line and pretend and when you get through the line and the person says, «next!»…just hand them over $ 4.50 and say, «Apple Fritter!» Don’t question it just do it and you’ll thank me later for sharing the secret… and you’ll later understand why you spent so much money on an apple fritter…

Maple bacon… NOT fake maple, NOT bacon bits from a canister… REALBACON. and it is so sinfully delicious you will commit at least 3 counts against the ten commandments. I also tried honey dipped and buttermilk. I’ve had better buttermilk. My friends had the apple fritter and it was damn remarkable. I highly recommend as well. Try to not have eyes bigger than your stomach.

Apple fritter lived up to the hype. They technically start serving at 7:30 and we lined up at 7:00. They started serving customers a little bit earlier(7:15 or 7:20). Highly recommend. Come hungry!

By far the best donuts I’ve ever had!!! Not greasy, super soft and when warm are a revelation! 45 minute line? Who cares! Get your butt in line and get some donuts! Coconut and apple fritter are by far the best.

YESPLEASE! Like the reviews say, best donut of my life and considering they are homemade and not loaded with preservatives like Dunkin, even more points! I did try the coffee roll too which was just as good. The coconut and glazed donuts were both SOOOOO friggin good! Go mid-day in the summer and there is NOLINE! They also have cute little boxes so you can save some for later!

I went a little before midnight and the line wasn’t too long. We went the night before and they ran out of everything except the colossal apple fritters. I got the bacon donut«Charlie» with ice cream, chocolate syrup and it was heavenly! Donut prices are reasonable but the specialty items are a bit higher. This is definitely a quintessential martha’s vineyard oaks bluff late night experience CASHONLYESTABLISHMENT!

Mr T(remember him?) says, «I pity the fool who visits this island and doesn’t get in line near midnight to get a donut.» There’s a good vibe here: happy drunks, young and old singles, townies, and people with the munchie. Go there ! Jacket and tie not required.

After the Internet, Unilocal & my dad all recommended Back Door Donuts, I knew that I had to try this place. My fiancé & I ended up ordering two apple fritters, one butternut donut & one maple bacon donut — yes this was just for the two of us… The apple fritters are about the size of a baseball glove so it’s better to share than try & conquer on your own(take it from me). The chunks of apples dispersed in the fritter was a nice surprise with each bite. The maple bacon donut was amazing but I mean it’s bacon so of course it’s amazing. The butternut donut was perfect for dessert because it had just the right amount of sweetness. Just be prepared to wait 30+ minutes for these bad boys. But believe me, it’s worth it!

These are the best doughnuts. Even if you don’t get them fresh they’re awesome. It’s right in the heart of Oak Bluffs, if a little hidden.

Fantastic apple fritters and cinamon roll, fluffy with a bit of that perfect chewiness in the dough. Eat it when it comes out hot or cooled off a bit. It is still excellent after 25sec in the microwave the next day as well. Both are sweet without being too sugary with an excellent blend of the savory from the apple or cinnamon respectively. The lemon donut is quite zesty and tangy. I thought it was pretty good. The shop is a very convenient walk distance from some of the local dining and club establishments so drop by and grab some after your dinner and then head out clubbing.

Five stars for the apple fritter still warm and oh so delicious. Cash Only! Back Door Donuts is the name for the after hours business of M.V. Gourmet Café & Bakery where they offer their freshly baked wares daily from 7:30 pm and 12:58 am at their literal back door by the Post Office. Cash Only! When I asked someone for directions to Back Door Donuts, he responded with, «Oh, you’re going to stand in that 100 foot long line?» Yup, it is well known. Cash Only! We got in line shortly before 7pm and were pleased to find that the back door opened for business a bit earlier than advertised. The line wasn’t that quick moving, but we were happy to receive our bagged baked goods in hand in exchange for our greenbacks and change. Cash Only! When we tucked in, the apple fritter was still warm and yummy. It was huge, and somewhat pullapart, like a monkey bread in a way. For $ 4.50 it was about the size of three of their cake donuts, and well worth it! Cash Only! One friend equated their butternut crunch white cake donuts $ 1.25 to those of Dunkin Donuts(aka, nothing special), but the maple bacon raised dough donut $ 2 was a mix of savory smokey bacon and sweet maple glaze. Cash Only! When next I visit, I’m definitely getting the apple fritter again. And maybe I’ll try one of their other raised dough creations. If I’m feeling extra gluttonous, perhaps that donut Charlie-fied(aka served as a sundae for $ 5). Cash Only! Go! But go with cash in hand, as they are Cash Only!
