This is one of the better locations and restaurants in the area, this location has a no thrills or bs customer service style, that gets my order right(so far). I recommend the Five guys hot dog though pricey it is friggin good.

Another day, another 5G. Lucky for me, this Oak Park location is roughly 2 minutes walking distance from mi casa. I’m glad I can expect(and count on) a quality burger and chill employees every time. Like all 5G, there’s peanuts aplenty to snack on while you wait and a Coke Freestyle machine for your mix-n-match enjoyment. The price is equivalent to what you’d pay for a meal at Meatheads or Smashburger. My go-to is something I dubbed ‘The Firebreather’, which consists of a double bacon cheeseburger with jalapenos and hot sauce, hold the onions and mushrooms. The robustness of Five Guys’ burgers has never let me down, and the cajun-dusted fries are always hot and tasty. I once got a hot dog, and while not as satisfying as a loaded bacon chee, it wasn’t half bad. But yes, as Yvonne pointed out, they really ought to serve shakes.

I don’t love this place. First, it seems expensive. A burger and fries could be 12 bucks. This place could be worth it but I much prefer burgers that are flame broiled. The restaurant itself was cold as was its appearance. I don’t see us going back.

It’s 5 guys. Yeah it’s a little pricey but your getting a lot of bang for your buck. Very generous with the fries and the burgers actually taste like their made with real meat. Also crazy soda selection. Be careful if you have a peanut allergy as they are given out for free. If you want a good burger this is where you go.

Service is fine but I think five guys in general is overrated. Bland fries and even with the cajian spice it was just jumped on. Would not be going back.

What’s not to like? I would not go out of my way to say that Five Guys has the hands down, best burger ever. However, it is a great hamburger and they are very consistent. Never had a bad burger from any Five Guys location. Throw in a heaping mound of Cajun fries and that’s all you need. Satisfied customer.

I really like their fries, I was skeptical at first, but once I tasted them they were great. I feel that their fries are better than McDonald’s, which I like their fries as well.

Five Guys is the Whole Food of burger joints from a price perspective but I love it nonetheless. There’s is something to be said about made to order fries, freshly made burgers, a freestyle Coca Cola machine and free peanuts. More often than not, I order a bunless burger. I do not have any allergy but I have tried it and like it. If you have an allergy, the preparer will change his or her gloves. If you do not have an allergy, they will give you a little side eye look but do not let it deter you. You will become immune to it over time. I will keep skipping the daily Starbucks lattes so I can have the pricey burger but I would not have it any other way.

It is about time I rate Five Guys because I have eaten at several locations for many years. Been to the OP location the most. For the most part this place is solid and the fries are hand cut and outstanding. I agree with everyone in saying its a bit expensive. For two people expect to pay $ 20-$ 25 total. I’m a connoisseur of burgers and I rate them a 7.(my rating system is 1 through 10. 10 being the best)

I walked into this place and was creeped out by all the reviews on the wall. Each one claiming that this place had«The Best Burgers in Chicago!» I’ve never seen a business pat itself on the back in such a fashion… I honestly almost turned around when I saw that. This type of advertisement is unique to hipster businesses and if you notice you don’t see any ACTUAL awards, only reviews written by other hipsters and occasionally a business might have an award from some irrelevant paper or website that they only won because of the hipster fanatics. One thing you notice at this place is the ridiculous prices. Five Guys is pretty much a wanna-be burger diner/fast food joint, but their burgers are $ 7 each and they don’t come with a fries and drink. So you’re looking at over $ 10 for an entire meal. After I ordering my meal(had to yell because of loud music) I decided to fill up on the free peanuts while I waited. I walk over to the boxes… there’s nothing to put the peanuts in. I had to grab a thin napkin and scoop a handful with my bare hands. Who knows how many nasty people did this before me? The peanuts were stale as well which didn’t help. I had to clean off my own table to sit down since things were pretty dirty(business had just died down from the line being out the door.) I thought I’d be in and out in-time to catch the next train, but it took 20 minutes for my burger and fries to be ready(the place wasn’t even that busy.) Then, when I finally bite into«the best burger in Chicago» it wasn’t even close. It was an overcooked mess that had me wishing I’d have taken the train and went to Mcdonald’s or Church’s chicken. The burnt bits took over most of the flavor and for the price I was extremely disappointed in the rather small size of the burger. Fries were barely salted and were overcooked as well, a couple fries were a nice crispy black. Who would’ve thunk a hipster joint would be overrated? Never been back since.

I’ve never understood all the praise heaped on Five Guys, but I gave this one a try to make sure I hadn’t somehow been going into all the worst Five Guys franchises in the world. This place did nothing to dissuade me from my opinion. Bland burgers that cost more than they’re worth, plain and simple. Not much else to say.

It’s a bit overhyped, but I like their basic and fresh take on the burger. However, this location is kinda lackluster, considering its proximity to Katy’s and a tapas place nearby. To be on Lake Street, you gotta have a bit more diversity. I still enjoyed my food experience for what it was. Come for a classic burger with all the works and peanuts, of course! If you’re allergic, avoid at all costs. Otherwise, delicious burger and skinny fries. Yum yum.

Fast, yummy and a bright environment. «Linnette» was quick to point out that I do not need to ask for cheese when ordering a cheeseburger… Duh! Burgers are good and satisfying! You can get them made anyway you want too! Free peanuts too! Win!

Went here for lunch recently, and was impressed, mostly. My BF got the double burger w/everything and I got the«little» burger. We shared a regular fry and we shared a bottle of water. All good/tasty/delicious. Issue I have? It cost $ 20! Again, 2 burgers, a shared regular fry and a shared bottle of water. $ 20. Wow. I dine out a lot. I get paying for quality and will gladly do that, but this seemed really steep to me. Will go back, but not often.

Obama has some basic taste buds because I don’t think that the Five Guys Burger and Fries is anything special. It’s good and I like it, but I’ve certainly had better burgers from other places. Objectively, this is a run down of various aspects of the Five Guys experience: Customer Service — sometimes friendly, sometimes distracted. Wait — they make all of the food fresh, so there’s at least a five minute wait. Peanuts — there are large boxes of peanuts in the middle and people are free to take as many of them as they like. Paper & Crayons — there is a small station by the door where folks can create a coloring masterpiece while waiting or eating. That masterpiece can then be pinned to the board. Burgers — it’s important to get them loaded with everything that Five Guys considers to be standard. They make a decent burger. Hotdogs — I got the one with bacon and cheese. It is served almost like a sandwich, tastes good, and gave me heartburn. Fries — they are thick cut and deep fried. They are kind of mushy and are slightly salted. Cleanliness — the tables are not always wiped down. The thing for me is that I like Five Guys, but I don’t like them well enough to go there on my own(outside of the request of a friend). I don’t crave them or dream about them at night. If I had a hankering for a burger, I would sooner try a new place than go to Five Guys. P. S. I wish they had milk shakes.

My daughter from Oklahoma City called me to tell me about this fabulous burger place she’d found down there and she checked on Unilocal and saw they have some restaurants here in Chicago and said I had to try them. Based on her recommendation when I happened to be walking in this neighborhood and I noticed this restaurant I had to try it. The biggest thing I rate restaurants on is the flavor of food so I’ll address that issue first. I almost asked what the difference was between a cheeseburger and a small one, but was lazy and just ordered the regular cheeseburger. That was a mistake since it turns out the regular one has 2 patties of meat that were pretty good sized. For me it was just too much meat. Unfortunately too much meat translates into a VERY greasey burger. I don’t mind some grease, but when the grease is all over the top and bottom of the bun it’s too much for my tastes. Overall it was a good burger, but nothing to write home about. The one flavor area where they really stood out was their french fries. What made it so good was they salted the fries, but did not oversalt them like most places do. They were very good. One area where this place shined brightly was the service. The employees not only treated me in a very friendly manner, but also seemed to be enjoying working there. Seeming to enjoy themselves is important to me because if employees hate their jobs it usually directly impacts the level of friendly service a customer receives. The restaurant itself was very clean and the restroom facilities were very clean also. Now I should say that it was real early in their business day when I arrived so wasn’t like they’d had lots of customers yet. However, based on what I saw I was very impressed since I appreciate a clean establishment. As far as bang for your buck goes I have to say it was overpriced for what I received. $ 11 for a burger and small fries was just too much in my opinion. I do realize I am naturally a cheapskate so maybe the prices aren’t that unreasonable by other peoples standards/\. My final thoughts on Five Guys is that I may stop by for a small burger and fries in the future, but it won’t be anyplace I feel compelled to return to. The friendly service and clean establishment were appreciated, it just can’t overcome the high price and greasey burgers. I’m not sorry I tried it, I just don’t see myself becoming a regular customer.
