Got to the restaurant and ordered a fried chicken sandwich and Diet Pepsi. This was a few minutes before the lunch crowd arrived. First, the ice machine was not working. I reported it to the busy cashier, who replied that they would fix it. Never happened. Then, I waited over 25 minutes and my lunch never arrived. Meanwhile people who had arrived and were seated way after me were enjoying their sandwiches. I asked for a refund since my lunch break was just 1 hour. At first, the cashier said their receipts machine was not working“and tried to give me a voucher for a free meal at a later date. Since I’m rarely in downtown Oakland during business hours, I insisted on my cash refund. Even though the food looks good… I won’t be going back any time soon.

This was an awesome local burger joint, and they are at the heart of downtown Oakland. The best way accessing this place is by parking near the cul-de-sac, or walking through the nearby plaza. They can fit a decent size crowd here, and event crowd still managed to overflow this place though. First time I was here was for an event gathering outside, and they opened breakfast for us. The breakfast burrito I got was decent with the standard ingredients like eggs, hash brown, sausage, and other veggies. We actually ended up eating there at dinnertime as well after the event was over. I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich with an egg. The fried chicken was surprisingly good, not too greasy with right amount of moist inside. Fries were very nice too. Crossburgers was definitely a solid burger joint. They definitely fit my category of ideal comfort food for lunch or dinner. The staffs here were very cool and friendly as well.

As a resident of Berkeley, I basically live in a burger desert. McDonald’s is seriously one of the better burger places in my neighborhood, which is really sad. When I saw pictures from Crossburgers in Oakland, I knew I had to make a trip to check it out. I arrived around 11:10, so the place was relatively uncrowded. The customers who were there seemed like regulars which seemed like a good sign to me. I ordered the Crossburger with dirty fries. My meal cost roughly $ 13, which is at the upper limit for what a fast casual lunch place could reasonably charge(in my opinion). The burger was amazingly juicy and well-seasoned. Biting into the burger actually reminded me of biting into a high quality all-beef hotdog in terms of the way the juices and flavor seemed to spill out. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and flavorful. The sauce was rich and creamy. Everything about the burger was superb, save for one thing: the buns. All they need to do is toast the buns just for a little bit, and the burger would be perfect. Instead, the burger is held back by a boring, white-bread bun that becomes a soggy rag as you proceed to eat the burger. Crossburgers needs to fix this. The dirty fries were really tasty. The fries were thick and perfectly crisp. The Cajun seasoning makes them taste like the fries at Five Guys, and yet the fries at Crossburgers are far less greasy. In spite of the bun situation, I really enjoyed my meal and Crossburgers and would definitely come back. The fried chicken sandwich looks amazing, so I will probably get that next time.

EATHERE. Stopped by on a whim between meetings while I was in town for business. Peeked my head in to see if they offered turkey burgers and was so happy when I saw ‘turkey’ on the menu. As I ordered, I said, «no bun, I’m gluten-free». The person taking my order said, «we have gluten free buns». EVENBETTER. I went all in on the calories; burger, bun, added avocado, ordered the sweet potato fries and topped it off with a San Pellegrino Blood Orange soda. This burger is love at first bite. Juicy, seasoned so amazingly well. I made an audible(dare I write ‘moaning’) noise in the booth, sitting by myself while I ate, it’s that good. Whatever magical sauce they pair with the sweet potato fries should be bottled and sold. Good music played in the background. Then the chef, who has a bigger-than-life, gregarious nature came by to ask me how my meal was. I nearly told him it was the best thing I’ve ever had in my mouth. He was so pleased. He walked around and chatted-up everyone while I was there and greeted a ton of customers by name as they came in. He and his burgers must be an institution in Oakland. I will absolutely be back.

Good place for lunch if you work in the area. The fried chicken sandwich is good but can vary in size. The crossburger is cooked really well and a good option but it had a bit too much salt for my taste. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. Not a huge beer selection but the options they do have are good quality craft beers. The chef is really friendly and will check on you to make sure everything is okay. Other staff can be a bit slow but they’re still really friendly.

The burger was flavorful. No argument there. And the dirty fries were delicious but this juicy, saucy burger was set on a raw bun. Every bite the bun got soggier and soggier and every bite I wished more that they’d toasted the bun. So enjoy the dirty fries and a cider with your order but be sure to ask that they toast that bun!

A decent burger, nothing special. The dirty fries were not for me – too much spice and salt on them. They were pretty slow for lunch takeout.

I had no expectations coming to this restaurant with my co-workers. We settled on this place because it was the closest thing to us. Luckily we beat out the lunch rush and were able to secure a table because the line to this place snakes out the door. I tried their turkey burger and it was delicious. Probably one of the best turkey burgers I’ve had. Not dry at all but quite the opposite.

I had an early dinner here yesterday before a meeting at city hall at 6pm. I did not expect much, it is a simple burger and salad joint, simple spartan décor, probably attracting the lunch crowd from the city employees and nearby businesses. They have wine and beer on tap. I went for the IPA, and it was a good selection. You pay at the counter you get a number and you go sit at on of the booths. I ordered a turkey burger and it was sooooo good! Juicy, spicy just right, big and cooked to perfection. The fries were crisp, slightly salted and spicy, and just perfect. The owner was friendly and clearly proud of his shop. If in downtown Oakland and want a burger, go here

Kudos. I tried this place when they first opened two years ago and was unimpressed with the meal I chose which was a fish sandwhich that was more like a fish nugget on a roll at the time, and had to wait an extra 20 minutes for my order after they said it was ready. I received a free happy hour drink and appetizer voucher the first time, but Ive yet to use it. I came a few days ago and there was just too many people for me. Today was a pretty good day and earned them 4 stars. The service was excellent and when I ordered the cheeseburger and fries(the burger does not come with fries) that came medium rare, and I asked for another that was well done they did just that with no hassle at all. The burger was a decent burger, and nothing to write home about but the service and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer made my day. My co worker had the fries chicken sandwich and another one had the mushroom burger that they said was really good. The outside and interior of this place is pretty cool and urban in design and art. Cheers to Crossburgers for making this an enjoyable experience.

I work three doors down, so I’ve been here a number of times. Other reviewers have covered their spotty service and occasional flavor, quality, and inventory missteps. These are the reasons Crossburgers is not in my standard lunch rotation. The restaurant is clearly run inefficiently. They take a really long time to make simple things and orders placed at the same time can come out at vastly different times, which makes it hard to come here for lunch with co-workers. Instead, we go to Max’s, or Café Talavera, or Juice Joint. Crossburgers’ food, for the price, is not always well-made and not even always well-thought-out. Cross sauce doesn’t really taste good. Their fried chicken sandwich is missing something in the flavor department(Rotisserie Deli across the plaza does a better job). I have gotten sweet potato fries there that were absolutely drenched in grease. Three stars felt generous after what I wrote, but I give them the benefit of the doubt for ambition, and they do get some things right. The naked fries have been consistently good. I will say I absolutely love their chili cheese dog. It’s pretty much perfect, even in the fact that you have to use a fork and knife to eat it. The black-eyed peas-based chili is genius.

With the limited lunch options in Downtown Oakland, I reeeallly want to like Crossburgers, but they just won’t let me. I’ve gone here because I love me a good chili cheese dog, but they’ve run out of the stuff that I like to eat more than a few times, which bums me out. I no longer suggest Crossburgers to folks asking for lunch recommendations, and today’s latest attempt at a lunch date with my husband solidified that. Came in before 12:30 — already no chili. «Okay,» I think…“we’ve got less than an hour, so just order some dirty fries and be content.” Except it took 25 minutes just to get my husband’s food, and after waiting 10 additional minutes for my fries, we just asked for our money back. I was watching another girl in the restaurant eating a bag lunch thinking she was hella rude at the time, but now I see that she had the right idea. At least she left Crossburgers with something to eat…

Amazing, divine, hospitably and just an all around a great burger joint. I was with my co-workers for a birthday lunch today and between the 6 of us we ordered the fried Chicken burger, cross burger and cat fish po’boy. I personally had the Po’boy which was lightly seasoned and had a light and crisp texture without being greasy. The fish to bread ratio was perfect and the slaw on top was refreshing. Based on how fast everyone else ate their food, I assume everyone was as equally happy with their food as I was. However, based on their comments; The sauce that is used on the burgers has a slight spice to it but wasn’t over powering and complimented the beef well. To put it over the top, after everyone sang an embarrassing rendition of happy birthday, the chef/owner came out with an ice cream cookie sandwich. An item that isn’t on the menu but should be! You will have multiple repeat customers for sure!

Forget the uppity«California style» burger places. This is everything a hamburger should be: big, messy and flavorful. The meat was cooked just like I like it: medium rare; just a little pink(that’s what she said!) do yourself a favor and get an order of the dirty fries. Cumin, paprika and a hefty dose of spiciness. Didn’t even need sauce to go with them. Nice girl working the front and fast service. Recommended for anyone

I was at Crossburgers as a part of a group event that started at 10am. By 9:30 there were already 20 – 30 people there, and the group had started trickling into the establishment on a cold and rainy Sunday morning. The doors were open and they were serving coffee, but not yet serving food as they were still doing their prep work. This is understandable, in a way, except that anyone who has experience doing business knows that people don’t show up «right on time,» they show up early. So a store that wants to stay in business and serve people should be prepared to do so when the doors open. That, plus, the store only had two people staffed for an all-day event that would see at least 1,000 people come through their establishment led to my original review of the restaurant, which said what I’m saying here much more briefly. Unilocal, however, took my original review down after management insulted me and complained to Unilocal. Knowing that another 30 – 50 people were en-route and would also want food, I offered to start taking the food orders from the people as they arrived, inserting myself into the system as a server. This way, they would know what food to make, and could focus on ringing it up and making it. They insisted on not using my system, and said that we would all just have to form a line when they started serving food, order our food at the cash register(in front of which there was not enough room for a line of the size required to be formed), and then wait to have it made by the cook. Originally, they insisted that there was no way that they could do this. Then they said that they could, but only if I paid for all of the food as well as took the order. Throughout this whole process they were rude and disrespectful. We walked by other perfectly valid breakfast options in order to go to their store, because that’s where the event was at 10am. Eventually I’d had enough. I wasn’t going to wrestle with the on-coming hoards in some mass anarchy food ordering process. So, I gave up, and left.

Great casual burger spot with reasonable prices & consistently solid burgers to keep you coming back for more. :Atmosphere: Lots of seating(booths, tables, long counters) both indoors and out. It’s especially nice sitting outside, facing the plaza on sunny days… very casual vibe. :Food/Drink: I’m always weary of places that have«burger» in the name, but try to over-stuff their menu with non-burger options, to attract more customers… Crossburgers seems to strike a good balance here, and everything I’ve had so far(Crossburger, buttermilk fried chicken sandwich) have been consistently good enough to keep me coming back. You’ll find lots of burger variety here(beef, fried chicken, turkey, tuna) along with healthy salad options. They have a decent variety of beers available as well from 21st Amendment, Faction, Sierra, Anchor Steam, Federation, etc… some fun items like a sea salt and caramel ice cream sandwich… and even a secret menu item that you’ll have to ask about. Bottom line — Casual vibe, friendly service, relatively quick wait time, good variety, and ample outdoor seating for nice days. A very worthwhile lunch destination if you work near Oakland City Center.

This place is near my school and opened earlier this year so I decided to give it a try. My best friend and I decided to order a large Rotunda salad to-go and left mildly satisfied. The service was friendly and the salad came super fast, but we were disappointed by both the quantity and quality of our order — especially considering the price. The salad lacked crunchiness and I swear I ate arugula when I was supposed to have eaten kale. Whatever, I guess. There was a lot of dressing and not enough cheese. Definitely not worth $ 10.40.

Big fan of this place. I’ve gone here for lunch a couple times, having gotten the turkey burger and the buttermilk fried chicken breast burger. Both times, I was stoked. You have the option of adding cheese to your burger for $ 1. They have blue cheese. Enough said. Great burgers. You end up waiting a bit for you food, but it’s worth it.

My experience at crossburgers was satiffying. The burger was pleasant, fries were good, and service was well. We ordered Two cheeseburgers and a hamburger, two waters and a lemonade. He didn’t tell us the lemonade was actually lemon flavored sanpellegrino. I asked if I could have something else, but the purchase was already made and could not be undone. The wait for the burgers was long, but I’ve been through worse. A lot worse. But the wait was worth it because the burgers were great, and so were the fries, but a bit salty. The location is Dowtown Oakland, directly across City hall, it’s not on a street. So lunch here was pleasant. Fries don’t come with burgers, you must ask for them. Regular lemonade is not available, even though there is a soda fountain. I guess there’s a reason for that name. I’ll be back. The food was good.

I am currently typing this by proxy because if I get close enough to the keyboard to do it myself, I will melt my monitor. Why, you ask? I just enjoyed myself a side of Crossburgers garlic fries. Talk about kickin’. On the plus side, Downtown Oakland is now temporarily free of any of the vampirically-inclined. Wow. I seriously could melt steel right now. Thankfully, I was smart enough to share with my co-workers, and so am avoiding the otherwise inevitable side-eye that my fume-laden exhalation would deserve. Also, I shared those tragically delicious french fries because there is no humanly way possible to eat that entire portion, plus my burger(and, okay, yes, the ginormous chocolate chip cookie that mugged me at the cashier desk…) and not cause bodily harm to myself and mental trauma to everyone else around me. As it is, I think my belt is going to take out a restraining order against me. In all seriousness, those crispy, greasy, garlicky potato bits were really, really tasty. The massive burger was good too, albeit a bit dry and overdone for my preference. If you enjoy a little oomph in your lunch, try a Crossburger with mushrooms, bacon, and pepperjack. The bacon alone is a thing of beauty, and slap some crosssauce on it to create a real masterpiece. Service was super fast, and incredibly friendly, too. Check out for my carry out was a breeze… And then, I saw a menu item for curry chicken salad. I think I am going to be in some real trouble here, folks. Time to up my exercise routine to make room for all this wonderful, terrible(for you) food.

Alright, so I’m torn. The fried chicken sandwich that I had was DELICIOUS, but I got mad food poisoning the rest of the afternoon after I ate here. Perhaps the chicken was nice and moist because it wasn’t fully cooked? Maybe the kale coleslaw in the sandwich was left out too long? Who knows… Fries were good, and the burgers that my co-workers got also looked good. I’m open to coming back here again, and although that fried chicken sandwich was pretty awesome, I’ll probably go with the burger next time. If I come back again and don’t have a regretful afternoon afterwards, I’ll update my review with more stars.

A great burger place just outside the city offices. I always go for either the Crossburger or the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. Both are good choices. The chicken sandwich is pretty similar to what you get at Bakesale Betty. Make sure to get the dirty fries with your meal. They’re just a few cents more than regular fries and sprinkled with some spicy seasoning for an extra kick. Despite ordering at the counter, they bring your food to you without giving you a number. They call out your name and then find you, so make sure you pay attention. Not the most efficient system, but it works. Even though the line will go out the door during lunchtime, there is plenty of seating inside and I’ve never had a problem finding a place to sit. Even if it fills up, there are some tables outside the place as well as all of the plaza.

Crossburgers is an adorable, hip little burger joint that serves quality food! I am always a little skeptical when it comes to burgers, but Crossburgers did not disappoint. I ordered a turkey patty on a Caesar salad and loaded up on the toppings with: extra avocadoes, bacon and mushroom. The Caesar salad was delicious and fresh, and the TURKEYPATTYWASTHEBESTTHING I’VEEVERHAD. It was delicious and juicy and I am officially a turkey convert for life, thanks Crossburgers. Their dirty fries were also AMAZINGLY delicious. This is definitely going to be one of my favorite spots.

I’m four bites into my fried chicken sandwich and I had to stop to open Unilocal.Damn this thing is tasty! The chicken is some of the best fried chicken I’ve had in a long time. The slaw and dressing that it’s topped with is delicious and pairs really nicely. The only thing that could be improved is the bun(it’s a little dry). This sandwich is the only thing I’ve had from here but the menu looks promising.

I attended Crossburger’s first anniversary night a few weeks ago and had a great time. The place was PACKED all night long, and even though the restaurant was selling out of items left and right, the staff kept their cool and did their best to deal with the crowds and get everyone’s food out in a timely manner. Since they were out of kale salad, I opted for a veggie burger with a side of sweet potato fries and wasn’t disappointed. Veggie burger was pretty standard, but hit the spot. Fries were really yummy and tossed in a brown sugar mixture. Beer and wine was pretty reasonable too. I don’t think I spent more than $ 25 on dinner and 3 drinks. Cool spot to check out in downtown Oakland!

Been wanting to come here for a while; and I’d previously come in to check the vege burger was vegan(it is). I’ve had some really bad experiences with vegan burgers, with them being dry and tasteless — especially the bun(and sometimes turning out not to be vegan), so I didn’t have my hopes too high. The woman at the counter was a little tricky to understand, although she was very clear on the concept of vegan, and apologize for asking me if I wanted cheese(which is fine with me — asking, that is). I opted to not get the cross sauce, since it wasn’t clear if that was vegan, and I’m just dandy with ketchup. The burger proved to the pretty good, and the onions and pickles(both of which I usually don’t really like) proved to be the making of the burger, and just right. The cook too(owner?), looked to be very friendly, and was going out of his way to fix someone’s bad order. I only giving it 4 stars, since at $ 8(I didn’t get fries), it wasn’t as filling as I’d hoped, and utlimately it’s still a greasy burger, even if it’s pretty good. Looks like they have a great selection of beer too, although I didn’t need any for a Monday lunchtime pick-me-up.

DEARHIPSTERS… I found your burger joint. The hipster game is real strong here, from what the staff is wearing, chalk board menus, to the PBR available right next to the registers. Cool little spot, small menu from burgers, salads, to breakfast sandwiches. I opted for the breakfast sandwich and added bacon and a side of dirty fries. SOLID selection, but the one thing that irked me was that they charge $ 3 or whatever to add a couple of slices of bacon to the breakfast sandwich. I believe it cost more to do this than ordering the side of fries! I understand bacon/meat is a little more expensive but really? More than a side of fries? That’s like a bacon crime! On a side note, the buns they use are soft-sweet awesomeness. Anyways, I’ll be back here to try their fried chicken sandwich soon.

I’ve been here a few times now, for both lunch and breakfast, and haven’t left disappointed. Coworkers first recommended this place to me, when introducing me to the area. Their burgers might not be mind-blowing amazing, but they’re nevertheless juicy, solid options for lunch in the downtown area — more than just an average burger joint. It’ll get messy, so the burgers come in a nice tray to hold all that meaty juice! Lots of options to choose from. Their breakfast is also so filling. I get either their breakfast sandwich($ 1 extra to add avocado or ham) or breakfast burrito, so that I can bring it into the office and it lasts me through lunch and into early afternoon. The burrito is especially filling, quite heavy actually, so just have your stomach prepared for it… The sandwich is lighter and I like to add fresh avocados to it, liven it up! Service here is friendly. The owner, Eddie, is really excited about the Oakland community. Other staff members have also been smiley and friendly to start the morning with, which is just refreshing.
