We ordered one veg fried rice and it was amazing after we added alot of soy sauce and extra chilli sauce which costed me 50c it’s not a dine in restaurant so u can’t really enjoy Goin here with family. Took me 10 mins to explain the lady what I wanted. The down side they only accept cash. So we had to go next door and bring some cash and that pissed my bf off. Lol so he left the table messy.

Let me first start by saying I only negated one star because of the location… Although this place has been here for MANY years and nothing has happened– the location makes me feel eerie. I remember coming here with my grandmother 20 years ago!!! She loved the Chinese food here and I can see why things haven’t changed. The food is fresh seasoned to perfection and just the right amounts I also like how u can do a combo and substitute pork fried rice over for shrimp or chicken. –bring cash –call in order ahead of time

I have no clue how this place has four and a half stars. I thought it would be worth going into the ghetto for this apparently«best Chinese food» ever. Theres bullet holes in the window and I was begged for change while waiting for my food. It was very difficult to order, the menu was not clear and was hard to decipher. I ordered a combination plate of sweet and sour pork and mongolian beef over rice. The waiting time was slightly above average but we thought it was okay because we thought we were going to have the«best Chinese food» ever. When we got the food it smelled like tacos. That was the first warning sign. When I opened my plate I had ordered beef chowmein but was given chicken chowmein. The combination consisted of two entrees so instead I asked for double sweet and sour pork. To my dismay I only got a single entrée which was already small. The mongolian beef did not appeal to any of my senses. It did not look good, taste good. The drive to the ghetto just to get overpriced, mediocre food was not worth it.

Great Chinese food. I always get the shrimp chowmein and house fried rice. The food is a little greasy but the kind you can live with because you’re eating bomb Chinese food. The people who run this place are really sweet. CASHONLY

Love this place, it is a family favorite. Number 5 for me with a couple of chicken egg rolls. You can’t find eggrolls with chicken in them anymore, just veggies. Love the grease that goes with them, little too much for my sister, but the kids and I love them. Dried fried ribs are good to, just rather have the sweet and sour pork with my meals. ERK can get a little expensive for the porportions, but ingredients are fresh. It is nice to be able to call in phone orders now, but don’t wait to late, you will not get an answer. Phone orders makes it easier to tolerate the surroundings which is kind a built-in security blanket to ERK, just feels like the OK Coral is going to breakout at any given time

I tried this place for the first time today because I was hungry and needed a quick lunch. What a find! Beef Chow Mein was delicious. This is one of the best kept secrets in Oakland. I am most definitely coming back.

Yo… Let me just say that if you want some authentic Chinese Food. You HAVE to come check this place out. The location can TOTALLY have you thinking otherwise, but… It was amazing. I got the typical beef broccoli, chicken chow mein, 4 prawns and an egg roll and savored every bite! WILL come back.

My favorite menus are Fried Prawns & Dried Fried Ribs. I don’t think that I could find at any other places. I would like to say that this is the best Chinese restaurant in town.

Good chinese food, If you know what you want, it is best to call in your order ahead, thats only if you dont want to wait up to 30 minutes for your food especially when the place is crowded.

I love ERK, I’ve been eating it since I was a child, and my mother, who is 51, has been eating at ERK since she was 18! However, as I become more health conscious, I have to wonder about where they get their meat from and how the kitchen/cook/prep areas look in the back. A lot of «black» people don’t inquire about things like this because they’re simply just focused on the taste, but not me. I am becoming more and more adamant aboout not eating at restaurants where I cannot see my food being cooked! So I gave them 3 stars on taste, instead of 5… Oh and the location SUCKS! Oh how I wish they were in another part of Oakland!!!

Had the taste for some«Egg Roll Kitchen» today, I didn’t want to wait in a long line so I took a chance and call to ask if they would take a phone order. Yes, Amen they did! I was able to place my order and run there on my break and get my order. It took only 15 mins out of my time to get. I love«Egg Roll Kitchen». Great shrimp chow mein.

It’s official. This is MYFAVORITECHINESEFOODSPOT. I went back again for one of my lunch breaks and have enjoyed the food as much as I did before, maybe even more. The food was made fresh with high quality ingredients, exactly how I like it.(I’m very picky and LOVE food, so I KNOW what quality is and isn’t) The lady at the counter told me they’ve been opened for over 30+ years and I can understand why, THEFOODISDELICIOUS! I brought some back to work, but then everyone ate all the rest of my food!!! RATING: 6STARS!(: However, as I go on Unilocal to update my review, it’s sad to see people complain about the place. I’ve never once experienced sour food or gotten sick from it, and I frequent this place a lot & I mean A LOT. It always amazes me how such good Chinese food can be found in an area like this. But, I really enjoyed reading about the their reviews. It’s funny to know people dig through other’s garbage and know how rotting cats smell like. Haha.

Hands down, this place has the best fried rice and chow mein that I’ve had on the west coast. Seriously, the food here is EXCELLENT. Over the years, I’ve come to expect that the Chinese food here in the bay area is just OK, which is weird, considering the diversity and the large Chinese population. The best Chinese food I’ve had(prior to eating here) was in St. Louis. Go figure. Full disclosure, this place is in the ‘hood. It’s a hole in the wall. The service is not that great. I’ve even witnessed several altercations between staff and customers before. But like the Soup Nazi, its worth it to endure whatever you have to to get your hands on some of that yummy fried rice and chow mein!

Classic hole in the wall joint in the hood that serves good Chinese food. Beware that they close early. Usually by 6 or 7 pm.
