They have pretty good service and place is incredibly clean. I ordered a burger and fries just to give em a shot bad off a recommendation. It took about 10 minutes and $ 7. It’s a pretty damn good burger for a BBQ place. Cooked and season well. I forgot to tell em no mayonnaise, o well. This is place is 3 blocks from the crib and ill definitely be gong back.

I was just looking around the area on Google Street view and saw this place and liked the name. Low ratings, but seems to be due to a past Deals mishap which I think you have to forgive after a while as an honest mistake in designing the offer and the miscalculating the ability to handle demand. Had the small pork rib platter with potato salad. Very nice meat. Spices are not overwhelming and the sauce is good, but not too bold in the medium variety. Came off the bone easily. I appreciated that as a new customer the proprietor offered me a free mac and cheese and this was great because it was excellent. Some of the best I’ve had in years(I hardly ever eat it) and I had just finished mountain biking so was extra hungry. Good amount over all of portion. Potato salad was a nice concoction, small amount given, but enough to go with the meal. Bread, as I feel in all rib places, is a waste of calories and I didn’t eat it. Just plain cheap wheat bread, but I won’t knock them as this is standard for these places. I wish the trend moved more to corn bread or buttermilk biscuit, even if it was Pillsbury. $ 11 cost was fair, tax included. Had I been charged for Mac and Cheese, $ 14 maybe would have approached steep. If they let you sub the mac n cheese for the po and lame bread, that would be a nice option, which I’d ask for next time. Area not too sketchy. Small amount of seating inside that was nice if you can’t wait to dig in. Love that they have Shasta soda available, too. Note: Cash only, which I never mind since I figure they pass on the savings to the customer.

Derrick was extremely friendly, and the PORKBBQ was DELICIOUS! Homemade BBQ sauce(made in house), and they do an excellent job smoking it! 30 minutes after I ordered… I discovered they have PEACHCOBBLER! GETTHEFORKOUTTAHERE!!! PEACHCOBBLERISMYFAVORITE!!!

This place was delicious! Some friends of mine and I were coming back from a hike and wanted something hearty and warm and this place was the closest spot we could find. I got a three item combo with chicken, brisket and pulled pork. The meat was tender and well cooked, the sauce was spicy but not too spicy and the sides were great! The gentleman working there was very friendly and even brought us some extra sides. I have been to Kansas City and parts of Texas where they have great barbecue and I have to say that this place is up to par and maybe better than any and all barbecue I’ve had in the Bay Area. The prices are also affordable.

I am a TOTAL foodie and love all kinds of food, but barbecue is very near and dear to my heart. After being disappointed by the food quality of the new Everett and Jones in the Laurel district and the prices of the one in Jack London I thought all hope for good barbecue in Oakland was lost… that is until I tried this place. Yes it’s in the hood and you may get harassed by a couple of drunk pan handlers, but the food is worth the adventure. Everything was on point from the links, ribs and brisket to the baked beans(which are made home style with ground beef baked in), and the potato salad(which has a hint of celery, yum) and the cheesy mac n cheese. Hope everyone helps to make this place a success and support them!

Okay so first and foremost Im a frequent visitor of this great establishment. I have tried practically each and everything on the menu. If you love BBQ all season like i do, then you’ve probably tried every single place known to man in Oakland. I personally only stick to the basics. Links, Ribs. There all great and the sauce is exquisite! Especially in HOT ! Give it a try what’s the worst that can happen?! You’ll actually enjoy it, crave it, and return?!

First time there and since they are in neighborrod of the jungle where I live, i never read reviews before. Well after tasting I read, reviews are bad and really they should not be. I would say that the price is a bit high for the place and the quality of meat they serve, I paid 30 bucks for to go: 6 Smoked Ribs and a pulled pork bbq with BBQ sauce and a cold mashed potatoes. I have only waited for 15 minutes, i ate everything with my partner in 15 min as well. Ok, low down your price and your should be good, sweet lady, nice music, nice simple décor… but you’d certainly hope to pay less, way less for what they are serving you. iam still having them with 4 stars only because they are in my area, and I want them to stay. Keep challenging yourself and keep opening quick to go into our area. You rock and with some advice like NOT putting paper to separate your food, you guys should get more customers. Low down the price if you want me back more often as i ant afford that everyday although Id love trying you every other week. But if you want more in the area, LOWDOWN

To everyone who was scammed by the LivingSocial deal like I was… you can call LivingSocial and they will give you a refund for the $ 8 you paid for the $ 20 deal. I called one day before the deal expiration, the worker was extremely rude and abrupt and actually dared to challenge me as to why I waited till the last minute to use my coupon. Then he said that I should either call back later that day or next week, and then hung up on me! I will NEVER do business with this place again, and I sincerely hope that they will receive their just desserts and go out of business.

I wish I could give this business –5 stars. I too purchased a Living Social Coupon and attempted to order a meal 3 times. Each time, they were sold out. Last weekend we were told that our coupon would be accepted through this weekend(since the expiration date was last Wednesday). I just called to order a meal and the person informed me that if my name was not on a list, they would not accept the coupon. I was never asked for my name last weekend. Therefore, they refused to honor the coupon. Poor management. As a result of this experience, I will NEVER attempt to purchase a meal from this business especially when I could go to Great American BBQ in Alameda where they have excellent food and great customer service.

Get Tha Fuck Outta Here would be more appropriate. A few months back, I went on a LivingSocial spree and as soon as I saw BBQ, I was down. I should of read the fine print. And the reviews. As with the consensus, GTFOH would not accept my voucher. I called at 4pm to use my voucher and the scholar who answered informed me they stopped accepting them at 3pm. It was obvious he made that up on the spot as he mumbled his words and lies. He went on to say that over 300 people had called in orders and they were done with LivingSocial. I politely asked«what can I do?» And he replied, «Wha’cha trying to do?» In all honesty, I’m glad I didn’t drive out of my way to the hood to try some mediocre BBQ. I can always go to Everett & Jones.

DONOT buy any type of online deal/voucher here people!!! This place is beyond like any business I’ve ever come across. Just weird. Months ago I bought a living social deal here, within 2 weeks I was placing at 11am an was told it would be ready after 3:30pm. Haha really CANCEL that order please! So I tried using my voucher before it expired an was asked right away on the phone if it was living social deal! I said yes he everyone waited till last minute to use the deal, that he would call me back to place my order… Ha, never heard from him again! I feel this place is sketchy and ripped off dozens of voucher holders. Good luck trying to get food outta this place.

I used a Living Social voucher and I have to admit, I was pretty nervous after reading all of the negative reviews. I called in to place my order for pickup the next day. They said they didn’t have any openings for a few days, so I took it(knowing this may be my only chance). I ordered pork ribs and beef brisket. The sauce was good. Ribs were average. My dad was a big fan of the brisket. I felt like it had just the right amount of fat. This place may be good for catering, but I wouldn’t come here for a regular meal. You have to be flexible with your pickup time, which makes no sense as a customer. However, I will say that the food was ready within 5 minutes of my pickup time and people working there that day were pleasant and friendly.

They barely got any stars from me but the meat was so tender and good I had to give them something. The young lady at the counter was nice but we were not greeted at the door at all. The just looked at us like aliens. My mother warned me it was would be a super ultra long wait. I’m talkin almost an hour later to eat. We call in our order and waited about 20 minutes to come down the street. Out side parking we get a call from the place saying they dont have any chicken and that I would have to pick another meat. Mu cousin hung and said we will be in. At this point i’m thinking my food was packeged and ready. We get inside and STILLNOFOOD! We had to wait an additional 20 minutes for our plates. Nobody has any idea why. The food is not worth the wait. I say pass on it. You can tell they buy food according to what sells so they dont waste inventory. But that’s just silly business to me.

I want to echo JB’s review below. I also found out about this through Living Social, went to Unilocal a few weeks later to check out the place, and expected the worst customer service and to wait a bit. Bah hum-bug! Nothing could have been further from the truth. A SUPER nice lady(I think her name was Dorian?) smiled when I came in, promptly greeted me, and had my order ready for me. I had the brisket and the ribs. On the car ride home, I immediately started drooling because of the smoky flavor that was emanating from the take out boxes. And when I came home, the feasting began! The brisket was absolutely phenomenal! The ribs were slightly dry IMO, but I am willing to overlook it and grant this place 5 stars because the brisket was literally out of this world and some of the best I’ve ever had(like it was MEMORABLY good). Plus, I love supporting mom and pops and this place takes the cake… er, BBQ. Will be back. Thanks guys!

I also found out about this place because of Living Social, but then I found out about the difficulty using coupons from Unilocal. So I expected problems or attitude when I phoned in my order. It wasn’t too bad though – they don’t allow the coupon to be used for a slab of ribs, and they are limiting the number of coupons they take per day. It would be great(and only fair) if these conditions were listed up-front on the Living Social site. Oh well. I just want some damn good BBQ! I got the large pork ribs and a whole BBQ chicken. I’m not a BBQ expert, but those ribs were slammin’ – just the right amount of excellent sauce, and smoked up nice. They fell off the bone maybe a bit too easily, but the flavor was there so I’m not complaining. The whole chicken was great too, cut up in a interesting but enjoyable way, and the potato salad was on point. When I’m able to spend $ 1000+ on a big green egg I might be able to produce similar ribs at home. But until then, I’ll be saving up the $ 28 to spend on a rack sometime soon. The prices at GTFAOHB are a little high, but you get what you pay for.

This joint is in the serious hood and I was wanting it to be worth the drive. When I came here they didn’t have any pork product ready. I ordered a three-way combo and had chicken, beef brisket, and hotlinks. Beef brisket was very good(B moist and flavorful), chicken was OK(C+, dry with little flavor) and I’ve had better hotlinks(C-, too fine a ground and not much kick). The side of potato salad was awful(F) and I had to throw it away after spitting it out. It tasted an hour short of food poisoning! I really wanted to love this place after talking to the owner, who is a really nice guy. I will go back again and have the ribs. I look forward to giving a better rating next time, I’m an optimist.

My wife and I both bought the Living Social coupon and tonight we used hers. Mine, I’m going to throw it in the garbage. Here’s why: 1) Soooo hard to use the Living Social coupon. As soon as you say«Living Social» their attitude turns to crap. You need to call half a day in advance and cannot use it towards combos which was NOT mentioned in the ad.
2) The food was crap! The ribs and chicken were so dry and had no taste. The only thing semi good was the brisket. I told my wife the ribs at Lucky’s are more tasty and moist. 3) Portion size. I ordered all large sizes. There were literally 5, 5″(not baby back) ribs in the whole container. I guess with the small you get 3? Stupid me, I drove all the way from Lake Merritt to try this BBQ. I should have known it was a scam and stuck with Everett and Jones. Part of me wonders that maybe they do have good food but just hand out the crap to the people with the Living Social coupon.

I saw a friend put this place up on Facebook, so I gave it a try. I was really pleased!!! I bought dinners for six and not a complaint! The meat was tender and tasty! Greens on point! Sides quite tasty! I hope this place stays around for a while! What I loved most was the honesty. I called and was told I would get a call back with the time frame. So I arrived while they were bringing my meals to the front! Loved it! That’s customer service. Good food is worth the wait! Especially when I don’t have to stand there!!!

Smh. I get a coupon from living social. I called to place an order. I was told that i have to call 3HOURSINADVANCE. Not only that i couldn’t order a combo or ribs with the coupon. I showed the owner the coupon, he tried to convince that they sell so much food that’s why i had to call 3 hours i’n advance. I drive by there daily and there is absolutely no one i’n there, ever. I think what happened was business was slow. The sold all these coupons and now don’t want to honor them i’n the proper way. Many restaurants come and go on Mac Arthur. I think this will be another one that don’t last. I mentioned the comments that were made on Unilocal about the business. He said the customers were all ppl who bought coupons and couldn’t follow directions and call a head of time. The guy i spoke just refused to say he was wrong and false advertised. Needless to say i didn’t place an order. Going to get my money back. And i will never go there again.
