REVIEWER # 254 I don’t know how I stumbled upon this place but man I am SO happy I did! Wait…wait.wait.I remember now how I found this hidden gem… It was because it was a «Happy Hour sign that was by their door and that caught my eyes! Whoa, Peruvian Happy Hour! Count me in buddy! I walked in and felt right at home. I was greeted by a lovely gentleman named Jerman and he took care of me the whole time I was there. I told him it was my first time and that was all I needed to do. He introduced me to all the staff at the restaurant and showed me the back of the restaurant where parties go down at! OMG! If you haven’t been here before WHATAREYOUWAITINGFOR?! This place is legit. Okay, so their prices are pricey but happy hour is legit. There menu is amazing and their drinks are even better. I was going to get the margarita once I seen their menu but Jerman was like, ‘nah honey get something different, something that will have you feeling GUD’! That’s all I needed to hear. He went behind the counter and made me a delicious Pisco sour! OMG, that’s all I can say. I was feeling myself so much that I asked for a second one soon after but trust me 2 drinks will have you feeling yourself. Jerman offered food from the menu and I ordered: –The Fish Ceviche –Chicken Empanada Both were really good! It had me licking my plate and wanting more. The manager there is a woman and she is so sweet and caring. There was a slight mistake with my billing and how I was charged on my card and she confirmed that everything would be handled and it would be okay and sure enough… she was right! Overall, I am definitely, coming here again and I look forward to coming on Friday nights as that seems like a great hang out spot. I came solo and didn’t have NOPROBLEMS! The area is great and it’s right near downtown Oakland! Food is delicious and the restaurant is so welcoming. It’s like walking into my friend’s house and enjoying good meal and drinks. That’s how all places should be right? Go there and enjoy! You will have a great time! REVIEW52⁄196

Delicious Peruvian cuisine! Attentive service. My mouth is doing a happy dance with the flavor of lime and chile. The meat was tender, ceviche divine, muscles amazing. Definitely coming back!

Sooooo good! The taste is satisfying yet delicate. It looks expensive when you walk in but it is reasonably priced. The dessert was AMAZING! The service was so friendly without it being fake friendly. Tasted like cuisine with the down to earth service of your local taqueria.

The food was very good, the empanadas were delicious. The atmosphere was cool, I love their modern decoration and huge window that lets in tons of light. Unfortunately I agree with some other reviews that i felt like it was over priced. They have a decent happy hour deal for tapas though — $ 7 a plate. Definitely curious about events that go on in the back/club space!

I haven’t been back here in a few years, and they didn’t disappoint. The food and the service was top of the line. My two little girls thoroughly enjoyed their Tallarines Verdes and they are very picky. Our servers were polite and knowledgeable on the dishes being served and that was a huge plus. A must come back!

We loved this restaurant. The food was amazing, the people were knowledgable and fun, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting! The fried plantains were incredible!

Not authentic Peruvian restaurant. When you go to a Peruvian restaurant ask where the chef/cook is from or where he was trained. If is not from Peru then the food is not authentic. I ate there months ago and the food was not authentic. I am Peruvian and born and raised in Peru.

If you’d like to spend half the cost of a plane ticket to Peru for a almost authentic tasting ceviche, then this is the place for you. Especially if you’re on a tech salary. Unfortunately I am not, maybe sometime in the far future.

I am Peruvian and I am always looking for a good Peruvian Resturant since there is so few around. This however is not one of them. Ordered chorrito’s and it was horrible. Very dry, no juice, uncleaned and not fresh mussels. Prices are ludicrous, there was no dish under $ 20. I ordered chorrito’s and two drinks and it was over $ 30. Usually this should cost well under $ 20. We were the only customers in there and that should have tipped us off. I discourage anyone looking for an authentic Peruvian meal to visit this place. Also the bathrooms were very dirty and disgusting.

Authentic Peruvian food in a beautiful atmosphere. Plus live jazz, blues and salsa depending on the night of the week. We went there on the suggestion of a friend and were thoroughly satisfied. Can’t wait to try the other dishes.

If I could give zero stars, I would. There’s a reason this place had last minute reservations on Valentine’s Day. The drinks were ok. The food? Waaaaay overpriced. Our food came out cold so we asked for a fresh plate($ 21 for a cutlet of chicken no bigger than my hand.) We got our food back 5 mins. later — yes, it was warm. However, it was the same plate(I knew because there was a slice off of the chicken that I made)… oh yes, they microwaved it and despite me pointing out the piece that was cut off they denied it and tried to convince me it was a new plate(so the first time around it took nearly 30 mins for our food to come out and this time only 5 mins?!) When I addressed it with the management and then the owner, their excuse: sorry it’s been crazy in the kitchen. It’s Valentine’s Day. Well, they have bigger problems if they can’t handle 40 people in an establishment that’s big enough to handle double or even triple. Even worse, when the manager turned me over to the owner, all he said was, «Yes I heard it all already. We took it back.» They asked if I wanted something else and with my faith and patience exhausted, all I wanted to do was leave. What did they do to compensate us for the unsatisfactory service? Zero. Zilch. Nada. We paid for our $ 91 drink tab(for 4 pisco sours and 3 pisco shots — you do the math — rip off city) and got the hell outta dodge. Two words: bush league.

First time here, in town for a running race. It was absolutely delicious! Fernanda was our waitress, and she was above-and-beyond kind. We had Papa a la Huancaina for an appetizer, and split orders of Ceviche Mixto and Jalea Especial. Everything was fantastic! Some of the best ceviche I’ve ever had, and the Jalea(lightly breaded/fried fish) was spectacular. Slightly spicy, but rich in flavor. Can’t thank them enough. They were very kind and I will definitely return any time I am in the area.

The food tastes great, but way overpriced!!! One particular waitress was VERYDECEITFUL. Supposedly, certain items(5 non alcoholic beverages and a plate of Yuca Frita appetizer shared by all) were given to us «on the house» because we had to wait a long time for our food. Which seemed pretty generous on their part. Well, to cut the story short, we were charged $ 200(excluding 20% tip) for two(2) Arroz Con Mariscos, two(2) Jalea Especial, and one(1) Pescado A La Chorillana. Dinner price for each of the entrée we ordered was around $ 10 more than the published internet menu!!! BUT do the math. We shouldn’t be paying $ 48 a piece for a twenty something dollar entrée plus tip. It was a Sunday evening(09÷27÷15). I came with a group of five(5) from an event and we were not very familiar with each other. Having fun chatting and getting to know each other, each one was preoccupied. No one examined the bill. No one openly questioned the amount, not wanting to look like a «cheap skate.» I feel victimized!!!

I usually have a pisco sour with dinner. They are very good. The bistek encebollado is a nice classic dish and will not disappoint. I tried the arroz con mariscos(Peruvian paella) and it was exceptional. The flavors cannot be beat for Jack London. Everything was tasty, the service has been friendly and accommodating each time we’re here. The ambience is beautiful and the music is awesome. The portions are smaller than most US restaurants but, really, is probably closer to what humans should be eating as opposed to this huge mountain of food in one sitting. Overall, I recommend this place for anyone who enjoys a nice dinner and great vibe.

I had a Groupon, and I went for lunch. After perusing that menu I was told I had to order from the dinner menu. The prices for entrees were double, yet they were exactly the same size!?! …just sayin. The food itself was great. I had the steak strips, first on the menu. The soup was incredible too. I also had the shortbread caramel dessert which basically was a cookie sandwich. That was just ok. The back of the restaurant is a swanky night club.

So disappointed in this place. We came on a Saturday afternoon, when the food is almost twice the price(lunch menu only operates M-Th). Service was pleasant if inattentive and the food… well, it was okay, but for $ 20 a plate, it ought to be amazing. And it really wasn’t that much to write home about. The ceviche was ok, but the seafood upgrade wasn’t worth it. Our favorite dish was the lamb. Really can’t see myself coming back here again.

Very impressed. Causa, ensalada Rusa and lomo saltado. Great value and price for authentic(non gourmet) Peruvian food.
