Horrible service. Rushed and demanding orders. Slamming plates in front of our faces like we’re trash. And at the very end when we didn’t get exactly what we ordered he still insisted for us to pay full price for an item we didn’t eat OR order. At the very end when we left and I decided to not tip the guy. He calls me back when I’m half way out the door saying«where’s the tip? You don’t tip!?» Man I nodded my head in disappointment and left. Cmon now …

Best Chinese restaurant in Oakland period! My friends and their families use to eat here all the time for Sunday family dinners. Finally we tried this place for Sunday dinner with our family. The selection is huge with traditional and westernized Chinese food(Shrimp Egg Fu Young is my fav). The prices are fair and dishes include many healthy vegetables and traditional clay pot dishes. Next time you are in Oakland and can’t make it to Chinatown, try Ly Luck restaurant for really, really good Chinese food!

Ly Luck is now my everyday to order my lunch restaurant, their food is tasty and big portion, they recognized me and they always prepared my lunch after I called for to-go, servers are friendly and with convenience parking around. It is also a great place to bring your friends and family for dinner.

What i like about this place is that the food is consistently good. I haven’t really tried anything I didn’t like here. The service is also consistent during my times here. Always nice and never gets our order wrong. Okay prices. If you live in dimond I would go here for convenient and good Chinese food.

I been coming here since I was a kid, even before I was born I my parents used to come here when they were dating when the original owner Nancy and her family owned it. That’s 4 decades and we will continue to come for the next 4. It’s that good, the food quality has stayed the same, I miss the old faces but it’s nice to know that you can blend well with the new owners, not so new anymore lol. Anyhow I wish this restaurant only the best, I wish them prosperity and good faith. Please drop in and remember they close at 9! Take care and God bless.

My dear late aunt used to invite the family to dinner here and we found the food to be very authentic and tasty. About a year ago, one of my cousins treated the clan to dinner… same review. For Father’s Day today, I took some food to go and what a huge disappointment! The walnut prawns did not even fill half of the take-out container. When I called the restaurant, the man told me that there are supposed to be 14 prawns(okay, there WERE14 rather small so-so prawns.) Worse still, there were hardly any walnuts. His«apology» had the sincerity of a doorknob. The kung pao beef had little beef, loads of vegetables and watery, bland sauce. The lamb clay pot had watery sauce as well, not much lamb, plenty of lettuce and water chestnuts and a large two inch chunk of ginger! Sadly, I will no longer patronize them!

My old college roommates and I came here for my birthday two years ago. We gave it another go the other day when we reunited for one of our birthdays. The food is just as good as I remember. The portions are big and the dishes are not overwhelmingly salty. The one aspect I didn’t like about the restaurant was the service. We ordered three main dishes and fried wontons. The wontons and two of the main dishes came out after 35 minutes and the last main dish, which was fried rice, came out when we were just finishing the rest of the dishes. We were pretty full by the time the last dish came out, so we packed it to go for lunch. The food here is okay, but nothing too special. Not pricey at all; you get the best bang for the buck. I recommend getting a vegetable dish, as they are pretty fresh here:)

Went here for lunch yesterday. I haven’t been to this restaurant since 1985 and it’s still here! I had the Tomato Beef over rice and some potstickers. My friend had the Duck Won Ton soup with noodles. $ 6.25 per rice plate and the portions are about 1.5 as much as I need to eat for lunch. Recommended! This is my 100th Unilocal Review!

Came here for a family dinner. Food was very yummy. Cant say there wasn’t anything i didn’t enjoy eating. They do use a lot of salt in the food, cause that night my mouth was all dried out.

Came for the sticky rice stuffed and de-boned fried whole chicken. A unique dish that few Chinese restaurants make and if they do, you need to give them a day’s notice so they can prepare it. A bit pricey, but worth the experience. Had an entire multi-course banquet here with seafood tofu soup, sautéed eggplant, fried calamari, green beans and sliced stir fried beef, Peking spareribs, steamed fish, and fried rice. The only real disappointment was the fried calamari which was advertised as salt and pepper calamari. No, there’s a difference. This was deep fried calamari. Pretty darned inexpensive and they give you a heap of food. Dumpy place, but what the heck. Food was pretty good. Service adequate. Plentiful street parking on a Monday night with available parking lots to service some nearby businesses.

I prefer the non traditional dishes here, or seasonal offerings. And mu shu pork is good and they will bring extra pancakes. Had green beans and salmon with black bean sauce recently, the salmon was a bit fishy, but the green beans were perfect. The prawns and veggies with lobster sauce was excellent. My family likes traditional– the fried rice is moist, not like it’s made with dry leftover rice. My hubby said the Mongolia beef was good, lots of beef. Having gown up in asia, I appreciate that this feels like I’m in a restaurant in Taiwan. And just as my dad said«I liked that they always brought some fruit like orange slices in Taipai» they brought fortune cookies and orange slices here!

Have to say that tonight’s meal was the worst Chinese meal I’ve ever had. Granted I’ve never had Panda Express but this couldn’t be better than even faux Chinese food. I live literally a block away but still have done my best to resist ordering from here because the other two times they’ve screwed up my order. Funny though tonight it was right but oh so wrong. Ordered the Wor Won Ton Soup cuz my wife said so. It was like warm chicken broth with flavorless canadles, pieces of chicken fat and bok choy. So I was checking out this new website called«the Google» and she confirmed what I already knew because I’m smarter than the internet, «Wor» means something like everything and three ingredients does not everything make. BAD Then we had the beef with green vegetableS, notice how the«S» is uppercase? That’s to show that it is meant to be plural, as in multiple or many. This was 5 strips of absolutely inedible beef and a container full of Bok choy. Not a pea, nor a piece of broccoli, not green bell pepper, nor anything else green. There was 1 sliver of carrot which I concluded must have been leftover in the wok from the last dish that was prepared like crap. Finally, we has the tomato need chow mein. This was prepared with only the best canned tomatoes and cheapest«beef» possible. Not a piece of said meat was eaten as it was a texture that was unknown to most humans. The noodles were overcooked. I would say the highlight of the dish was that there was no bok choy. Will never be back and if I have it my way neither will any of my neighbors. Sometimes being as cheap and uncaring as possible can cost you.

The food was tasty and delicious. This was my 1st time dining here and I was disappointed they were out of many menu items at 6:30pm. I loved the snap pea leaves, and all the vegetables were cooked to perfection with crunch and taste. Nothing fancy, definitely comfortable and a hole in the wall place. I would definitely return.

food: 2 Service: 2 value: 3.5 OVERALLRATING: 2 My family and I used to always go there for family gatherings but lately the quality and quantity of the service and food has gone down. Some of the works are rude and have the facial expression as if they hate their job. good: food — Pan fried noodles, Honey walnut shrimp, salt and pepper ribs, and the duck was okay Cons: food — soy sauce fried flounder, was way too salty. service — they take a long time to serve us and take our order. They barely came around just to ask us if we needed water. Lastly one of the waitress had the nerve to ask us for more tip. I have never had one of the workers ask for more tip, especially with the type of service we got.

I wanted so much to give this restaurant a 2.5 stars. My mom(93 years old), my husband, my brother and I had a late lunch at Ly Luck. It wasn’t the food and/or the service that was bad. It was a sticky filmy table that turned me off. I wasn’t sure how long it has been left in that condition. I tried to overlook the situation… not easy. We did not order the family style dinner; instead we opted for a la carte items off the menu… Mongolian beef, double mushroom chicken, honey glazed walnut prawns, braised eggplant with garlic sauce and steamed rice. Restaurant provided us with complimentary soup. My mom’s favorite dish was the honey glazed walnut prawns. Even though the glazed walnuts were good, the prawns were lacking in flavor. Husband enjoyed the Mongolian beef. Beef was tender and well-seasoned. Double mushroom chicken was quite good with button and shiitake mushrooms, carrots, zucchinis — veggies were cooked to perfection and not mushy. Braised eggplants with garlic sauce had a nice kick and complemented the steamed rice. There was plenty of leftovers for dinner. I love this place! For the price, you cannot get more traditional Chinese than this place! Ly Luck caters to a lot of people, but this place is definitely a «diamond in the rough.»(Pun intended since this place is located in the Diamond District of Oakland). I have been eating here since I was knee-high to a duck. Over 10 years. Probably even 15. This place has been a main staple and my family’s go-to restaurant. When it’s too warm, or too cold, or we’re too lazy to cook: «Ly Luck». There does not need to be a verb. Just those two words incite action and almost no complaint. Very, very budget friendly. The owners are very, very friendly. We usually come here for large groups/parties because for very little money, you can feed an army. One of the best things they came out with many years ago is the 3 items for $ 19.99. Comes with rice and soup, and if you go on Sundays, they have the donhua(tofu flower) dessert. It is much better than just cold cut oranges, trust me! Tip: Go on Sunday, and try their chicken wings!!!(They make them«Frenched»)

Awesome chinese food here. Don’t just order fried rice, chow mein, egg rolls, and sweet and sour orange chicken. There are plenty of better dishes that are usually undiscovered. The salt and pepper pork for example, is bomb. The spinach dish is great too. Combine that with steamed fish(either trout or catfish) and you’re good to go to have a filling meal for up to 4 people with some white rice. ^typical chinese meal. 3 dishes for 17 bucks is the deal here. Comes with complimentary soup and dessert. That is a DEAL man. It can be slow here in terms of service and food because there is only a couple waitresses and probably one chef in the back. Also because this place is pretty popular at peak hours. One of my go to chinese places for dinner. Take out is a great option here too, so call in!

Not the fanciest place for Chinese. When was the last time you had fancy Chinese for the price Ly Luck had? I’ve always order to take out, what I got were good. I like the reasonable price, timely order, and the convenience.

Little known fact I like Doubles. Double Shots, Double Scoops and Double The Trouble. Last time I was at Ly Luck I saw a special plate they had Double Lobster. That was enough to peak my interest. After a successful business meeting and a leisurely day of watching Playoff Football. I decided to reward myself with a nice Lobster Dinner. I remembered Ly Lucks Double Lobster and set my course in the Weekend Whip for lower hills Oakland and Ly Luck. I was able to park a block down and roll into Ly Luck. I was greeted and seated and presented with Tea and a Menu. I told the Waiter I wanted the Double Lobster Dinner. He smiled and said good choice. He also brought me a Bowl of House Soup which was hearty and tasty. 15 Minutes Later he brought me a Platter with 2 whole Lobsters in Ginger and Scallion sauce and a Bowl of Steamed Rice. I was in Lobster Heaven. Each Bite was Divine. I was in Double Nirvana . I Love Lobster. I paid by Visa and Rolled out in my Whip.
