There sign says they close at 930 yet these people close at 750 on a monday. False advertisement. Owner I assume who helped me is real rude, the guy who takes your orders stinks of cigarettes and the place looks like a dump. Save your money and your health by not eating here. Very unprofessional.

I walked to this place today from 17th and telegraph according to the address on Unilocal. When I got there, it was not«Off the hook» but Kingston 11 Cuisine. Since the half mile I walked was good exercise, I won’t complain about the waste of time. A guy inside Kingston told me that they have moved, and that he wouldn’t recommend eating there based on how they left the restaurant upon moving. I ended up at Burrito Express down the street, and I am happy that I did. :)

This place may not be the best for date night or Mexican food but, the fried filet of sole and prawns are always delicious. Call in your order or wait… for – like – ever!

I can’t even get to a review of the food because the manager or owner is really unsanitary. He doesn’t use gloves, and he uses the same towel to wipe his hands and the nasty tables and counters. Gross.

The inside needs to be updated however the food is good. There is a stale smell in there not sure if it’s due to the hot weather. They always got the tv on sports

Friends and I were in the area for First Friday 2 days ago. I was pretty hungry by the time we reached this spot and thought we can grab a quick bite before continuing on. Little did I know I’ll be having one of my worst meals in quite some time. I ordered their sole with a side of potato salad. It turned out to be a fairly big portion of fish that had been cut so thin that I imagine they must have used a mandolin to slice them into pieces, then breaded them VERY generously to add bulk. Everything was then deep fried. I had to peel off the breading just to check if I’ve really gotten any fish. They could have served me deep fried cardboard for all the ‘enjoyment’ I’ve gotten out of it. The potato salad was sweetened(!) and when I asked for water, it came lukewarm in a Styrofoam cup(!!) One of my friends ordered a taco which she said was not even warm. It’s just all wrong…

Old hard rice, nasty meat sitting for hours, flies flying everywhere, The owner is rude and full of himself every since he moved to the new location. The quality has gone down and so has the business! Gross gross gross!!! I ate here and had a burrito full of undercooked rice, I took it back, he yells what wrong with it, I tell him taste the rice and his face looks stunned! Yeah buddy was my thought! your serving Hard ass rice! He gets a pissy attitude and throws me back my 9 bucks and change!!! Never again will I eat where I am not appreciated for my business!!! And keep serving that hard ass rice to the unknowing crack heads and drunks from off telegraph that hang around the place!

I got a veggie burrito for $ 6.50, cheapest thing on the menu. The only redeeming factor is the size, 2 servings. As far as taste, how can you mess up a burrito? It had rice beans cheese sour cream onion and tomatoes with sauce. It was dry and bland, needed hot sauce! Where was this«sauce» they claim? I hope the seafood portion of the menu is better, but I wouldn’t go back to find out! The burrito ruined my respect for their cooking skills. Not to mention a woman returned her catfish and wanted her money back, because it wasn’t cooked!?! No thanks!

Yummy fried oysters. That’s all I got. But I enjoyed every little morsel. I didn’t want to cook tonight or go to a restaurant, so decided to pop in for some quick comfort food and take it home. Not wanting to overdo it, I asked to leave out bread and sides and just give me the oysters. I figured a fresh tomato I had at home would balance out the fried main dish nicely. The gentleman at the counter told me they would throw in a couple of extra oysters. Thanks!!! He quoted me 15 minutes and it was ready in exactly that time. He even brought the food out to me and ran it across the street, where I was just getting out of my car to go across the street to pick it up. The oysters came with 3 dipping sauces, tartar, ketchup, and hot sauce. I honestly have no complaints and will be back to try shrimp next. The only thing of note is that they don’t take credit cards anymore, which I was not prepared for. Good to know for next time and I wish they would reconsider that policy.

Got the the catfish, dry over breaded and thin. Soggy fries, no salt, no napkins in the bag. ok So nothing special. I forgot why I went there; and I hope I don’t forget never to go back. I noticed It’s was not very clean; hands going from register to table to food and back to pockets. I really feel the soul is not in this place at all Oakland!!! I challenge you to hire brown people. I really want to see soul brothers and sisters working more and owning successful businesses. Why do we spend our dollars on soul-less food!,

I will never spend another red cent in this establishment. The service is beyond horrible. I called to ask questions concerning the menu and the man who answered my call to take my order(as well as my money mind you) had the worst attitude and actually hung up the phone in my face. That is beyond disrespectful for any business and especially a neighborhood establishment where it is basically the residents of that neighborhood that keep you in business. When I called back another man answered the phone and was slightly more pleasant but because of the first caller I was completely turned off. I took my business down the street to a more friendly establishment where I knew my money and questions would be accepted. There is no reason to have a horrible attitude with customers inquiring about your business. Good customer service goes along way.

Time: 7:26pm Purpose: Took free Broadway shuttle from work attending the first Friday event. Ambiance: Located in not so good area of up town Oakland. Wooden tables and chairs with 26in flat screen facing more for the workers looking out the 1in bulletproof glass. Feels like a place in Compton or Inglewood. Everything is behind the 1in safety glass even napkins and menus. Staff: Two Hispanic girls working the front while two guys working in the back peeping and cooking. The girl taking order was slump over the counter looking really bored as everyone nearby were enjoying first Friday activities. No greeting at all one menu tape from inside of glass. Cleanliness: It looks clean from the other side of counter because everything was hidden from view so I have nothing to say about it. Tables and chairs were clean maybe someone just did it a few minutes before I arrive. Caught a quick glimsp of the back and well rather not say. Eats: Steak burrito ces in one size only«super» $ 8.63 weights nearly 2.5lbs. I share it with coworker. We already had a drink from one of the vendors selling pupusas. These burritos are huge but sadly quality brings the excitement back to a low. Everything tasted like it’s from a can I mean from the fixings of sour cream, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, onions, jalapenos, cilantro. The meat was dried out but was sitting inside a tub of juice trying to revive it. Products: Burritos, enchilada, nachos, fries, bread, coleslaw, green or potatoes salad, tacos, seafood and combos. Cold drinks only also behind the glass have to ask for it. Expectations: Sketchy area crackheads walking zombies. What ever you need is behind the bulletproof glass with drill out holes for speaking. Place looks like if there was trouble outside the seating areas workers will not help or come out glass is to protect them not you. Sign posted no credit card taken here debit and ETM welcome only with a $ 10 minimum a charge of $.35 will be added to debit usage. Final Thoughts: With area and the settings inside like that I would call ahead first get the price over the phone. This way I can gather up my funds to the penny once I get inside hand it over hope they count fast and accurate my life is in jeopardy here as transients walking by seeing you with food will ask for change and something to eat.

Food: I wouldn’t call it authentic, but it’s tasty and burritos have girth. burritos are a must try here. Their fired seafood is also worth trying. I’ve tried the catfish and red snapper. To be honest, everything here is palatable. The burrito is a bit salty because of all the cheese, but other than that, you’ll have a decent meal. Service: This is a different matter altogether. Barely functional service. No smiles or frills, just ‘order in, order out.’ I could see how people have bad experiences here. Value: A bit pricey. $ 13 for a super beef and prawn burrito. To be fair, they do use meaty shrimp and a grip of cheese.

Dear Mr./Mrs. Proprietor, Your business is destined to plateau and remain stagnant, because your food is average, your wait time is too long(because you refuse to hire more help), and your practices are P-I-S-S P-O-O-R! I watched you handle money and immediately make a burrito w/o washing your hands. You are unsanitary. To cut corners, you don’t add the basic utensils to to-go orders: napkins, straws & plastic ware –you also charge .35¢ for each credit card/debit transaction. I watched you not issue receipts to any of your customers. When I requested my receipt, u gave it begrudgingly. Case in point: Just because you’re located in «tha hood» and service inhabitants of «tha hood», doesn’t mean you run your business with«HOOD» mentality!

This place was so not off the hook. The food here is not exactly cheap and especially not a good price for its quality. The steak and shrimp burrito is popular. The super steak burrito was not bad, but incredibly wet inside. Good thing about it was that it was big. Tacos can be made with soft or hard shell. The soft are pricier than the hard. They don’t typically do seafood fillings for the tacos unless you ask. Shrimp or fish tacos will generally double the price. The shrimp is pretty juicy, but also kinda charred. I would not recommend the tacos. Also note they use coarsely shredded cheddar that does not melt because the food isn’t warm enough. They wrap each taco in a 11×17 sheet of foil. The burritos get double wrapped. The gumbo only comes in one size and it’s large. They do not serve by the cup or pint. The service is incredibly slow, so I would suggest phoning in your order. — cash, unless you want an extra charge for credit — uses way too much foil — still uses styrofoam, which is banned in Oakland
