Great food, nice little street in downtown Oakland. My girl got the phở. I got the vermicelli with beef. So good. They also have artisan sodas and their Vietnamese ice tea has kept me up pretty late. So far the best phở I’ve ever had. The noodles were so good– it’s hard to explain– just taking a bite will make you smile!

Pretty good Vietnamese place in Oakland. Came here on a weekday lunch with work colleagues. We came before 12pm so we were able to sit right away, but after 12pm the place filled up! food: 5 stars. I had the shrimp rolls for an appetizer and the bun cha vermicelli plate with pork and imperial rolls. Both were excellent. Service: 4 stars. Very prompt, kind. Not going to of your way, but quick and polite. Cleanliness: 4 stars. It’s a lot nicer inside(and looks a lot fancier) than what you would imagine from the streets. Price: 4 stars. This isn’t the cheapest place, but you get great value for the money you do spend. I recommend the shrimp rolls, and the vermicelli bowl that I got with pork and the imperial rolls. If you’re looking for a good lunch place and like Vietnamese, check this place out!

A group of us were going to a show at the fox downtown and we wanted some good Phở for a rainy day. This place popped up on Unilocal with decent reviews so the 5 of us made a reservation and went. I ordered the standard chicken Phở, beef broth. Not a of veggies, pretty standard but good flavor and all pver our dishes were affordable. Not to mention, the $ 4 beer selection was great before going to an expensive music venue if that’s your thing too. I would recommend this place and go back.

Went for Phở the other day with the wife and newborn. The«regular» beef phở was excellent. The broth was extremely rich and had a great body/flavor. The place was packed. It’s kind of older looking décor, but nothing bad.

Exceptional. Finally, a nice, clean restaurant that serves phở and feels like a warm dining atmosphere. The service was exceptionally friendly across the board, and they were happy to make substitutions to our orders. The phở itself was amazing — we did the #4 but added prawns and subbed beef broth. The vegetables were plentiful and it was hearty. I feel like I finally found my neighborhood spot in Oakland, and top marks for friendly and genuine service.

I wish I could leave a better review. I came to this place while visiting from Los Angeles. My cousin recommended it, said it was the best in Oakland but… Its way Overpriced and food was not tasty. Ordered the veggie phở, tofu spring rolls and egg rolls. Egg rolls were tiny. when eating the spring rolls all. of the inside fell out. They don’t close them up on the ends, I didn’t like that. I also don’t like that their sodas are out of a can. Place is nice and the ambiance is too but it’s to expensive for what I had. Spent over $ 85 on 3 soups and an 2 rolls. Probably will not be going back.

It’s just too expensive for what it is but it is good. The restaurant is not authentic in that it is yuppified Vietnamese and the price shows it. I did love my red snapper dish. But I am just used to more authentic and cheaper. The coconut water was vita coco from a box. So wrong

Yoooo, now there’s some tasty downtown phở right at your doorsteps! The décor is ultra-modern for phở restaurant standards, but it’s complemented by good flavored food all around. Especially when it comes the iced Vietnamese coffee and beef phở, you can’t beat the taste of authenticity. The vermicelli noodles and egg rolls were also a hit, with not a single plate left behind at our table. Staff is sweet and friendly, some being there since the late 80’s, so you’re supporting the local spots. The only letdown is the price. A few add-ons here and there and you might be looking at a $ 17 dish of vermicelli and egg rolls.

Pretty good. So this is a Zagat rated Vietnamese restaurant and rightfully so. Everything tasted fresh and«clean». Great customer service and is definitely higher end which the prices reflect. The phở was tasty, but a bit light on the noodles. The flavor was good and meat a plenty. I ordered the vermicelli dry noodle salad. This was packed to the brim with food and tasted very good as well. We’ll definitely be back when we’re in the mood for some good quality Vietnamese food.

It might have been the anticipation(Smashing Pumpkins later at the Warfield), the weather(raining hard), or the company(Traci J.), but Phở 84 was ephing perphect on a certain night in 2014 – or should I say two thousand phourteen? I didn’t have phở! I didn’t have phở! But that’s OK, because I liked what I had. My umbrella was getting the floor all wet, but they didn’t care. My backpack was very wet as well, but that was thanks to my ill-suited-for-that-particular-downpour umbrella. The service is good, although I couldn’t tell whether they were trying to get us out of there so they could close up – wait, it wasn’t late, so that couldn’t have been it. Traci and I talked about what we always talk(ed) about. Even now. Even on December platonic hangout dates in 2015, not 2014. Because that’s how Traci and I are, and it’s kind of perfect – or perphect. I liked it when women referred to their female friends as girlfriends. There was and is nothing wrong with that imprecision, especially since people these days find nothing wrong with hypercorrecting their grammar and, thus, making it grammatically incorrect in an effort to make themselves sound more educated and/or intelligent, but it has the opposite effect, because using the nominative case when you shouldn’t just makes you sound, well, bad. Let’s practice: «Her and me, her and me.» Let’s practice further: «It occurred to her and me that our friends sounded like idiots when they said, ‘It occurred to she and I.’» Would you ever say, «It occurred to we»? If not, why do you insist on saying«It occurred to she and I»? Back to Phở 84. I was going to go with three stars, but in the rain with Traci before Smashing Pumpkins and feeling like I was in high school again? No, Phở 84, you deserve better, and you’ll get what you deserve. Vegetarian friendly.

This restaurant had a lovely ambiance and this was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. We ordered the imperial rolls and the beef tartar with lemon(it was under a Vietnamese name I don’t remember) as appetizers and the rolls were really good but the beef was absolutely incredible. I got #64 for the main course and it was a huge, tasty plate full of vegetables and tofu cooked just right on top of a mat of rice noodles. It was a really good, simple stirfry and was super satisfying. The only problem is that they were out of a lot of stuff that my group wanted, including the phở my brother was going to get so I don’t know how that was. All around I was very impressed and will definitely come back next time I’m in town.

I can’t even remember the last time I ate at Phở 84, it’s got to be at least 3 years ago… This used to be my go to spot for my «first lunch» date with most guys in the past since it was next to my old work place and the food here is usually good. Also, if a guy can’t afford a $ 17 meal on a first date, he’ll just stop calling & I won’t have to worry about a second date. LOL Even though it’s a phở house, I’ve never ordered phở here so I can’t comment on the flavor of their phở broth. I have had the ca chien mam me(fish fillet in tamarind sauce) every time I’m here and I’ve never been disappointed. I really like the saffron rice because it smells so nice and fragrant. Also, tastes great & goes with fish dish really well. Service is average because I usually come during peak lunch time and it’s always crowded. Today, I was lucky enough to get a table for 3 within 15 minutes of arriving since I called while I was driving in & the lady was nice enough to put my name on the waiting list. If you want to avoid the lunch crowd, come after 1:30.

Going to make this review short and sweet… Service was good and atmosphere was nice, but the food was alright, and way overpriced. Why pay so much more for mediocre phở and rice dish when you can get something better maybe a few blocks away. I can’t justify paying that Much more for better ambience. That may be just me, but I probably won’t be coming again anytime soon.

This is the place to go if you are looking for a comfy place to have Vietnamese food. Space is a little nicer than your standard Vietnamese place, and so is the service. I ordered the fried imperial rolls with taro and imitation crab. I also opted for the pineapple lemongrass soup served with rice instead of phở so I will gave too me back for phở.

This place has nice ambience but the food is a bit Americanized and a bit overpriced for what it is. I had the chicken with broccoli, green beans, and onions in spicy lemongrass soy sauce. The dish is pretty good(vegetable cooked just the right amount rather than often overcooked vegetables in Asian restaurants). I like the spiciness of the dish but it had an overtone of sweetness which is a sign of tailoring to more Americanized clientele. Good service!

A few years ago a friend of mine brought me to this awesome restaurant before a show at the Fox and silly me… I didn’t note the location or name of the restaurant. I am so relieved and happy that I happened upon it one day while walking around Uptown! YaY! We’ve been back several times since and everything I’ve had here has been fantastic. The servers are nice and the food usually comes out very quickly. My favorite is the #5 Canh Chua — a vegetable rich soup with a spicy lemongrass broth… it’s SOO delicious! The vermicelli salad bowls are yummy and refershing and I also love the #49, chicken marinated then cooked in chef’s special sauce then served over spinach… omg it’s tasty! They won’t let you split the check more than 2 ways, including cash, so if you’re in a bigger party be prepared!

I only ordered takeout, because it’s always busy around lunchtime. But it was delicious! They prepared the food with generous portions even though I only ordered a regular brisket phở. I’ll be coming back on a Saturday in hopes that there is seating available. Of all the phở restaurants in the east bay, this has made it to my top 5.

We were craving phở on a cold stormy day. We decided to get it to-go and eat it back at the office(now I realize transporting phở is never the best idea, but we knew what we were getting into, it’s not our first rodeo). When we looked it up the menu, I remember being surprised that it was 10 bucks, but whatever, prices will be inflated around here. First, they got our order wrong, but there were a couple of us. So whatever, it happens on the phone with the language barrier. We waited for them to make our order again once we were there. The restaurant was really crowded. I hope it’s not because people think their food is good(it isn’t) but because it was phở weather(it was rainy). Finally, got our food and made our way back to our office. Everything about it was bad. The noodles were bad, the broth was eh, wasn’t much meat and I don’t think the meat was that great either. The noodles all broke, I know there’s casualty when packing noodles to go. But every single noodle broke, maybe they should pack it differently? Instead of stuffing it all on the bottom and then cramming raw meats on it in a small container. Anyways, nothing about the meal was good(noodles, meat, broth). And it was expensive too. Phở shouldn’t be more than 7 to 8 bucks! Not coming back.
