I grew up in Chicago and Rebel-Dog has the best dogs outside of Chicago!

Ok dog nothing to die for wouldn drive too far to eat here. If your in the hood and want a change pf pace its ok. Bun is more of a roll and was very tasty. Very reasonably priced. Lemon dog ok mild flavor. Bird dog had good flavor and little spice to it. Over all ok place

I know, it’s weird, someone who doesn’t eat meat eating at a hot dog place. But, the vege dog is actually quite good. Not to mention only $ 3 with tons of sauerkraut, relish, onions and mustard to pile on. Yummy!

As a CAL grad, I can never turn down Top Dog. Even when it’s 10:30am in the middle of Oakland. The owner recently renamed this place Rebel Dog(no idea why… Top Dog is a brand!), but the food is still the same: delicious. For you vegetarians, the Veggie Dog is amazing — lots of flavor and you hardly miss the meat. Great location too with a huge courtyard outside and free live music during lunch time(provided by the city of Oakland… not Rebel Dog). Perfect for a dry day!

No longer a Top Dog, the owner now has renamed it Rebel Dog. But as they say a rose by any other name is still a rose and this place is no exception. Right now the only two things that keeps this place from being 5 stars is no sit down stools and the square is being remodeled to the point where you have to walk a quarter mile around the construction just to get to the place. This is a place Anthony Bourdain would appreciate(lot’s of pork product) served reasonably fast and taste bud pleasin’.

They have great options. I love the lemon chicken, very tasty. I usually go to the one in berkeley but I discorved this inside of the Framk Ogawa plaza when I was at lunch one day. One dog enough for me but they do have a meal type of deal(doggie bag) which comes with a fountain drink and a bag of chips or a small container of pasta for $ 5.25. Just the amount I like to spend for a full lunch. Dont forget your cash because they dont accept credit/debit cards. Upside there is an ATM located a few steps away.

first off, the all beef hot dog was decent, but the bun to meat ratio was WAYOFF. too much bread! so i ordered a side salad of pesto pasta which was sitting on ice on the counter. i asked if i should take the display or wait for another. i got the rudest crudest response of ALLTIMEFROMANYONE who ever worked in a food establishment. he said, «either way, i just don’t give a sh*t» do you believe that response? incredible! NEVERAGAIN will i step foot in this ridiculous little dog stand. even if they paid me to eat here. come on!

Definitely a fan of $ 3 hot dogs. Lots of variety of sausage. I tried the chicken apple and enjoyed it on a toasted bun. Located conveniently in City Center, great place for an after work snack or middle of the day lunch.

Unless you work in the area, this location is hard to get to because of the parking situation. This is a small location in city center along with other restaurants. The hot dogs themselves were really good, I go to try a few of them. My favorite was the German Frankfurter which was the juiciest of the lot. Least favorite was the lemon chicken which was a little tough. The person who works here was very friendly and helpful, very nice guy.

Good god! These guys need a vacation. Just went into the Top Dog at the City Center and was treated with the utmost disrespect. The man, blond, spiky hair, chubby guy mumbled something that I could not decipher. When I asked him what he said and jokingly asked him if he was speaking English. He quickly became agitated and rude. He spoke to me as if I was a child and gave me the evil eye the whole time I was there. I ran out of there vowing never to go back. Nooo!

OMFG I LOVETOPDOG! When I worked in the city center this used to be my spot. I would have this shit for breakfast and not even think twice about having another for lunch, then after work. How twisted is that? But you know what? Chicken Apple Sausage or a nice Hot Link with hot Russian mustard is good anytime! I has hella top dog!

I didnt know there were so MANY Top Dog locations!!! Thank you for hosting our company hot dog party. The hotdogs were grilled to perfection and the bun was really crunchy and toasted. Yum. We had pasta salad, cesar salads, world market chips(bought to you from our own company) and ice cream. The Top Dog employees were very friendly and still manage to keep the food in stock throughout the hour. Now i have food coma!

To be fair, I’m probably dogged out for a lifetime due to the infliction of occasional Costco doggery by the hubby – you know, the food you have when you should have eaten an hour ago, but somehow didn’t. It’s cheap, it’s fast, and it serves the purpose. What makes Top Dog something far better is the fact that they have a variety of dogs and sides, serve them up quickly and cheerfully, and are located somewhere you won’t get rammed with a cart full of screaming kids and/or industrial-sized feminine products. Enjoy!

Top Dog is to Men as Chick Flicks are to women. You can have your Fried Green Tomatos because I want my dogs smothered in relish, dijon, crimson blood ketchup, gobbs of onions and sourkraut. It is the ultimate establishment for the celebration of being a an all-American guy. If you want your testosterone levels to get boosted up, pump some iron and then come here for lunch. YAWH-OOGIEOOGIEOY-GOYAH-AH-AH! In «there’s something about mary», Cameron Diaz’s character was having lunch with her friends and was describing the kind of guy she wants and she said something to the effect of: «Give me a guy who likes kielbasa and beer and playing thirty-six holes and still has enough energy to take me and Warren out to a ballgame». So, with that quote in mind, if you wanna win«Mary’s» heart, you have come to Top Dog in downtown Oakland’s City Centre area near 12th Street BART. The place is tightly pack with three scruffy looking unshaven gut wrenching guys who don’t mess around. Guaranteed to have your«dog» in 2 minutes(I’m not sure what’s supposed to happen if it goes beyond that time limit), the place is a well oiled machine. They perpetually have various types of «dogs» on the grill, «hot links», «tandoori dogs», «turkey dogs», «lemon health dogs», kielbasas, you name it, on the grill. For $ 5, including the tax, a classic man-like form of simplicity, you get a large drink, any of the«dogs» on their list, a bag, a napkin, a fork, and a side of either salad(potato, pasta, or cole slaw) or chips. What a deal. You’re in and out of there in record time. None of this dillying and dallying around. They take care of business and kick your ass right out of there. My kind of place. A man’s kind of place. The quality is actually probably the best for your money. Don’t worry girls, they have a low fat option for yah(the excellent lemon chicken dog that is low fat, low calories).

Damn good dogs served in a hyperactive, New York style atmosphere. The guys behind the counter may seem like coked up maniacs, but they seem to get everything right and grill up a fantastic red hot. The russian hot mustard is the perfect condiment for said dog as well. Viva hoofs and snouts! Top Dog is a weiner!

When I worked in this area, I think I almost tried every single hot dog they offered at Top Dog. Loved it all! Especially the Smoked Chicken Apple and the Kielbasa. The Kielbasa is a little spicy but even the hot dogs labeled«hot» aren’t that bad. For only a couple dollars, you can get one of these quick(in 5 minutes or so) and you can top it with as much relish, onions, sauerkraut, ketchup & mustard as your soon-to-be-clogged arteries desires. The guys behind the counter are super friendly. This is a little counter type place so there are no chairs but on a sunny day, you can sit in the plaza by the fountain or sometimes there are live bands playing. It’s a little too hectic to go for lunch during the week because EVERYONE working in the surrounding area comes here and most of the restaurants are too packed for comfort.
