How lucky Oakland is to have this festival this year. Several films are being shown though June 19 at the Oakland School for the Arts Black Box Theater. This small venue is an ideal place to enjoy a documentary film I was fortunate to get a pair of tickets for an Honest Liar from Unilocal. It is an educational and entertaining film about the Great Randi. Although this movie is relevant today, I especially enjoyed the TV clips in the movie. If you are old enough to have seen the Johnny Carson show you might have seen Randi on it. I hope this film gets a wide audience. What the Great Randi, and this movie, have to say is important.

2014 marks the 13thSF Documentary Festival and the fest expands to Oakland over two weekends for the first time at the Oakland School of Arts Black Box Theater. Unilocal was offering tickets to Saturday’s showing and I was lucky to be granted tickets. After checking in at the front desk for my reserved tickets and then checking in on Unilocal,we got our Unilocal shopping bag with some snack goodies from Shira W. We then went into the theater to select our seats. The theater is small venue with five floor level rows and two elevated rows with seating for about 122 people. The documentary film was about the life of James«The Amazing» Randi, who has entertained many with his magic, escapes and trickery. Randi saw his beloved magician’s tricks being used by faith healers, fortune-tellers, and psychics to steal money from innocent people and destroy lives. Enraged by this, Randi devoted his life to exposing these frauds as a showman like him would. A very informative and entertaining film. Thanks SF DocFest for bringing the films to the East Bay and the Oakland School of the Arts. Also, thanks to Unilocal and Shira W. for arranging this event.
