Service with a smile. That is lost is this day and age but not here. Best start to the morning, and old fashion glazed, oj, and a smile from the nice workers at this place. Definitely will be back.

Sometimes you just need a good ol’ fashioned fluffy donut, and Star-Lights always delivers! I love bringin’ in donuts for the office and a box of these delicious breakfast desserts is only $ 10. Always reliably soft and a good variety of different kinds!

Apple fritter. Wow. Freshly baked. Deliciously sweet. First time at this place. Small donut shop. The prices are standard. Not the cheapest. 99 cents for a regular glazed donut. $ 1.75 for the apple fritter. I was tempted to get half a dozen but stopped myself to get an apple fritter only. It was big. Not a tiny one. I couldn’t finish it within the same day. 2 days later, ate the rest of it with my husband. Wow, it was still fresh. Not even stale at all. He loved it too. Definitely coming back here for donuts.

Just by chance I walked in and just by chance I was there a «Million to one shot« I took a look at the donuts … not a great selection left, but I was there at 11am so I would not expect there to be. Tried a glazed(superb and fluffy) and an apple thing that looked like a hand without fingers !!! again very good also. Now there in the cabinet close to the donuts some Croissants beckoned … exceedingly large there were almost genetically engineered … I looked at them and plunked for one that the lady picked out for me …
The Croissant … «For me it was all about The Croissant« I know a little about«The Croissant«as I have lived in Paris and it was the daily magic experience … The nearest I have ever had to Paris in the many places I have tried in the Bay Area was at a French café on Union and Fillmore… long gone. There was a baker on Haight Street… I think he was from Vietnam but this was years ago that he made fine French pastries. The Croissant that the owner … a charming Cambodian lady, selected was quite possibly the best and certainly the largest I have ever eaten since Paris and may well have been better than those of years gone by. The perfect balance of a slight crunch on the outside and wonderfully moist non greasy inside that did not leave a coating on the roof of the palate.

Star-light donuts are pretty much gone in the afternoons so you know that’s the main attraction here. other draws: coffee, hot dogs, sammies under $ 5. bud’s ice cream 1.5@scoop pour: peerless coffee(french roast or house blend, m. 1.25 –smooth mellow brew, non acidic, not harsh –definitely on the light side. coffee drips: –yep. west oaktown ghetto, –cheap, good stuff here =4 stars –friendly, prompt service.

My co-worker introduced their donuts to us; she brought in 3 boxes for a potluck and ever since I’ve been hooked! Every chance my office gets, we ask her to bring in a box of Star-Lights Donuts because(there’s no other way to say it but…) the donuts here are THEBOMB! My favorites are the chocolate covered cake donut and chocolate covered old fashion… so good! Not too greasy, not too sweet//so fluffy and oh-so-yummy!

I love the coffee at donut shops! They always seem to get infused with all the sweetness from the surrounding donuts. Like Sonny L. said, this isn’t the glitziest of places to grab your morning fix, but it gets the job done. I ordered a medium coffee for $ 1.25(they don’t accept debit/credit cards) and it was pretty much self service. Grabbed my own cup, poured myself some French vanilla roast(they also have regular, decaf, and French roast), and headed over to pour myself some milk and sugar from two giant containers. They’ve also got donuts(duh), sandwiches, soda, sliced fruit, yadda yadda, stuff donut shops usually have. For $ 1.25, this cup of coffee definitely beats whatever McDonalds is spitting out and calling coffee just a few steps down. Do yourself a favor if you are grabbing coffee, skip the watered down and burnt McDonalds coffee, and follow the Star-Lights to make your morning that much better.

Starlight donuts, may not be the most trendy shop; or even in the best part of Oakland. It’s just that, the donuts here are delicious! It’s a perfect balance between a light crispy texture, to a luxurious sweet donut. I don’t know many donut shops around here that makes a donut just as delightful. Also, there’s a 24 hrs McDonald just around the corner and it’s right off the freeway, also there is a BartStation not to far off. Give it a shot!
