Decent sandwich. Nothing to rave about but it wasn’t gross or delicious, just a sandwich. I wanted a half-sandwich/half-salad combo but they were out of salad. So I

I sure you have heard all the famous sayings –clothing makes the man –its what inside that counts –never judge a book by the cover I happen to feel in the sandwich world, only one saying is needed –its all about the bread with that being said, there is no way Uncle Dougie’s can be anything less than 5 stars — –the bread — -he has told me, he has his specially made for him at the French Union Bakery in North Beach SF — –if you happen to have lived in SF or the Bay Area, or eaten at random Italian places in North Beach, you have likely had French Union Bakery bread — – it is one of the best — – it is not all organic’d, sustainabled, –it is –simply old school bread, done the same way for decades So how can you go wrong with a sandwich from here-? Just having consumed one a second ago, my only regrets, are that I only got one and have to drive back if I want another–

A tasty lunch option in the Lake Merritt area… though I imagine eating here often would have a noticeable effect on the size of your trousers. Dougie’s sandwiches are a receipt for an unproductive afternoon Inside there is plenty of seating, cool interior with interesting art work on the walls and background music which is a welcome addition in my view. Sandwiches are reasonably priced in comparison to surrounding eateries, and definitely better value for money than most. The staff where super friendly, although slightly pushy to signup to the email newsletter. Anyway for an easy life I signed up and marked as spam as soon as I received one. On Sundays they run an all you can eat buffet but I am only in Oakland Mon-Fri so unlikely I will ever be around to try it out.

I entered Uncle Dougie’s with such excitement. I trudged through miles of rain soaked downtown Oakland just to sample one of Dougie’s Chicken Parm sandwiches. Ok, so it was more drizzling than raining and it was maybe half a mile or so. To my great dismay, Dougie was out of Chicken Parms and only had Eggplant Parm. This wasn’t such a tragedy. t was clear I had come at the end of the lunch rush and that little food would be left after I left. Let’s be clear, my sandwich was quite good and filling. There was a ton of eggplant in there for $ 6.50. What bothered me was the seeming lack of freshness. It looks like a whole batch of food is made and when they run out they run out. So here’s my plan. I’ll be back. Most likely at the new Berkeley location. And if I am wowed again and I get a fresher sandwich, I’ll up my review. Easy peasy.

I think it takes a lot of effort to make a Chicken or Eggplant Parm that doesn’t taste so greasy that make you really thirsty or upset your stomach. but they do… it tastes better with a beer, but I shouldn’t have a beer during the workdays. I’ve also had their pasta. pretty good. After having drinks at Layover or Somar on a Friday or Saturday because they’re open from 9:30pm to 2:30am those days. Tasty and sobering meal before I head home. I’ve have to check them out next time they have one of their buffet dinner events.

My whole Bay Area vacay was filled with delicious food because my Unilocal friends hooked it up! However, there was one kink along the way. I really wanted to like this place… I really did. The owner was awesome and sweet and I had the whole review planned using that California Swag District song… too bad they had to disappoint. Teach me how to dougie T-teach me how to dougie Teach me how to dougie T-teach me how to dougie All my butches love me All my, all my butches love me All my butches love me You aint effing wit my dougie! The menu is quite petite so don’t be expecting much. 4 types of sandwiches: Eggplant parm, Chicken parm, Sausage and Peppers, and Meatloaf. I tried both the eggplant parm and the sausage and pepers. Both were underwhelming. I was too tired to get on the Bart and wait in line at Lime to get some Ikes. I wish I had just gone, because this was a waste of calories. I think this would be good around a college or a school because they offer really filling and inexpensive food in a city where rent can be a bit high for even the tiniest of places. The bread was good, but the fillings were not very tasty. Eggplant was blaise, the marinara was bland and had no contrast in taste. The sausage and peppers was overly salty and greasy. I’m sorry I ain’t effing wit dougie no more :(

Picked up a Eggplant Parmesan today for lunch. Complete with a bottle of water and a free mini bag of chips, the total came to $ 8.50. The hero was bomb. The bread they use was toasted. Crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The eggplant itself was tasty, nicely crusted and complimented by marinara sauce that hit the spot. Lunchtime parking in this part of Oakland wasn’t readily available. I just paid a dollar for half an hour on the street, which was plenty of time to grab a hero and chow down before heading back to work.
