Nice location by water and big restraint so if you have a big party I can recommend it too. Their food was very delicious and fresh seafoods but their service was kind of slow.

SHRIMPPLATEFITFOR A GOD(OR A MEREHUMANWITHANIMPECCABLETASTEFORSHRIMP) We were directed to the Captain’s Galley for dinner by a boating tour guide that insisted that the locals feel strongly we’d find the best crab cakes around. I agreed. But call it serendipity if you will, but we also found the best pile of shrimp boiled in some sort of Old Bay concoction ever. They were so good it felt like it would have been a sin to use the provided cocktail sauce for dipping. The crab cakes were splendid as well. They were really thick and had an interesting seasoning combination that tasted like it included cinnamon. They pack a subtle hint of sweetness instilled in a heap of a savory punch. HINT: You should eat dinner here.

Friends of mine have described CG as a great«locals» restaurant, but it seemed pretty touristy to me. It’s a fine shore meal: boat-themed everything, solid seafood, friendly staff(all good), but high prices, generic/unhealthy dishes, and the«famous» salad bar is bare-bones. In hindsight, I wish I would have ordered a crab dish — they looked phenomenal, but my shrimp/scallop in garlic butter sauce was so-so.

We had such a good experience(food and drink wise) on this side of the bridge in OC the night before so our group of six decided to grab dinner here our last night in OC. Expecting to wait during prime time Friday night dining hours we inquired how long the wait will be and to our surprise they had a table available. From the moment we sat and throughout the entire meal our waitress was completely on point. Although she was busy, she patiently answer questions and was very attentive. No faults with the service at all! Since we had such delicious grapefruit crushes next door at Harborside we thought the magic would continue here. Wrong! The grapefruit crush was not very good and didn’t use fresh juice since it tasted prepackaged — very disappointed. We started our meal with the oysters and clams casino — both were a bit meh and inferior to others we had while in OC. We tried a variety of different food — flounder special, crab cake, fried seafood platter, shrimp scampi. some just stuck to the unlimited salad bar. We found most of the food so-so. The seafood platter had fish that was mostly breading, sea scallops that tasted mealy and gummy, a couple of shrimp, along with a luke-warm soft shell crab. I thought the crab cake would be the saving grace, as it did have a lot of crab, but tasted rather bland. Even though I’m not much of a fan of a salad bar the items were very fresh, with just enough variety to make a decent salad. The shrimp scampi was delicious but then again how do you mess up shrimps drowned in butter. This seems like an old school place like so many seafood restaurants my parents brought me to as a child. Its very large with carpet throughout, old school wooden chairs, dated salad bar concept with a large menu which is overpriced for the boring, so-so quality food the Captain’s Galley II is producing. The place can handle large groups well, but there are better meals to be had elsewhere so why bother?
