J Pauls Terrace Cafe

I went tonight with my family. I had The Marinated Moni burger with shoestring fries. I’ve had great burgers in the past (old Donovan’s of Woodside, the chocolate infused burger in The Hershey Lodge) but this was probably the one of the BEST burgers that I’ve ever had.
I like to ask the server for their choice after giving 3 possible choices. I usually say «don’t tell me, you pick». I am so happy with her pick.
My wife had her usual skirt steak sandwich with sautéed onions and melted gorgonzola and sweet potato fries. My normal choice. My kids had grilled salmon and pasta. All I can say is there wasn’t anything left. I will say that the marinated skirt steak is as good as Frank’s (RVC) or any other for a lot cheaper price.

Food is good, just loud a night when they have music playing it’s a small place for a live band. Bar is usually packed on Friday and Saturday nights.

Great bar and dinner place. Nice big booths and atmosphere. The service is excellent, great burgers and steaks. Greatest bartenders and drinks. A very friendly and warm place.

I’ve been here a couple of times and for the most part this place is just average. The most stand out thing that I can remember here was an order of chicken quesadillas that my wife ordered. The menu says the salsa comes on the side, but who ever was cooking that night decided to cook the quesadilla with the salsa on the inside. It was awful! Other than that, for a burger and beer this place is alright.

Good food, but nothing to write home about. I have visited here on multiple occasions, and the food was what you would expect from a neighborhood joint.
OTB betting was a plus!

I had a bad experience with the owner. He is a jerk and a baby. The food is disgusting and the place needs to be revamped. Its dirty in there, how can people eat there I dont know.

The in-​laws live within walking distance from J Pauls and I tend to frequent this café when I’m waiting for them to get home from church or when I need to slip away for a bit like the outlaw that I am. Last week I ordered the house burger with swiss cheese, bacon, sauteed mushrooms and onions and a fried egg. It was perfect! My waitress checked on me often and I was a happy camper.
However, the bar area is hit or miss.
Because I’m not a «regular» I feel like I crash a party whenever I come in on Sunday afternoons — stares and whispers all around. It also doesn’t help when the bartender doesn’t put out the welcome mat. Oh well, I guess that’s my cross to bear. There is far less testosterone during the week so I keep J Pauls on my rotation.
They make great crumbcake which is served during Sunday brunch and you can’t go wrong if you order pub food. They have 14 flat screen TVs as well as FAST TRACK, an OTB horse wagering system. Overall, it’s a good local joint thats been open since 1982.

Great fresh burger. Awesome service. Lunch specials daily. Hot open turkey with mashed potatoes with fresh broccoli was delicious. Solid pub style food. A local bar with lottery games.

food is always good here — turkey a la reuben is my personal favorite! things can be updated but the food makes you look passed it — good drinks and best ranch dressing ever!

Great neighborhood place for a casual dining experience or a good drink. On the bar side, the bartenders are always attentive and friendly. They always make sure you have a cold beer. If you’re a mixed drinks type of person, they always get it right. They are always broadcasting sports but they also have horse racing on ²⁴⁄₇ and OTB machines on premises. On the dining side the wait staff is great and the food is very good as far as a bar/​grill type of place goes. In my opinion these are the best wings you can get anywhere. They are meaty, flavorful, and the blue cheese dressing is addicting. The tidbits (steak, roastbeef, or chicken) are their signature and another must have when you’re here. You can also order food to take out. On Sundays they offer a phenomenal brunch. I’m a bloody mary kind of guy and they do it right here.

Food is very good; the service is better; the friendliness of everyone is unsurpassed. THE place to be for a cold one. A tremendous community supporter – you’ll find some fundraiser or another there. hard to believe it in the space they have, but excellent live music as well. Take out is always prompt, well-​prepared. A top-​notch neighborhood pub/​café.

Loved this place…(Past tense)… Buffalo calamari and the Rachel were among my favorite. …However, the last time me and my boyfriend went here I almost swallowed a huge fried ball of plastic in my appetizer of fried calamari. I was horrified! I will say, I didnt pay for my dinner and the service (after «said» plastic ball was taken away) was very accomodating. I will try this place again… in the very distant future.

Food is excellent and great dinner specials. Service is excellent and the menu offerings are plentiful. Sign up for e-​mails for special events and pricing. Live music is available in the bar on weekends, this is a great place for local pub fare.

Very attentive and upbeat staff. Food has deteriorated a little over the years, but still decent. The bread for their sandwiches is not what it used to be. Prices have risen, as most thing have I suppose.
Bar is usually lively. Parking is awful.

Close to home a nice place to eat

This place is yum. I’ve gone to J Pauls for brunch and dinner mainly because it is walking distance from my husband’s mother’s house. The omelets were super tasty, and even better when paired with a mimosa. For dinner, I opted for their chicken salad with cranberries — terrific. i stole a bite of my husband’s marinated burger, which practically knocked me to the floor. One of the most moist and tasty burgers I’ve had in a very long time. I’d recommend getting here earlier for dinner, because the place fills up. I like that their establishment is nicely divided into the dining area and a bar area.

I’ve eaten here 3 times in the last week due to it’s being walking distance from South Nassau Communities Hospital. The service is fast and friendly. They make you feel like they’re actually happy you came in. Their scallop appetizer had a nice portion of scallops for two people, were fresh and tender. Their Café Roast Beef sandwich, also a good choice. Their burgers are a nice size, cooked to order the way I requested. Not a fan of their regular fries, but the steak fries, sweet potato fries and spicy fries are very good. The beef and barley soup tasted home made, was very thick and delicious.
They have a great bar with plenty of locals. It gets a little loud, not annoying loud, just people having a good time.
The place is clean, service is crisp and friendly, food is fresh and delicious. What the hell else can you ask for? :-)
I’ll definitely be back for a forth time during my stay in Oceanside.

Called ahead of time asking if they had the Vikings/​Colts game and drove all the way there after being told they had every football game on. after getting there the bartender told us the tv s were locked and they couldn’t help us. I called AGAIN after walking out and was STILL told that I could watch every game there! Explained what happened and whoever was on the phone argued with me that we were wrong (despite the fact that I explained I came in). Would never go there after how I was treated by everyone involved. BS sports bar. Was yelled at, disrespected and lied to from all ends.

I“ll have to compliment the service at this place. It was good despite us being there with a rather large group.
I enjoy the variety of things from amazing looking salads (didn’t get a chance to try them) to sandwiches, burgers, apps and dinners.
A couple of us got the tidbits, which gives you a little more bang for your buck. Garlic bread topped with your choice of meat and sauce and cheese with a side of fries or onion rings. I liked that fact that they gave me a little of both since I couldn’t make up my mind.
For the beer drinkers they have seasonal Sam Adams on draft.

Crankin bar /​restaurant.
This place rocks– excellent bartenders with an even more fun bunch of whacked people at the bar. Loud and fun is the best way to explain this place.
Ton of fried foods for the fat bastard in your crowd and almost everything is billed as «the famous J. Pauls» as in the «Famous J. Pauls buffalo wings».
There are a load of TV’s around the bar for the sport nut and they even have para-​mutual betting machines there so you can blow your paycheck on the ponies while drinking. I wonder how many knuckleheads had to go home and tell their wife how that happened!
