The atmosphere was interesting but the food wasn’t great. Service was«ok» but they didn’t know much about the choices on the menu. The main reason for the 1 star vs a 3 is that one of the guests who ordered the salad got food poisoning from the meal. We won’t go back again.

This is your typical family restaurant with a large variety on menu. Visited a few times. We haven’t had a waitress yet to write home about.

We came here for my friend’s wedding rehearsal dinner, and everything went really well. We ate in the train car, which was really neat and something different. You can only fit about 20 or so people in there, so it’s nice for a small group. We had a choice of 3 different entrees, all of which came with bread and a salad. There was chicken, beef medallions, and salmon. I had the salmon, which was cooked perfectly, had a nice sauce on top that wasn’t smothering everything, and some linguine. The portions are huge! Everyone enjoyed their food. They have a full bar on the train car. We had wine and beer(I think every package for these events are different? You will have to do your research because I didn’t book this). There is also a bathroom on the car. I think I was most impressed with the service. A friend spilled some wine(which wasn’t really his fault because there was a gap in between 2 tables that we couldn’t see because of the table cloth). They replaced the table cloth, napkins, and apologized for the incident. They were very professional about it.

Okay, let me preface this with saying I think we screwed up here. Apparently this place is supposed to be great for breakfast and gyros. Neither of which we tried. We went in for supper and ordered French Onion soup, the turkey dinner and pot roast. A+ on the french onion soup, we should’ve stopped there. The pot roast was sliced beef with some weird thick tomato based sauce/gravy? on top. And I don’t mean a little, it was drowning, like I had to scrape it off to find the meat and it wasn’t good. Pot roast to me is beef roasted with potatoes and carrots and sometimes some other veggies in a light gravy. IDK what this stuff was. The turkey was just nothing to write home about and had dry stuffing underneath. So, maybe we give it another, but def. for breakfast not supper. Décor is an old train station, very mom and pop. They had a lot of trash outside the«back» of the restaurant. It’s on a peninsula so you can see all sides of the place. Driving by and seeing the trash/junk outside made me a bit leery from the beginning.

One of our favorite breakfast spots. The corn beef hash is delicious and home made. They have great specials, and the prices are very reasonable. Service is always good, too.

The gyros are phenomenal and portions are HUGE and a ton of food for the price. I have ordered them several times and have not been let down. I have a gluten allergy so I get them without the pita and are still delicious! They even offered to give me a side of fruit to replace the missing pita. My mom loved the gyros so much she asks to come here every time she visits.

Service was great and so was the food. My only fault was their tartar sauce is made with sweet pickles and it just doesn’t taste the same as dill. We plan on going back. Others in our group had the fish fry and burgers. Fish breading was light and reasonably priced. Potato pancakes aren’t as much a pancake but a fitter. Good just the same. Burger was very tasty. We love the train décor and in response to a previous post about not being relivant to local railroads I completely disagree. I thought the banners were a terrific nod to fallen flags. Would be nice to see WSOR represntation, though. Staff was gracious not to mention very generous. Surprising to me that this restaurant isn’t busier on a Friday night. We loved the model railroad set up by main entrance. Thanks for making my son’s birthday a memorable one!

Great, cheap breakfast in an interesting setting. Good service. Good food. In a cool old train depot. Check out the mural on the wall of all of the local lakes.

We are new to the area and have eaten here multiple times. Great family restaurant, friendly staff, and always good food! Kids get a cutout cookie with their meal that they can pick out themselves from the bakery case — my daughter’s favorite part.

I come here all the time! The people are very accommodating and the service is great. The best part about coming here is that day or night, you can bank on the quality of the food… It’s great every time! Greek skillet is incredible and they have real rotisserie gyros meat. The maxims special is an breakfast, it’s huge and great value! Salads are top notch and the dumpling soup is old school… Homemade dumplings, full of fresh veggies and perfectly seasoned! Great burgers too!

I really like this place for breakfast or lunch. Cute atmosphere. I really don’t like the the word«cute» to describe things but cute pretty much sums up Maxim’s. It’s not hip, ultra posh, industrial, trendy or divey. It’s just cute, right down to all the train stuff and original wood floors. They have a full bar and my martini with my luncheon salad was properly made and they didn’t judge me at noon on a Saturday. Good service and decent food. Don’t expect canary tongues on toast points and you will be just fine here.

Sooo good. A menu that looks like it could be pricey. But very reasonable. Had the strawberry bruschetta and the Washington omelette, perfect. Friendly service nice atmosphere. Walked to the farmers market across the street after we were done. I don’t know how it could have been better.

This is hands down the best breakfast in the area . The ingredients were fresh, the dishes home made, they did everything right . I had the Greek skillet; consisting of: roasted red potatoes, onions, chunks of gyro meat, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach and feta cheese . My husband had the corned beef hash and stuffed French toast. All the food was absolutely delectable. Maxims gave us a home cooked meal at a reasonable price and a family friendly atmosphere.

If you are really hungry this is the place. This is my favorite place so far in Oconomowoc. They have a big selection of plates. I’ve tried the Gyro, the Ruben, Pancakes, Fishfrie and they were all good. The waitress are very nice to the costumes. And the prices are very reasonable.

Pro: cute, kitschy place decorated all up with a train depot theme. Loved the creaky old wood floors. Pro: hardly a wait, despite being a busy Sunday morning. Friendly, bustling host staff. Con: soooo many folks in Packers or Northwoods apparel. Not the restaurants, fault, lol. But it was annoying to me, nevertheless.(This does not affect my rating of them.) Pro: friendly, efficient server. Answered our questions too. Plenty of folks came by with water and coffee refills. Pro: lots of breakfast options on their menu, they also offered a breakfast buffet that was cheap. We opted for menu selections and they came out pretty quickly. Pro: my side of bacon was perfectly crispy and my scrambled egg was tasty. My boyfriend enjoyed his eggs and his pancakes were HUGE. They were very cake-like and sweet. I don’t think it was a con, just a point of difference. Con: he lamented on the quality of the bacon. He prefers nice, thick-cut slabs. I ordered the cinnamon roll French Toast, because doesn’t that sound amazing? Disappointing. The more I are it, the more I disliked it. I don’t know if it was homemade or not, but it tasted«fake,» like store bought French Toast. It was thick Texas Toast, but tasted a little funny. The cream cheese frosting drizzled on top just didn’t go well with it either. It wasn’t sweet enough. They might have just been better off with a regular icing instead of cream cheese too. Summary: So I was going to give it 3 stars as it was a cute, decent family style restaurant but since my «cons» don’t seem all that bad, I went with 4. Great atmosphere, great service, pretty good(breakfast) «diner-esque» food.

Good food, great selection to choose from, clean and good service. The Sunday Brunch is really good, as well. Priced fairly and love the atmosphere. All in all, a good solid restaurant. My family has come here fairly often for the past seven or so years and we have always been satisfied.

First time here at Maxim’s, the location of a spot we knew as the Depot Restaurant, housed in a historic railroad depot. Mrs. and I wanted a lighter lunch, and so ordered a cup of soup and a special sandwich of the day: a Turkey Avocado BLT. Both the sandwich and the soup was outstanding. The sandwich came with a side of fruit salad and yet another cup of soup. We both had the chicken dumpling soup and it was honestly outstanding. Full of vegetables and pulled chicken breast with just the right amount of bits of dumpling. Home made goodness to the max. The sandwich was also outstanding. Real breast of turkey, packed solid with avocado, crisp bacon, thin slices of(ruby red) tomato and leaves of Romaine. It was dressed with a pesto mayonnaise and served on warm Focaccia bread. We noticed that the menu was extensive and everything looked good on the plates of other lunch crowd diners(and it was busy, due to the Harley event in Oconomowoc) who were chowing down next to us. We didn’t imbibe, but we noticed they have a full bar and a lot of bar specials; i.e., house concoctions made with call liquors that were very reasonably priced. Service was quick, professional and efficient. This place will be a definite repeat visit for us next time we’re in Oconomowoc.

My co workers took me here for lunch when I was in town. This is a cute restaurant right next to the train depot… most of the Wisconsiners call this place the train depot instead of the new name. The trains would go by it whenever it’s running its schedule. I ordered a chicken fajita wrap and the chicken dumpling soup. The soup was pretty salty. it tastes good, but salty. The wrap was really good. I finished the whole thing. One of my co workers ordered their small crispy chicken salad. It was a lunch size, and it was already a big portion! She loves it here! My other co worker ordered another wrap which he devoured. Good food. I would come back here for lunch again if I was up in this area.
